- Well, the guy who requested a Stamps-Baxter song got his wish. The bass went down low, and the tenor skyrocketed. Hahaha.
I want to ask anybody that has a homemade video that they shot a concert of the Cathedral's with Danny to please send me a copy. I am trying to find as many as I can now that i have all the actual Cathedral videos. Please message me or email ( CHimmel08@yahoo.com) about it if you have one or a few.
Filmed 7-23-86, and thanks Lonemapper!!
Please subscribe. More videos coming and I don't want you to miss any of them! - เพลง
I love the way George's voice is so smooth when he goes low, unlike a lot of other SG basses.
Most truthful statement ever about George Younce, greatest bass that ever sang! I miss George so much.
The tenor looked and sounded like a baby who hadn’t had his milk in the morning when he hit the note in the end, my goodness that was high 😅
That's the highest note I ever heard Danny hit! Awesome!
What's neat about this arrangement is that on the end Mark jumps up and grabs the note that Danny left. The vocal versatility of these guys was purely brilliant.
Sweet mercy...........wow. what an absolutely awesome clip.....in all the times I've seen the Cathedrals live, I've rarely heard Glen talk much. His sense of humour and expressions are awesome.....thanks for posting.
Awesome singing., praise the Lord!
Absolutely love The Cathedrals, listen to them many many times a day and esp love George (right under God, he is my hero)....with that said..were they singing in a barn? I don't get it...of all of the many venues they sang at, even going to stinkin London!!!!, they're singing on a barn!?!! Love it!!!! Hahahahaha
Love this quartet!!!!!!
I agree with you Glen. Miss you both.
Love this quartet!!!!!! great ending!!!!! :D
The best cathedrals line up
I sure do miss Bro Glen and Bro George
If that don't light your fire your wood's wet!
ABSOLUTELY!!
this is awesome!
awesome thankyou for that
That is an outdoor stage setting in Pipestem WV. Actually a beautiful place. I imagine George and Glen had seen it all.

Wonder if you're familiar with a bass singer named Ray Burdett? He's the bass singer that took Big Chief's place with the Statesmen when Chief died. He was my first cousin. He passed away about a year ago. Pretty great bass himself. He told me George taught him how to sing low. I know he liked London Paris. But the best, in his opinion, was Big Jim Waits. Also his father's and my father's favorite.
Gerald Trentham h
Both were very good, but George Younce stated himself on one of the Gaither videos that Big Chief was the best of all time. Once they get to a certain level doesn't really matter who's better. They're both great. Check out the Statesmen's studio version of "Something Within". To me, it demonstrates the very best at each part.
Thanks for the clarification. I NEVER meant to say to Big Chief wasn't a great singer...he was. I wouldn't have respected George at all if he had said HE was the best ever!!
I'm familiar with the track, and it is great. The Statesmen, for me, are right below the Cathedrals. Still great, and better than all the rest.
Yes, but I don't know his work well. Big Jim Waits WAS a really good bass, and a real class act!
Any gospel group or singer that has been around long enough will tell you that the "Statesmen Quartett" were the very best ever and the best bass singer was "The Big Chief" These guys are great, but, Big Chief and a young JD Sumner were in another league above these guys!
So I was trying to compare on my piano. Did he hit a G1? Right below double low C?
I think it was a Bb, not sure tho
yes definitely Bb1
And a G1 isn't below a double low C, a double low C is a C1
A double low C is not a C1. A C1 is only a low C. The double low C would be the C below C1.
@glh104753 Based on what? Tim has great low notes but isn't even close to the same singer as George. Not putting Tim down, but he would be in London Paris category to me. George could sing high AND low superbly!
What are they doing, singing in someone's backyard shed?
@glh104753
george have the best bass overall time.
@bassman3294 WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@glh104753
george have the best bass overall time.1
I still like Ken Turner's version better
I'm sorry, no disrespect meant - but I HAVE been around long enough, and NO ONE was, is now, or ever WILL BE in the same league as this great quartet. The Statesmen were at the top of their game when they were singing, and were very innovative, but didn't have the depth of sound this group had. Big Chief was nearly as good as GY, but not quite. JD was just a growler, and without a mic, couldn't really be heard.
not a good bass. at all
+Joe Souders are you serious
+W. James Wright very
+Joe Souders Who is a good bass in your eyes?
JD Sumner, Tim Storms, etc
That is George Younce,
