    I remember when Lucy died, I was working at UCLA and we had to pass Cedars on our way to UCLA,, where she hospitalized. The day she died they had plastered a banner on the windows at Cedars that said, We love you Lucy. When we were at work we found out she had passed away and we all cried. Lucy was an icon. ❤️

    This is one of the saddest things that I read about years ago. Lucy and Desi still loved each other very much when they divorced, and that love never died. They couldn't live with each other, but they couldn't live without each other, either. Every year after they divorced and until his death, Desi would send Lucy red and white carnations (her favorite flowers) on November 30, their wedding anniversary. The last phone call that Desi took on his deathbed was from Lucy. Lucie had to hold the phone to her daddy's ear because he was so sick and weak from lung cancer. Lucy broke down and said over and over, "Oh, Desi, I love you! I love you, Desi!" . He said, "I love you, too, honey. Good luck on your show." Those were his last words - he died 48 hours later. When Lucie wrote about their last call, she realized that the last time they spoke was November 30th - their wedding anniversary. Now read that and don't cry.

      Lucille said that Desi was an incredibly smart and talented man, yet there was something inside of him that said he didn’t deserve any of the success he built for himself and so he destroyed things in his life, such as his marriage by having affairs and drinking heavily during their marriage. It’s sad, yet there are people like that. They’re so successful, built something from the ground up, perhaps has a great family and yet something tells them they don’t deserve any of it and so they then wreck a good thing they have going.

      Desi was a cheater. Cheating doesn't belong in a marriage. What's the point of having a committed relationship if you're going to mess around and act like your single? Don't get married if you like having different partners every few years or so.

    She may have loved Desi but the love lost its passion slowly from the way he ripped her heart apart from the cheating that was flaunted in her face, the heavy drinking, the destructive behavior. Lucy never called Desi a bum. She constantly praised his hard work and talent for business and as an actor. She used the word "loser" in an interview with Barbara Walters, but if you listen to her full statement, she didn't mean it the way you're suggested. She was sometimes inarticulate and would use the wrong word. What she meant in that interview is that Desi was self-destructive. Go back and listen again. In an interview with Johnny Carson she was talking about her daughter's sense of humor and said it was "kinky." Again, wrong word choice for what she meant which was "witty."

    Gary Morton was NOT a writer for The Lucy Show. And Desi was not a director and producer of that show "for several years." He left in the middle of the first season. And what job are you saying that Lucy gave Gary at Desilu that required him to work with Desi? Lucy slowly eased Gary into the business. Desi retired from Desilu in 1962, a year after Lucy married Gary. Gary did not get involved in Desilu until later on, and that was only to advise Lucy. Desi Arnaz remained the Executive Producer for most of the run of the first season of The Lucy Show. Funny enough, It was actually Desi that asked for the divorce and he told Lucy that she can file it under her name. He knew that he was hurting Lucy and that their marriage had turned toxic for all parties involved (including their children). Desi loved Lucy and knew that they would come out stronger and happier as people and as a family. He wanted their marriage to last but knew at this point there was no return. Lucy was, understandably, outraged when he proposed this. But she later understood that he was right and it would be better for everyone. I think this is a big reason why they stayed so close and involved with one another until the end. Their relationship and marriage were built on love, and in the end, their divorce was from love. So naturally, their later friendship was built on these foundations of love. They really were each other's, true love. I am not a religious person but would like to think that they are reunited, and happy, together again in the afterworld.

    Of course! Everyone knows they both remarried and loved each other forever. Lucy, however, really only liked Gary and he knew it. Gary was a good husband by giving Lucy a pink bathroom. Desi loved his new wife and his daughter with Lucy Ball, , Lucie Arnaz, thought Desi "got lucky" when he got married again. Lucille Ball knew Desi's new wife from a long time ago. And, Gary did get married again, too, after Lucy died. Gary also played golf a lot while his career seemed to deflate to what it was before Lucy. Gary went on still with his bad toupé and all. Money and fame can't fix hair. You know, I always hoped they all saw Lucie Arnaz win those awards she got for her many talents. Lucid Arnaz seems like a nice lady.

    I actually read that it was Desi's idea, in 1960 and he wanted a divorce, telling Lucy that they will say it is Lucy's wish.
    And it was her request that Desi would direct the first show she did, after I Love Lucy.
    I also read that after Lucy's death, Gary said she was happy now because she's with Desi, which just goes to show you, Gary knew what he was getting himself into.
    Cleo said in an interview in 2001 that DeDe had told her what Desi's dad had told him, and it was that if he were to go with a woman, he should make sure she was married so she wouldn't make any trouble because of that. Unfortunately Desi cheated Lucy and drank a lot, he felt overshadowed by her and even made jokes about her when she won the Emmy's. I wish they could have talked it over because they truly loved each other till the day they both died.

