I’m always fascinated how a persons soul/ personality (call it the way you like) shines through the way they play and write music. This is beyond beautiful. So much grace, passion and love. I’m never tired of hearing Ian’s music and the way he plays it.
The person who played this recording not only performed but he’s also the composer of the piece: Ian Clarke teaches flute at the Guildhall School of Music
I love his music and I am lucky enough to be able to play one of his others hypnosis for my grade 8 next term. I am also learning this one for a concert solo performance soon
Is your right hand not used to all the constant movement that the flute demands? I'd think that it's almost impossible to tire out a right hand in a 6-minute piece personally. Haven't played it yet though so maybe I'm wrong.
Have you checked out finger and thumbports? Also make sure you're not leaning the flute towards you to much...if anything it's better to roll it forward some and this will also benefit tour sound because it gives you more embouchure hole to blow into on your headjoint...try it and let me know if this works.
You are probably just too tense - practise slowly and in sections, especially the middle part! Take a break before playing more if it gets quite painful though...
@Ifaxolotlscouldfly Its in the Flute Diploma Silebus, on the justflutes website its ranked level 8 hardness out of 9, this ranking kind of correlates to ABRSM grades but I have the music and im doing my grade 8 and i feel its alot more harder then grade 8.
No. The thing says this is grade 5. I can’t even. It took ages to get hypnosis and I still dunno if I’m doing it right, and it’s only a grade 4. It’s a sad thing.
Today, for the first time in my life, I heard a piece by Ian Clarke (Hypnosis) and I'm already enchanted by his wonderful music...
I can't decide whether the flute or piano part is more captivating.
I think the spectator's part is more captivating.
This piece is one of my favourite off all time. How can be something this beautiful?!

Love this piece! I'm fascinated with Ian Clarke and I got to play Maya with my sister for her recital 😃
I saw Ian Clarke and Ian Anderson play together back in May 2009 at the Barbican Centre. Two greats in one place :-)
All music of this author is vert deep and touching, I like it very much.

How did hypnosis go?
Sub-Zero SeanOTRS I would like to know too, I am working on Hypnosis now for a contest(:
Maddie G I played it at my school recital, it went down really well, everyone loves the piece to he honest! Hope your competition went well!
No comments yet? Ok, simply put, this is brilliant!
Beautiful and uplifting, Soli Deo Gloria.
Ian, il a tout compris . !!! des pièces superbement écrites , toutes aussi passionnantes à étudier qu'à écouter ... bravo Ian. j'achète ....
J’ai redécouvert « touched by the ether », j’ai l’impression qu’elle sera aussi technique que great train race
Qu'est-ce que tu achetes?
I'm literally going to cry rn.
It is listed in the AMEB syllabus for Certificate of Performance, in between 8th grade and AMusA.
Absolutely beautiful!
My ex played this on his flute, made me fall for classical music.
5-difficult! Harder than it sounds. But really worth learning if you like it.
Something incredible 😍
I wish my accompanist play it this well, but that piano solo is effing hard! :P
Very nice 😊!!!Jan Clarke is genius!!!💖
He was my flute teacher for 9 years. This piece is especially haunting and is a testament to how gifted he is as a composer.
@@amandajack5547 -it's the greatest present in your life!!!💖

오늘 실연으로 들었는데 넘 신비로운 느낌!
I love this piece! But it's so heavy on the right hand... I always have pain in my right hand when I play it :/

Valerie Lalonde I get pain in my left hand
it could be your position of the right hand. I had Super terrible pain. thought I had carpal tunnel but it was just my position of my hands.

@Ifaxolotlscouldfly It's a grade 5 solo, which is about graduate school level (extremely difficult).
what on earth are you talking about it is easily much harder than grade 8!
Forgive my ignorance, but how do you find the grade of a piece? I would really love to know
Katherine Woolums the standard of the piece, to work this out you would most likely need to compare it to other grade 8 pieces.
Its AEB Grade 8

Does some of the piano stuff remind you a bit of the style George Winston plays in?
Ok, wow.
Sublissime !!!!!!
What kind of flute do you play on if u don't mind me asking
wow
what level is this piece?
Grade 8
It is around the difficulty of 4-5. :)
*raises eyebrow very high*
I'm considering doing this for DipABRSM, are you sure?
level 5 on fluteworld
Its grade 8
Is there a running joke that this piece is grade 5? It is grade 8, if you estimate conservatively!
Sub-Zero SeanOTRS it’s above grade 8 - it has so many extended techniques that are beyond the grade system

i'd like to hear their logic and see a non-prodigy 5th grader play this as well as it sounds here in the recording
@@laineemaupin Hypnosis is a grade 8 not 4???? I'm doing it for my Grade 8 exam next month
@@laineemaupin what do you mean hypnosis is a grade 4? It's a grade 8 where I'm from
I'm the only one who came here because of homework (я единственная, кто пришёл сюда из-за домашней работы)
I had to study Ian Clarke 😭
Performers Certificate for AMEB
