      Hey your video is negative and there’s no need for you to criticise other content makers when you just killed 75 fish in a day. No other youtubers including those who have thousand times more subscribers and success at this hobby needs to emphasise how much experience they have like you do. Maybe in your future videos drop these BS and just stick to providing the intended fish keeping information.

    We're kind of lucky in NZ. Imported fish have to go into government mandated quarantine for four weeeks so they probably get treated there before they even go to shops. But prices here are higher.

    These were my first fish, and the species I've found easiest, I still have one from my first trip to the fish shop 5 years ago! my advice is dont use tap water, a lot of chemicals and limescale in there! Hardness is much more important than ph in my opinion, I use rainwater because it's soft, and mix a very small amount of tap water to add the minerals, and I recently changed to an active substrate which keeps my PH down, because I have shrimp in the same tank, the green neons have really brightened up even more since! my tanks have always been very heavily planted. The main thing I've learned is fish don't last as long in 100% tap water! I do not lose fish since switching from tap water.

    I bought about 30 green neons last year from one of the three LFS I frequent. I have 2 from that original purchase. Devastating loss. I bought 15 more and seems promising.

    I have had them for a couple of years at an 8 ph. 15 and not a single loss. Prime time Aquatics keep them above 8 as well as Girl Talks Fish. I bet you had some columnaris taking those out or the ph was not stable since you were pushing it down.

    Hey Malik, keep your chin up, I think you’re doing great all things considered... I was shocked when I heard you got them because I saw them in a biotope aquarium online a couple weeks ago and no fish I’ve ever seen is shinier in that black water... I want them one day... but I think that if you’re getting this fish you have to prepare an aquarium for them 2 or 3 months in advance at the low ph so it can establish fully... there’s nothing “new” about the environment they come from... I’m glad that you Mande the comparison with wild caught Altum Angels and you’re right about why Altums are more robust and why problems are much easier to pick up in Altums.

      A lot of people don’t realize that the more acidic that water gets is the less likely it is that bacteria will survive in it... it’s why grasses and aquatic plants can’t decompose and you get peat moss after a long time... ultimately the tank is going to have to develop really hardy bacteria that consumes any hardy bad bacteria (also very hardy denitrifying bacteria to change ammonia to nitrites and then to nitrates.. so basically, that fish went it’s entire life without facing bad bacteria.if it were me, I’d move a cycled moving bed filter (if I had one ) in there because only the hardiest denitrifying bacteria stays due the constant tumbling... I’d also use a UV sterilizer if I had one... because this whole new world is filled with bacteria that this fish hasn’t adapted to and it’ll stress them enough that they’ll die from several opportunistic conditions ie infections, fungus, normally harmless parasites etc.... good luck man.

      @AquaMalik  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      hey Sean, you are spot on mate! I actually had the UV sterilizer on the first 24 hours and now treating with anti bacterial meds so had to turn off UV - as soon as I'm done the meds I'm turning on the UV ! they have stabilized a lot since making the video ! i haven't lost any new fish since uploading video which is a great sign and no infections in the remaining ones! will keep ya posted! fingers crossed!

      Hey Malik... just had a random thought... did you say that you started the black water tank with RO water? If so,... if you’re going to start another, maybe you can try just starting with regular declhlorinated tap water... reason being that both your plants and your fish need calcium for their cells and the RO process likely took a lot of that out... sure, it’ll take longer for the leaves to lower the ph, (and you’ll need more leaves for the level that you want) but at least some minerals will be in there... of course I could be wrong, but it’s something you can look at... still waiting on that update Bro :). Keep fishing.

      @@spyrit35 Hey Sean, great observation mate! I don't use RO currently and that's why I can even get away with the peat filter 1 If i mix RO to the peat filtered water ph crashes real fast .. can go down to even as low as 3.5 to 4ph in a few weeks with a lot of decaying vegetation and stuff! I learned that one the hard way a long time ago! good looking out mate! cheers!

    Thank you for this video. I totally agree that this are no beginners fish. They can adapt to a lot of parameters but that does not mean they are doing well. Some of mine where tiny when i got them. I also had to treat them with medicaments and needed to feed them up. Some of them accepted all kind of food but most of them exclusivly acceptet live food like Tubatrix aceti and microworm, as well as Artemia naupien. So I personally would also say they are kind of feeding specialists. Unfortanately they are sold as beginners fish but probably most of them die allready during shipping and quaranteen because of starving to death and what you can buy in the pet stores are propably the residuals of the few fishes eating all sorts of food

    I stay away from wild caught fish, the risk of disease is too high. I have green neons, doing well, but they are shy. Lost 1 out of 10. They do well on fine granular food and love dry blood \tubifix worms. Ph 6.2, gh 7, kh 3, temp about 30°C, very well planted tank. I have loads of red cherry shimp and the neons do enjoy eating their babies, great live food. I love these fish.

    • @AquaMalik

      Hi Elizabeth, glad you enjoyed the video! I think what you have are Paracheirodon innesi the common neon tetra! very similar looking but a different fish species! Green Neon Tetra (P. simulans) are not produced in captivity yet, and only a handful of people have even bred them in aquaria so far - all current green neon tetra (P. simulans) are wild caught! cheers

    Im s beginner with my absolute first tank and they were recommended to me. I was told these ones are bread in the Uk used to higher ph and all that. I got 6 Neón tetras 2 weeks ago and I just got 6 green tetras. I’ve got a 30 gallon full of plants and with fluval aqua soil and floaters. Now I’m worried

    I have no trouble keeping them, I have been trying to breed them for two years and continually fail. Amazing video! I often hear contradictory info.Do they like more or less flow, do they like warmer or cooler water? I have heard both of each, also would spawning be better in groups or pairs? I originally tried pairs and trios in a 10 gal. Now I have upped to a 33 gal long to breed , let me know any other tips please. Mine are wild from columbia they live in a 75 gal, with hyphessobrycon pyrrohontus, satanoperca jurupari the tank is all RO water , but I add brewed tea and random dried leaves from outside. Awesome info love the video!!

      What kind of antibiotics did you use. I just bought 50 of these and lost about half the first night. A few have cloudy growths on the body and fins and wanted to treat that. My pH is 6.3 and my kH is 0 my gH is 3 and my temp. Is 82F. Thanks for any recommendations.

    can you mix all different kinds of neon tetras all together? Like black neons, green, true neon, diamond head, albino, cardinal (red neon), gold and long fin neon tetras? say a school of 10 of each sub specie on a 110 gal pond or aquarium?

      Because your ph is at 6.. which is more ideal for them than 7 or higher