    Of course Lucy didn't love Gary. She was in love with Desi. She was with Gary just because she didn't want to be alone. He was not a nice man either. He not only was a gold digger, he cheated on her, he controlled her, he didn't want her friends to see her and he was nasty to so many people. He put himself in control of every aspect of Lucy's life. He even forced her to do her final series, even though she didn't want to go back to work. Lucy did not want to do another series. The only nice thing Gary said was after she died was, she's happy now because she's with Desi. Instead of divorcing Desi, they should have just separated for awhile, then got back together. With the failure of her last series and the death of Desi, she was extremely sad and no longer wanted to live, causing her to go into a rapid decline, and eventually suffering a stroke in 1988. In her final days, she would sit at home and watch home movies and episodes of I Love Lucy and just cry because she missed Desi so much. Though she died from an an abdominal aortic dissection, she really died from a broken heart.

Did he not watch TV or read the newspapers? Lucy was in the news all the time, not just on Monday's, when her show aired. And, yes, she was clinically depressed at the end of her life. When "Life with Lucy", she thought that her fans did not love her anymore. Nothing could have been further from the truth, and thank goodness she lived long enough to see the unbelievable outpouring of love and adoration that the public still held in their hearts for her when she was in the hospital, shortly before she passed away.

But here, the fact that they did continue to work together for a time and remained friendly for their children (and their business) I believe was unique for that time period. I could go on and on for days about Lucille Ball and Desi. The new film is out now on Amazon Prime if you haven't seen it, "Being The Ricardos." I felt all did a brilliant job including Aaron Sorkin who really can do no wrong. I did not, however, care for the story structure. It felt odd. It's an entertaining film and worth watching. To the younger generations, I just felt this was a great opportunity to really showcase the Lucy and Desi story and their countless contributions to the television business - finally in a big Hollywood motion picture. This wasn't that motion picture.

    Lucy spoke to Desi, 3 times a week, after they ended their paetnership at desilu. He was the business mogul. She knew zip. Surely when Lucy sold and cheaply Desilu, Desi a great nehociator, must've had a heart attack that his brainchild was sold for nothing by Lucy, probably by Gary's advice or approval. It did not cost them their sweat, tears, nights, marriage like it did to Desi.

    • @LJ-ht4zs
      @LJ-ht4zs ปีที่แล้ว

      When Lucy bought Desi out, Desilu was losing money (He was making bad decisions, perhaps due to his alcoholism - he wanted out and basically the shareholders wanted him out too) When Lucy was in charge the company started gaining - then when it was doing well she sold to Paramount. They spoke together a few times a month - a lot about the children, and sometimes about some business issues. Lucy always respected his opinion. So saying Lucy knew zip was not at all correct - from losing money, under her, I believe she sold it for 17 million (10m - after taxes).

    While I don't approve of Desi's behavior, he was no different than most celebrities. The ones who are faithful and able to make a real commitment to someone are the exceptions to the rule. Katharine Hepburn once said people in show business should never get married, let alone have children, as they're too self-centered to put anyone else before themselves. Why else would they want to be famous, their name up in lights? She included herself, and said the smartest thing she and Spencer Tracy did was not get married, and she never wanted children. Unfortunately, not enough think that way and figure they can get married multiple times, cheat on whoever they're with, have kids whenever they feel like it (because nannies and other servants, not to mention boarding schools relieve them of responsibility) and drink, do drugs and even break the law and society will except it all because they're rich and famous. And they're right, there's a double standard that gives the okay to whatever they do, while the average person would never get away with half that nonsense. Talk about hypocrisy!

Seems to mentally omit how much her father's drinking and sexual addictions certainly was not good for any woman. Ms. Ball and Ms. Arnaz’s marriage was VERY passionate, intense, loving, hot, cold, etc. i doubt if Mr. Morton brought that out of Ms. Ball after being with Mr. Arnaz for 20 years. Sometimes stability wins over passion cuz passion can wear off real fast then u left with yourselves then what? Ms. Ball was not perfect either. She had a brief affair with Henry Fonda during the filming of “Yours, Mine, and Ours” while bein married to Gary.

    There are a actors who loved their spouses, but couldn't live with them due to various factors. I was watching a Tony Curtis interview where he mentioned his "wife", not ex-wife. referring to Janet Leigh. Liz Taylor and Richard Burton really loved one another but were too volatile together. I think Lucy and Desi loved one another.

    • @LJ-ht4zs
      @LJ-ht4zs ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Richard Burton was a serious alcoholic and died from it in his 50's. Liz Taylor certainly loved herself - broke up Burton's marriage to his wife; they divorced and remarried; Taylor supposedly really loved Michael Todd; and Taylor stole her best friend Debbie Reynold's husband - Eddie Fisher etc etc. She was married 7 times. The two of them had really big problems - and really loved themselves - not sure about being happy and really loving each other. They created a strong romantic fantasy - but it felt like a movie they were making.

    Totally off topic, but I've always wondered why men and women stopped wearing hats. Does anyone out there have the 411 in regard to this? Thanks in advance.

      Apparently President Kennedy had a big impact since he went hatless. He simply would not wear hats. He was given a Stetson the day he came to Dallas, and he waved it for photographers, but he wouldn't put it on. Jackie Kennedy used to wear those little pillbox hats so I don't know why women gave up hats.

    In the Latin world it’s common to see married men have ‘mistresses.’ Lucy loved Desi but had enough. Gary seemed like the perfect no. 2; gracious, caring, funny, loyal, (and a great golfer).😊Entering her 50’s, Lucy wanted a stable home for her kids, not a passionate love affair.🤗
