In this video, we look at how gases are exchanged in the lungs. We start by looking at the overall structure of the lungs and then explore how the alveoli are adapted for maximum diffusion of gases in and out of the bloodstream.

@@stephaniefarid2219 i did the paper they sat for my mocks, it went great i got 68/100 on the seperate higher paper 1, it was pretty good a lot of monoclonal antibodies questions and HIV, not much about the lungs or heart on there so i was happy lol

Why do we spend like 5 years learning all of this when it could be be completed in 2 months if you watched 1 video of each science subtopic in 1 day,
1 day= 1 bio, 1 chem and 1 phys
there are around 110 topics for each science
3 videos x 60 days= triple science spec completed

No the oesophagus carries food from the mouth to the stomach. The trachea carries air from the mouth to the lungs. They are two different tubes. I'm only showing the trachea because this video is about the lungs.

what does concentration gradient mean?
The difference in concentration between two regions. A high gradient means a big difference in concentration.
if a high conc on side of the membrane and a low conc on the other side, thats a higher gradient

This might be a silly question but how does the blood get next to the alveoli ? Can blood get into lungs?
blood travels through capillaries which are right next to the alveoli. They are also one cell thick making the diffusion distance short.
