Sub Kaiba is an inconsistent mess and part of why I say the sub anime is the WORST rendition of the series Manga > Dub > Sub. Sure you could argue the dub went overboard with changes, but so did the original (and that's before you consider the filler,) at least the Dub was consistent about stuff like Kaiba and making the series more family friendly (seriously, the scenes with Pegasus getting and losing the Millennium Eye were just terrible between the terrible rendering of blood and the fact that they toned down the gruesomeness of it all but still made it kind of gruesome because reasons?) they just had no idea what they were doing with the anime Side note: I don't in any way hate the anime, I'm just so sick of this garbage about the dub sucking, especially when the trash reasoning is something like "because they changed this" when the reality is that the sub screwed up in that regards in the first place, can't even argue one is closer than the other because they're both pretty far off.

Thematically Kaiba is associated with Power and technology, Yugi is Perseverance and magic, and Joey is Passion and taking risks.
I always love those moments when the gamble cards activate and both players have this mutual understanding when they’re seeing who wins. Seeing Joey and Marik be silent and fully focused on the dice 🎲 showing just how neither of them can do nothing but wait in hope of Lady Luck.
Gilford The Lightning and Jinzo stole the show in Joey's duel against Marik. They where his two best cards in battle city and he never stopped using them either.
Malik is pretty much toying with Joey during their whole duel just like he did with Mai and that at least until Joey summon Gilford The Lightning and from that moment, Malik realize that needs to re-evaluated his strategy.
I don’t agree, the same May, in any strategy, Marika did nothing but humiliate him. If she had not called on God Ra, but had simply finished off Marik with Harpies, she would have won and still taken the God card. It's the same with Joey, in this duel he made a lot of strange mistakes, for example, in the beginning, when Marik summoned Gil Guard, Joey had the Alligator Sword and Angel Bones, he could have summoned it in an attack position and the magic card face down, because of which, during Marik's attack vase, Joey would activate a card, due to which he would increase the attack of his monster and so he would be in a winning position

And Not So Evil Marik actually teach Joey how to use the God Card, which involves an all nighter with Marik and Ishizu giving Joey a crash course in Ancient Egyptian language.
I wish we could've seen Joey win Gilford from someone. I believe his duels with Weevil and Mako were necessary for his growth, and neither of them would have Gilford. And Jinzo is a staple, so Espa can't give it to him. Perhaps if there were Rare Hunters stalking Yugi and Joey noticed them and tackled one of them (thus saving Yugi), then Joey duels the Rare Hunter to not only redeem himself from losing to the Exodia Hunter, but to show Yugi he's serious about his promise to help him take down Marik. Yugi is hesitant to let Joey get involved, but he decides to let him duel the Rare Hunter. Joey duels and wins Gilford the Lightning.

Time Wizard is repeatedly said to be the rarest card he has, and the only point at which he gets new cards is when Marik possesses him and adds a bunch of new cards to his deck So it's never explicitly mentioned but he most likely got the card from Marik

Time wizard was Joeys rarest card at the start of battle city, and he had no duels in which he won gilford, although it’s a nice boss for Joey it’s an asspull to have Joey have this in the duel.
Marik toyed with Joey's deck when he had him mind controlled. It's not impossible or unlikely that this was a card left over from there. They were supplied by rare hunters after all.
Konami should release a support deck for Gilford or at least make it a Red-Eyes Synchro or something. It just my opinion, i just love Gilford and its a cool monster

it wouldn't matter if he attacked because plasma eel cant be destroyed by battle and was in defense position. plus by using 3 tributes for gilford the special effect activates where all enemy monsters on the field are destroyed, so the 3000 attack doesnt matter either.

Yes you can summon gilford with 2 cards. But if you sacrifice 3 monsters, you activate Gilford's ability: "If this card is summoned using 3 sacrifices, destroy ALL monsters your opponent controls"

It was still relevant in the quarterfinals. The referee told Yugi he could take one of Bakura's cards and Yugi declined. In the manga, anyway.

ラヴァゴーレムを召喚してたらギルフォードは倒せてたし、城之内のフィールドはガラ空きで手札も0だし圧倒的に城之内不利。
他にラヴァゴーレム以外にもバイザーデスとかもいたし幾らでも手はあった。
舐めプせんで遊戯戦みたいに最初から全力で行けばこんなに追い詰められる事はなかっただろうけどね。
