That's stupid actually, that's not how he should've sounded here. He didn't need to pretend to be kind at this point. He already had control over Vader and the Empire. When he saw him last in Revenge of the Sith, he was in full Sith form. That's how we see him next in Jedi.

As the young people say, he likes to "troll" (as he did Luke in Return of the Jedi) The menace of it is that both he and Vader know he isn't being kind. He is like a smiling cobra. I think Ian pulled that off well-it is actually more nuanced than a 1-dimensional comic book baddie

I like how Ian is using Chancellor Palpatine's voice, and not the Sith Lord Sidious' voice. He's almost trying to sound more...gentle, and its coming off as way more intimidating.

That’s just part of how Sidious operates. Even if he isn’t being intimidating, he is. It’s the Emperor, after all, haha. Ian was, is, and always will be Palpatine/Sidious.
You never know where you stand with this one. Truly worthy of his name.

It's ridiculous. He should've been using his Sith lord voice at this point. That's how we saw him after Revenge of the Sith and that's how we see him next in Empire/Return. Deborah Chow should've caught that.
Hearing the chancellor's voice come out of that Sith lord was WAY scarier than the actual Sith lord bit to me

Honestly, I'm amazed at how good the prosthetic is. He actually looks like the version from Return Of The Jedi. Yes I know it's the same actor but Ian was a much younger man when he played him back then.
and somehow they managed to make him look older in Ep 6 than any other version of him
It's also far more convincing than it was in episode 6, where it kind of looked like they just glued a bunch of brown paper to his face.
@@NL-X well they did that on purpose of course. when making RotS they looked at how Palp looked in 6, that way they made him look younger for 3.
Palpatine here looks like the perfect mix of TROS Palpatine and ROTJ Palpatine

This look is more true to the original appearance of Ian McDiarmid as emperor in ROJ.
I don't know why the emperor here appears much better than in the hologram. Maybe is the effect but this look is totally like Ep 3.
He looks like so much as the Darth Sidious of the Phantom Menace too.

Make up looks better behind the scenes. Hologram and camera angle in the show kinda made it look off to me

They literally brought every major prequel character back for this show and all we saw was Reva 😂. If literary everyone is willing to be a part of the project, why waste them and set the focus on a new character? Imagine what a show it could have been if they really focused it on Obi wan and Vader. The behind the scenes look better than the show.

Cinematography is amazing but the writing is just too cliché focused and borderline lazy. Props to Ian though, no matter what gets thrown at him he never lets his standards slip and always gives an incredible performance 🙌🏻

Obi Wan series was filmed in LA. Ian lives in Scotland and came only at the Pinewood Studios (where Andor was also filmed). The director can't fly to London just for a minute. That's why by zoom

Now _that_ is the Emperor's make-up they should have used in Episode 3 instead of the flustercuck we saw.
Palpatine became more disfigured over the years after ep 3 and in episode 3 his face was just made like that as he was swollen from the lightning

@@leylaaydn7192 Palpatine's face is way more swollen here than it was in ROTS. His eyebrow ridges are so pronounced you can barely make out his eyes.
Palpatine would never let Obi-Wan on the loose, especially if they were so close to him and he intruded into their base. They made all Imperials dumber than in Spaceballs.
To the Emperor, the Jedi as a whole were no longer a concern. At that point, they weren't even a priority. They have the Inquisitorious to hunt them: and their effectiveness didn't matter as long as the Jedi are made aware that they are not allowed to live.
I would guess that he is already focused on gaining more power from the Dark Side, like the whole cheating death/unlimited power thing that he'd been talking about at RoTS.
As for the empire, I don't even think he cares what happens to it as long as he is in at the top and the Jedi are defeated. That would explain your take on them as "dumber". With all of the technological stagnation - as the in-universe explanation to the technology difference of RoTS and ANH - it further shows the Emperor's focus is elsewhere.
Lol, we're talking about the same guy who leaked the weakness of a highly vulnerable battle station to the Rebel spies and used himself as a bait, just because "I assure you, we're quite safe from your friends here".

More like the a problem that the Empire DIDN'T BOTHER TO care to handle.
1 - Kenobi eventually came back when the Rebellion got that crucial advantage.
2 - Kenobi got handled by the Empire that lead to his death, albeit willingly.
3 - Kenobi's death was not even a big deal to the Emperor. The failure of Vader was.

I beg to differ with the majority here. Palpatine's makeup here looks NOTHING like his ROTJ makeup. Another faulter to this horrid series.

@@87PauloRamos you're clearly just still salty about the sequels that aren't canon. Relax buddy. They understand they fucked up the sequels, and are working to retcon them with their new projects. When Ahsoka comes out, they'll be doing something with the World Between Worlds that will separate the sequels away from the main timeline that should've never been defiled and we'll get a newer better sequel era that Mando is a part of as well as ofc Ahsoka and probably even Boba Fett.
As for Obi-Wan's show, it wasn't even bad. It was just a little treat for the prequel lovers. You'll come to love it too in a few years once everyone forgets the non-canon sequels.

Oh yeah, that's why we see Snoke clones in tubes in Mandalorian, TLJ stone huts in Boba Fett and Luke being incompetent teacher sending Grogu away for Ben Solo to be his first student... They openly said they aren't going to retcon everything. Besides, the shows are terribly written too

Kenobi was a turd of a show. I feel sorry for the actors involved who got handed a script written by a ten year old and directed by someone who thinks shaky cam and murky grey drab colours and low contrast are a sign of quality.
It wasn’t great, but at the end, I did love it. The fight at the end was amazing and emotional. The Emperor didn’t look amazing but alright
