Played this for my university audition, and the adjudicators absolutely loved the piece. They hadn't heard it before, and normally, they would want me to just play a section of the piece and then ask me to stop, but they didn't ask me to stop, and they then told me its because it was such an interesting piece, they wanted to see where it would go, and they were pleased.
In other words, try using this at your auditions, it might wow them!

I played this for my degree recital and I have to say that this was one of my most favorite pieces to perform! For those who are wondering and have not purchased the music yet, the highest note is technically the second C above the staff, however there is an ossia (written as "play if able!" lol) which goes to the second D above the staff, which is how it is performed in this recording. It is very possible! Do not let the music intimidate you. With some practice, the runs (even the ones in the ossia, 21 in a beat!) will come as second nature. Enjoy playing!

Having passed my grade 8 a few years ago, I can say the recent Ian Clarke pieces are probably too difficult for this grade (Hypnosis and The Mad Hatter), amazing as they sound. I do love this piece I'm doing a recital with it in a few months. To anyone who wants to play this, play Sunstreams first - much easier to master and on the easier end of grade 8.

My teacher gave this piece to me and it's soo beautiful but at the same time so frustrating that, even if I could play it without making mistakes (which I still can't since I still need to practice), I won't be able to play it as beautifully as this flute :'D

My god, this piece is just beautiful! Funny how this piece is Grade 8 for other syllabi and it's Grade 9 for the Royal Conservatory Syllabus. Oh well, different strokes I guess. Either way, still such a beautiful piece!

@MarbleArts2011 Yeah, the high bit still isn't accurate enough, but it'll come. And yeah, I'm trying to play the optional harder parts. I'm almost able to play them, but again, they just aren't fully there yet :) You?

+Lucy Trendell-Carr if you have an open holed flute you slide your finger off the hole while still holding they key down.

Make sure to breathe!!! Put your heart and soul into it and it'll be an amazing performance! Did it for my grade 8 and I got a distinction because I chose the harder parts! Good luck in your exam!!
