One of my favourite contemporary philosophers although I don't always agree with him. In fact do I ever agree with him? Only in the basics I suspect. But he is a cultured and cultivated man. And a man of great integrity. And a subtle and profound thinker. I wish there were more like him.
This man's labors to communicate his ideas reminds me of the passage from Sacred Scripture: "If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?"

Scruton is great but I find it odd that he wants to tell us that music is movement and really does "move" but memes are just part of the infrastructure of repudiation.
4:40 "The old inherited Christian tradition was very much part of my upbringing..." --- And, what, you never grew up, never put away childish things and bronze age fairy tales? You stayed in your childhood till you're a gas bag odious old creep? How sad. D.A., J.D., NYC (NOT a Scruton fan)
David Anderson your arrogance shows your philosophy at work. Instead of listening to his point, and disregarding what you disagreed with like a reasonable person, you decided to deride a dead man for a good ole, self-righteous pat on the back. Well done.
If it's good music it's good music. I don't care what kind of music it is I'm partial to hard rock/ heavy metal and have been all my life but if it's hard rock / heavy metal music with a symphony backing it Awesome because I'm 49 years old now. But I like outlaw country music and symphony music. Music is the only sane thing on earth in my opinion.
Give me some bottles of Brandy and some 12 packs of beer and a carton of smokes and I can study this kind of stuff all week. And Love it but I'm not a big fan of people. I like my solitude but a women would be nice once in a while I guess just for Snuggle and spooning reasons.. I've renounced my Christianity
I love to listen to this formidable philosopher
What a brilliant man. A loss to the world for sure. One of those rare breeds of men who are highly educated but humble.
"My generation grew to immaturity in the 60's..." Scruton is brilliant, and edifies with every word.

I love this man ,I keep telling everyone about him.
