I don’t have any convictions on this at all. Just curious. I have Harold Hoehner’s book Chronological Aspects of the Life of Christ. His view was that Jesus had to be an infant when the magi showed up because Herod died in March after Jesus’ probable birth between late Nov to Feb. Apparently Herod was known for overkill which would explain the order of killing all babies up to two years old.
It’s definitely possible. I can’t remember his exact argument so I’ll have to refresh myself on it. I don’t think a lot is riding on this particular detail, but it wouldn’t surprise me if Herod killed 2 years and younger as “overkill.”
No. Jesus was born 1 Nisan (march/April) 6 BC. Herod the Great died 4 BC when Jesus as two. Christmas like Sunday is a false teaching from the Roman Catholic Church which was originally very anti Jewish and pagan.
@ What’s coming out these days is so interesting. I’ve heard all my life that Christmas started as a pagan holiday with many pagan practices that were then christianized. Now we seem to be learning that the opposite is true. How cool!
Peter, thanks for busting Christmas myths, but let's bust the biggest myth of all, that Dec 25th is Jesus birthday, when clearly it not. What makes Christian myths so bad, is that they tend to creep into God's word, slowly corrupting it, until the truth is lost, yet seem so appealing to the common person that they get accepted without question.
Yeah I’m actually not sure about December 25! It is probably not right, but there is a lot of evidence for it actually. I read an interesting journal article on the historical analysis recently.
Great setup
Love the desk
❤

Oh no! Now I'll have to go full Puritan and never celebrate Christmas again! 😅
Mostly kidding.
