    Hey here's the routine I recommend following. It's short and simple, mainly focused on balancing your handstand and developing shoulder and wrist strength, Have fun with it!
    Routine:
    Wrist Warmup: Finger Pushups & Wrist Rocks x 10 each
    Frog Stand: x10-30 sec hold
    x2-3 sets
    Heel Pulls x5-10 pulls (focusing on getting more time off the wall each session)
    x3 sets
    Hallway or Partner or Grass Kickups x set a timer for 10-15 minutes and work on confidence and floating into your first solid handstands. Don't over do it. Just try to get a little better each session!
    Have fun yall - Josh

    Honestly the best advice I can give in terms of "how long?" is it doesn't matter, do it at your body's pace. The best realization I made that unlocked actual progress in my handstand in the past 8 months is strengthening and stretching my wrists and shoulders slowly. Your body has never had to balance your entire weight in your hands so slowly build the flexibility and strength to do so, otherwise you'll just keep getting shoulder and wrist pain that sets you back.

    This video was immensely helpful and provided me with some routines for my current skill level -- I've been attempting handstands after seeking out ways to make my exercise routine more interesting. I found myself hovering off the wall longer than I have previously after watching your vid and look forward to doing solid handstands!

    Great video! I was so scared of handstands since I fell on my back when I was a teenager and got terrified after the pain and the difficulty in breathing. I decided to try it again just a few months ago (after years of not having even tried) out of the blue and was able little by little to get a reasonably good one though on the wall. Even if I am still somehow scared of getting injured, I did try it on the hallway and guess what? I was able to do it without the wall for a couple of seconds. Im so proud! Thats such a good hack. It does help greatly in making me feel more relaxed as I see I can't fall over. Ill keep on trying!

    I have been waiting to try to get a handstand... you have explained this very thoroughly I can hold my feet against the wall and one foot at a time for a minute or two minutes but it's just me doing it continuously and I love the way you explain the different ways to feel the body so I'm going to try this this will be good for my community and courses... when I master this I definitely am going to give you the props I feel and believe the different directions and modifications how you said to get into it's going to get me in it and I'm going to practice today...thank you yogi!!!

    Awesome video, I have been thinking about making my friday workout more about skills training and doing something like handstands. Since I'm lacking on the calisthenics exercise for the muscles on tops of my shoulders, something like handstands would fill that gap once I can get up there properly! Also like how you typed out some brief routine notes in the comments and pinned it. One of the first things I did when getting into youtube was suskribe to sckrent side and I've loved every bit of it! I appreciate yo shit Josh

    Love your content dude. One question about head position in the handstand. I notice you are always looking down at your hands during your handstand. This puts a lot of pressure on your neck, is it better to keep your chin tucked and keep your head in a more natural gaze or keep your head "up" looking at your hands? Thanks!

    • @Strengthside

      That’s the name of the game! In the early days consistency is very challenging. It will come with more and more practice. Just be stoked you’re getting those 20 sec handstand holds at all 😁

    Life is better upside down

    • @helpfulcommenter
      @helpfulcommenter 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's actually terrible for your brain. We didn't evolve to be upside down. Your blood brain barrier is finely tuned. Doing repeated extended-length handstands like this is a surefire way to pave the way towards blood clots and raising your stroke risk exponentially. Maybe not when you're young, but you'll do damage that is irreversible and will come back later in life to bite you.

    Holding a handstand due to wrist and shoulder strength isn't the issue. How do you keep the blood from rushing to your head? I don't care what you say, there's no way doing handstands that long is good for your brain.

    • @teatowel11
      @teatowel11 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is a physiological thing that improves over time.
      The first and biggest thing is thst you learn to relax more. When the muscles in your neck etc are relaxed, its easier for the blood to be pumped back to the heart.
      Your blood vessels are little tubes of muscles that expand and contract to control the diameter and therefore the flow of blood.
      You have baroreceptors which are little sensors that detect your blood pressure and effect the dilation of blood vessels as well as your heart rate etc.
      There are all subconscious things but your body does learn to do them morr effectively.
      So the trick is to try and relax and start with short amounts of time upside down and slowly increase.
      In a similar way, if you are bedridden for a long time, you might pass out if you stand up quickly, and in may take a week or two before you relearn how to stabalise your blood pressure when standing up.
      Astronaughts and fighter pilots have more extreme blood pressure vhanges due to the g forces and need exposure to train their bodies.
