Wire magnetic reed switch with relay for high current

  • An example of how to wire up a magnetic reed with to control high current loads using a relay.
    The relay used: amzn.to/3aVoENS
    The reed switch used: amzn.to/2OvDCMp
    One thing I forgot to mention in the video is to make sure the jumper is set to the L side, not the H side. The jumper should be between on the L and middle pin.

    Thanks for the video and for the note about the jumper pin. Instructions worked great! I added the relay after my reed switch melted down from a too long LED strip in an under-shelf application in my pantry. The reed switch is staying cool and so far it is operating flawlessly.

    OK no really,,,, I’ve probably watched 10 videos, And no one can seem to talk properly explain properly or even talk for that matter… They don’t show me where the powers coming from. They just show me what is powered up these videos are just dumb and stupid….. But not yours,,,, Yours is the best video on TH-cam hands-down,,, So simple and easy to explain, showing me where the power and the negative is coming from showing me the switch which I’m using a thermostat switch… And then the LED light in my case is a little tiny fan,,,,, How hard was that nobody can seem to freaking right except you… Thank you very much for your video. You did an awesome job.

    Thank god I didn't setup my project yet. I just found out that the reed switch is rated at 0.5A. And I'm going to connect it to 4A of LEDs. This video really solves my problem before the problem occurs!!

    Very well appreciated sir! Presently installing LED lights in our pantry and your video clarified the wiring extensively. There are many negative reviews on Amz as buyers state the NC NO are reversed. Well, you go with what you have. Not sure why but the relay would not trigger with the jumper in its original position but the text you added explained and once positioned properly, all is fine.
    We do have a 4 doors pantry on 2 levels. 2 switches are connected in parallel COM to COM, NO to NO for each level. They work fine independently from each other.
    Mentioned your video on Amz review so others can appreciate your excellent work. Isn't it weird that you have to jump externally?

    I will accept anyones help that will offer it. I wanted so badly for this to work for me. I'm connecting this to a 12 volt truck battery. I ordered the relay thats recommended in the post. It came with 2 in the package. i installed one exactly as described and it worked perfectly . The switch was cool but after about 5 minutes the relay became very hot.I thought the relay was defective so i switch it out with the other one. Same issue. Then a ran across a post that said make sure you order the 12v version.I looked at my relays and discovered they were the 5v version. So that explained why the relay was getting so hot. I installed the new 12v version exactly as this video instructed and the identical way the other 2 were wired. Did not work. Thinking the new 12v relay was defective i ordered another. Installed it correctly and it doesn't work either. I'm at a lost as to why the two 5 v versions work and neither of the 12 v versions worked. This is wired to a 12v battery.
    Does anybody out there have a explanation as to why and offer another alternative? I know this is long winded but damn i ned some help. Thanks for your patience and suggestions.

    This video was exactly what I was looking for. I'm using the HiLetgo 24V. I found that when Low/High jumper was set to Low then DC- was supposed to trigger and it wouldn't reliably (the red LED would just flicker and not lock). I simply changed the jumper to High and used DC+ and IN then the relay would trigger reliably. I found 2ma of current to the ReedSw which is fine. Thank you again for a superb video.

    • @mattadata2
      @mattadata2  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Can you share a link of the LED strip you are referring to? If it has two positives and one negative, then you should be able to run the 2nd positive to the DC+ screw terminal on the relay board. Its the one in the top right of this video.

      @@mattadata2 Hi thank you so much for replying.
      This is the LED strip: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07CNB8XL8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
      It has various positives for different functions. What I'm trying to achieve is 2 positives active with the door closed, and only 1 when its opened.
      The two positives activate red or yellow coloured leds, with the yellow colour overriding the red (so if red and yellow are connected, only yellow shows)
      I wired up everything as your video but the problem is with the ground of the led strip attached to "com" on the relay, it only activates at all when the door is closed.

    Hey, I`d like some advice if you`d wanna give it.. If i`m planning on using two reed contacts of the same 60w power supply, as in I want to be able to open the lights(LED strips) individually on each side of my sliding door wardrobe, should i opt for two separate relays, one for each line or can i go with a 2 channel relay?.. The power needs for each side is about, idk, 10-20Watts.. Also , a fixed low lvl trigger would work just as well, wouldnt it?

    • @mattadata2
      @mattadata2  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi. So this relay can switch AC current from a standard wall outlet ON or OFF to your lamp. But you will still need 5V DC to control the relay. (Be careful when messing with AC!)

    • @munecito
      @munecito 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Connect busbars to the relay and then connect the reed switches to the busbar. That would mean that all the reed switches run on the same circuit through the relay and any one of them closing would activate the alarm.
