This is a video of us rebuilding a Cummins Marine Diesel, 5.9 liter for use in our sport fishing boat in Costa Rica. We do this every year and I really wish I had a video like this the first time I did it, so maybe this will help someone. The motor is in the boat now and has logged over 1200 hours after this rebuild.

Wow, 9000 views. Didn't see that coming, glad this helped. Well, the motor made 5000 hours, and now it's coming back out to do it again!

"You gotta stick it in, until it clicks...or...until there...that looks good." HaHa The best line of the entire video! Awesome job, thanks for sharing it!

Yes they can, but before you put in the sleeves, you would want to over bore it. You can go .03 and .06 inches over before you put in the sleeves. You can get the larger pistons from cummins. Mine has been rebuilt 5 times now, so I can't bore it out anymore and that's why I use sleeves. The machine shop that does mine has sleeves they use.

What is a KDP? Probably did forget something, I just make it up as I go along!!! We're at 1500 hours since the build, I blew a hose and overheated and had to change the head gasket, but no other problems so far. If anybody is reading this and doing a marine engine, i didn't show in the video but you need to buy the "Major Overhaul Kit" for the saltwater pump as well. That one is the one with all the axles and seals. Don't forget to let me know what a KDP is!!!!!!

You do this every year! How many hours are you putting on this engine annually? Great video, I love Costa Rica!

We put on about 3000 hours a year, so I figure why not. It makes sure that when I'm booked and full of trips I don't have to stop and do a rebuild.
Yeah, it might have lost 40hp, but it can cut the grass now! :)

Impossible. I just bring them in from Houston. There is very little here, and everything here is 5 times more expensive.

John Deere Green? Oh man, think you just took away 40hp.
