- In what could be a massive blow to Ukraine, the expected delivery of f-16 fighter jets may come too late. Newsweek reveals significant setback for Kyiv amid Russia's offensive in Kharkiv. Ukrainian pilots have recently been finishing up training on the U.S-made jets, For most of the more than two-year war, these pilots have flown Soviet-era MIG aircraft.

Absolutely true. F16s a single engine aircraft are no longer that magical game-changer combat aircraft. It's overage in the era of twin engines SUs-35s & 57s. F16s are likened to Marshall Goering's Stuka Dive Bombers and Japanese Zeroes of World War II. These are like disposable diapers that are overused and over-fatigue flying contraption. Russians blow this flying coffins mid-air as soon as detected inside Ukraine. F16s could not land on rough terrain, but airbases that no longer exists blown up by Russians. They either stage from Poland, Estonia or NATO member states nearby Ukraine.

@@arnavsharma9092 Russia has only faced like 30 HIMARS the entire war. In took like 800 days for Russia to even destroy 1. The Ukrainians only had short range missiles for them. Russia had to move everything important out of range of them since they cannot stop them and they decimated everything they were fired at. Just be thankful the US didn't send 1500 HIMARS with long range atacms since they are over 40 years old and the US is about to retire them and have well over 1000 of them gathering dust in a warehouse. 40 years old but still better than anything Russia has. Now that Ukraine ran out of weapons and ammo 6 months ago Russia is finally advancing. Their 1 football field a day charge is costing Russia over 900 killed in action per day. If Ukraine had 5% of the equipment Russia had they would have beaten Russia in months since Russia sucks bad at war. But they can gain football fields over a country 1 20th their size once the other country has no weapons or ammo.

I think you are correct. But there is a secondary problem. The planes were not designed for 50 years. Structural components fail. It is hard to pilot a F-16 if a wing falls off.

Because F-16 is "western made", so it is assumed that it would drastically change the dynamic of the war. They also had high hope for the "western tanks". Leopard tanks, Challenger tanks, and later on, the much talked about the "jet engine driven" Abrams tanks. The state of the game wasn't changed with the deployment of these "game changers". I fact, the opposite is true. Russia is now taking even more territory.
So how is the F-16 going to be so different to those "game changers" before it? It might prolong the war somewhat, but not it is not going make Zelensky happy. Why? Because war ultimately needs to be fought on land, and Zelensky simply doesn't have the manpower.
Biden wants a victory for himself to boast his presidential bid. Judging by what we are seeing, it is another Afghanistan for him.
If that's the case, I would say: that's pretty sad!!!!!!

These f-16 fighter jets are another much hyped,much priced propoganda whereas the reality is these can't even stand against 1960 made Soviet era MIG-21. In 2019 in a dog fight between India and Pakistan , Indian MIG 21 has effectively shot down and American made Pakistani F-16 . Propoganda can not hide the ground realities.

Can you precisely describe flight envelope of F-16 and upgraded avionics for electronics engagement ?
Understand the logistics of defending against such power. Ukraine troops are exhausted. They can hardly lift an artillery shell anymore. They need relief from reserves but that is not happening. The human part of this calculation is critical but western powers seem to pretend its not important. Food, ammo, water, and medical supplies need to be delivered. Troops need to sleep. If FAB 500 bombs are landing all night long its hard to sleep. Sleep deprivation will turn anyone into a zombie.
They are either dead ore worn out.
Obviously one MiG in the air is worth the ten promised F16.

They will be lucky to get 10 F16s operational at one time. They never it did it with their own jets. It will be hit and run tactics until the Russians discover their airbases. Ukraine has shown they can never protect their airbases and have to hide planes one by one in camouflaged spots.

You have offshore bank accounts stuffed to gunwals with borrowed USD for our grandchildren to pay off.
These are old F16s and if you look at the specs it's actually worse than their old 29s which have all been blown up. They carry old radars and short range air to air missiles. Another point is Russia has complete air defence coverage of Ukraine now with radars which out match the F16s. This means they will be spotted and shot down before they even know they've been targeted. These will need to be piloted by Nato pilots as they don't have enough trained pilots to fly them. The training has gone badly, I think they only have 6 pilots fully trained up on them and that's only basic training. Nobody seems to understand that they'll need to take off from somewhere. This somewhere will be levelled in less than a week. With these being nuclear capable there's a good chance Russia will target them even in another country if that's where they take off from.
Old F16s, fitted with old APG-66(V)2A radars and old AIM-120s, perfectly capable to down SU-25s in 100miles range. Like a flying Patriot.
@@dilten69 su35s have a radar range of over 200, that makes a big difference, especially taking into account the air to air missiles have over double the range. This is going to be a suicide mission for any poor pilot that lands for the job of sitting in it 🙄. When Russian troops move forward they take air defences forward with them as cover. An S300 and an S400 will soon spot a 1980s F16, not sure what they are supposed to be for. It's also important to note they need a completely smooth and spotless runway as they're high maintenance and have a habit of picking up debris into the air intakes. Old mig 29s were built to function on poor quality runways and roads to allow them to land on makeshift runways. The F16s don't have the landing gear or intakes to make this possible. They're going to need highly maintained runways and a team of well equipped engineers as these are old planes with known high maintenance even when new.

