Metro Center + Castles and Coasters was the Saturday special for me in my teenage years. Go to a movie at Metro and hang out there from around 10 - 3, then castles and coasters until parents picked up around 8 or 9. I'm sure my parents loved not having me around on Saturdays :)
I worked at MetroCenter 1974-75. Used to take me Grandma there after her chemo treatments. She loved watching the kids skating while having lunch at the food court.

The mall in Casa Grande was abandoned because of the new shopping center they built just down the street. It was still being used a few years after that opened, probably by those people who got raided for investor fraud. We used to stop by the Wendy's there every Sunday on the way to Eloy from Phoenix.

Can we all take a moment to remember how the mall defined a generation? For me it was in Tucson and the abandoned old El Con mall. I used to buy a lot of videogames at the Electronic Boutique (EB). But the see them gone? It's a sad day in America when such popular places to gather can no longer be enjoyed by our kids (sigh).
As a kid , I remember us stopping at twin arrows . It was your typical off the road tourist trap , with all the cheesy stuff inside . Metrocenter had some good memories . I learned to roller skate there , from a girl I was chasing in high school .
I lived across the street from the metro center when it closed. Worked door dash at the time and occasionally would get orders from the Cinnabon inside which was one of the only remaining stores when it closed. The Cinnabon was on the opposite side from the only doors you were still allowed to go through and you’d have to walk past rows and rows of either closed stores or people that would normally be running one of those knock off toy booths running out of the store locations and one place that did taxes AND wedding photos. Malls that are close to dying always have a specific feel about them. All of the escalators were off and blocked off, there was a minimum amount of lights on, and hardly anyone inside. Right before it closed, there was a very briefly a uhaul store that was planning to begin running out of one of the big flag store locations, but it never even began work and if you looked inside it was just a big empty building with everything torn up. Also the harkins that’s attached to it had a very old school concessions stand, two actually but only one ran and it was the further away one… I very specifically remember a giant popcorn kernel attached to one of the walls and nothing else to go with it. I was sad when it closed but it was on its deathbed for a longggg time.

A friend of mine helped build the roof of the Abandoned Mall near Casa Grande. He mentions it whenever we drive by it when we have to take a road trip together.
I remember going to the Casa Grande strip mall, my mom taking us to the Gap and Wendy's every time we drove from Tucson to Phoenix. One of the few abandoned structures still standing as of 2024 that I have memories of in business, but the location was questionable.
I was too young to understand that it was Avril Lavigne but I do remember seeing her perform. Fiesta was always my family’s go to place. We left the state of AZ for about 6 months and when we came back we immediately saw the changes to store had. Including the Ponchos (the sea food place) restaurant and the goodwill (k-momo) that was across the street was no more.
The Mall in Casa Grande. I bought most of my comic books there for a bit. Evil Ernie, various Spawn comics even a cheesey Undertaker comic 😅 But I loved it. Miss the ol little theatre in there too. Went there as a kid to about my teens.
That abandoned mansion off rt 66 outside of Flag, where exactly is that? Looks to be out by Winona, but can’t tell. We’d love to get out there as we live in Flagstaff.
I passed through the Metro center mall area in February of this year and it looks like it is being used as a migrant city it was fenced off with a security gate and a large Walmart in what looked to be the old Dillards and the area was heavily guarded and no construction equipment anywhere near!
Fiesta mall was a racist mall. I hated going there. I’m glad it’s a hole in the ground now. Mesa didn’t even want to celebrate MLK day. We lost our first superbowl here because of Mesa. Metrocenter is a nice mall. Still has good bones. I really dont understand why they want to make it an outdoor place where in Summertime of 120 degrees heat, we can’t go inside and people watch. The Casa Grand mall sold clothes that had defects. I bought a pair of expensive Reebok tennies and they fell apart in 3 weeks. I never went back
thank you for sharing
I liked the video before u called undocumented immigrants ANIMALS IN CAGES
I've been to a lot of the places off Route 66 and also like hearing about the history, just not the extra commentary. :-)
I was paid off in bitcoin to add the extra commentary.....shhhh, dont tell anyone!
Im pretty sure that Joe Dirt would be the most recent movie having A scene shot at Twin Arrows!
it wasnt filmed there, I thought that too but the Joe Dirt fireworks scene was filmed somewhere out in the mojave desert
Used to hang at Fiesta Mall as a teenager. Had my first date there.
awesome!
that mall in casa grande near the end is dusty as fuck inside btw. there should be open doors in the back and a broken window on one side close to the road you take to get down there
Good to know!
Where was abandoned park at (#10)?.
It's not hard to find, but i didn't want to give the exact location to some of these places to help preserve them....just gotta do a little homework on google, and you'll find it. Thanks for checking out the video! 👍
@@jessiesdroneadventures7464 Trying to remember the place. I've lived in Phoenix area almost my whole life, minus 2 years, stationed in England and such.
I believe he’s referring to cracker jax in Scottsdale I used to go there all the time back in the day
It's Crackerjax it's was on Scottsdale road between Frank Lloyd wright and Greenway parkwayish. I spent so much time there as a kid.
Metro Mall is just off the I-17 between Peoria and Dunlap 👍
There's a Drive in in Glendale still. 6 screens.

Looking at it it's not as close as I remember definitely still neat to look at
There's abandoned kids place called luv 2 play for 1year olds and up in airzona surprise bell road you should explore it they l3ft there playground and toys behind it's weird how they didn't close it up its doors but they gated their drive-thru somehow they love food behind snacks and rides and they left their arcade stuff this is how they stopped going out of business not a lot of people came they decide to give up
I'll have to check that one out.......thank you
I previously commented on when I worked at the Fiesta Mall in 2013 and how it showed signs of its impending closure. Around the same time, I lived just a few blocks from Metrocenter Mall. One day I decided to walk over to the mall I was not impressed. Much like Fiesta Mall, it also showed signs of its impending closure. In the following years, my friend and I used to go to Metrocenter just to see movies at the Harkins Theatre.
Thank you for sharing your story, I just recently read where demolition on the Metro Mall will be starting here sometime in the spring.....I'll have to get footage when they dome it
soon castle and coasters will be abandoned:(
@@bobbybrown8613 nooo, not castles and coasters!!
Dillard's bought Goldwater's.
Thank you for the info 👍 unfortunately moved to AZ just before this mall closed, didn't get to experience it
Crackerjax was the last miniature golf I took my kids just a few years ago sucks to see it trashed
I live in Az n metro mall was riddled with crime always! That area was well known for kidnapping and sex trafficking I’m so happy that they closed it down. Fiesta Mall it was kinda shocking when I saw they closed that mall I used to buy shoes from journeys all the time lol I think all the malls we have left is Fashion Square and AZ mills mall. I remember watching “ Hey Dude “ all the time ! I didn’t no it was filmed in AZ I’m definitely going to check out ur link of further exploring that location. U did an awesome job with this content !
Nope, Superstition Springs Mall is still open.

Lol, you got it!
Yes!! I agree! Here here
Thank you 🙏 I've already contemplated removing that part a couple times....."because some viewers thought it was too sensitive " but it's all in the name of comedy. I make fun of them all the same, actors, politicians, singers, Influencers, athletes haha. Appreciate the support 👍
@@jessiesdroneadventures7464 don’t. They win if you do it. It will show guilt. Don’t bend the knee. Cancelling doesn’t last long. Stay strong brother. I’m subbing to you btw. I know it isn’t much but I can show support that way