Russia will target the airfield they take off from. They might even target the rest of the country, particularly if it is Poland.

The targeting, surveillance, weapons & planning is headed and supplied by NATO! Even the so-called 'Foreign Legion' operating in Ukraine is basically NATO troops out of uniform so that when Ukraine is finally defeated, they can comfortably say that NATO didn't lose the war.
I seriously doubt that NATO pilots will agree to fly them, it is a certain one way voyage. Why would anybody commit suicide for evil people like Zelensky or Biden.

Why is there such a fuss over this jet? ITS radar is not as good as any of the new Russian MIGS IT has shorter range missles. It's also not stealth. You put these jets up against the Mig 34/35 or the SU-57 or the the s400 system you are going to see a lot shot down. Also where are they going to be based? Most of the airfields are already damaged. You could try basing them in Poland or Russia and attack from there, but would this not be perceived as a direct attack on Russia by NATO? Russia would probably attack the bases. Not sure if NATO is willing to risk that

F16s are 50 year old airframes. They have their reputation. It has been built up over that time. The risk is that they surprise to the upside which would be a big embarrassment for the Russians. Another one. If you want to talk about potential embarrassment, where is Russia's SU-57? It should have cleared the Ukrainian airforce out of the skies two years ago. Probably still trying to sell it to India based on hype and not its actual combat effectiveness. Also, where is the Armata tank? Same story.

How often do you hear about Ukrainian aircraft flying anywhere the front lines? Several times a day, daily, a couple of times a week, every few weeks? Ukrainian pilots reused to fly missions to bomb the formerly defenseless cities of Donetsk and Luhansk once the rebels got manpads. Do you actually think that they're going to be keen on operating within the range of S-300's and S-400's now, let alone S-500's next year?

@@mikejones6065 , The Ukr air forces do not come to the front line close than to 100 km. Nothing to stop right now, because most of it has been destroyed already, especially fighters and attack aircrafts. They have some bombers yet to take off and to launch long range cruise missiles. That's it.
@@maksimluzin1121 they are very upgraded. They are all MLU standard, not the latest block standard but as of mid 2000’s fully capable of carrying all western weapons and most importantly able to fully utilize their targeting compared to the iPad approach sed on their decrepit Soviet jets.
That is not true. It takes a minimum of 2 years of training to be proficient with a new aircraft. Although the F-16 is obsolete, it is new to those Ukrainian pilots. By contrast, a Russian pilot going from an SU-35 to a SU-57 already knows most of what he needs and 6 months of training is enough to make that transition. Ukrainian pilots will not be ready until 2025 or 2026.

@@RDeckardN6 That is not true. Both SU-35's and SU-57's regularly fly over Ukraine including most of what is east of the river and along the Belarus border. But why should they take unnecessary risks with a SU-34 carrying heavy bombs? They don't need to get very close to the occasional MIG-29 or SU-25 or SU-27 that Ukraine sends up in order to shoot it down. And they won't need to take unnecessary risks to shoot down the F-16's either. To date no SU-35's or SU-57's have been shot down and the number of SU-34's lost you could count on 1 hand even if you worked in a meat cutting factory. Or are you one of the dufus's that actually believe Ukrainian propaganda?

People focusing entirely on the aircraft show how little they know about air warfare - the aircrafts capabilities and performances are important factors in the hands of a well trained pilot. The pilots capabilities and understanding of the systems available to him is what really matters (should anyobe doubt this I refer to von Rosen in Biafra).
All the time during the Cold War it was clear that the Warsaw pacht airforces received less than half the annual flying time as that of NATO air forces. I don't know if that has changed to day but if it has not I'd bet on the NATO trained pilots any day

The F16 needs good runways and maintenance facilities and Russia has been busy destroying them. So they would have to fly from Poland or Romania but Russia has said if they do then Russia will consider them to be cobelligerents and hit their bases and other facilities and they could not call for support from NATO under Article 5 since they would be involve in a war they started. So the supply is likely being held back by pressure from NATO. In any case they will not survive the Russian Dome radar and missile system or the MIG-31 and its hypersonic missiles which will hit them from within Russia as they have done with all the hundreds of MIGs and SUs they have downed. The plane Ukraine needed was the A-10 Warthog to replace the Eu-25 ground attack aircraft they have lost.
I think that most F16 aircraft once spotted on the ground will never see air time. If you dont think that the Russians are waiting and looking for them to show up, you are nuts. So I agree with the above comments.

F16's will not be flying from that base. They may arrive there but will not be based there. They will be dispersed and operate from highways and roads that can handle jets. If you all don't understand how that works take an look at the Swedish way of operating their Airforce from dispersed bases during time of war.
