- It puzzles me why Make Him Mine was never a hit in 1964, with its Four Seasons-like vibe and Susan Maughan's stunning looks. From the 1965 British movie Pop Gear (Go Go Mania in the U.S.), this song deserves it's own "live" TV performance. Please select the 720p60 setting for that live / videotaped look.
My god... She's so beautiful!!! And the song is pretty great too!
If only she’d had the opportunity to perform this song at The Boar’s 🐗 Nest in good old Hazzard County on the classic 1979-85 CBS action adventure comedy series “THE DUKES OF HAZZARD”, just to payoff the fine on a speeding ticket?!
This is one of my favorite clips of all time. Amazing 60s style. And I love how she never looks directly into the camera.
Ed Sullivan obviously didn’t know what he missed out on by forgetting to book her for a performance.
Not much we can be proud of these days, but back then we had Susan Maughan and that beautiful voice, and what a voice.
Is she still alive?
for her to still look this beautiful after all the refurbishing of the footage means she wasn't wearing very much makeup and has a true natural beauty . nice voice too, and love her outfit and hair.
Absolute SIXTIES ..I remember when I was young....I have seen ladies having this kind of looks then... wonderful..
If only those raven tresses were at least three or four times longer than their length in this footage.
Definitely.
How on earth did England produce such a gorgeous woman with dark hair and dark eyes? That voice is marvelous oxoxoxoxo
Obviously she’s the daughter of a Scottish highlander and a Russian maiden whose family fled the tyranny of Lenin.
@@LindaCooper-i3f Is that a legitimate biographical factoid?
9 times out of 10, yes.
This song is a little gem.
How true that is.
Good looking lady, great voice too.
YEAH!
Very classy. talented and attractive. Never saw any english ladies like her where did they go
Susan is still a beautiful lady and singer.
Out of sight!
Now, if only we can possibly get her booked for a performance at Poppy Mountain in Morehead, Kentucky, USA 🇺🇸 next September?!
Susan was a great.
Still is.
LYRICS
(Written by myself because I didn't find them anywhere else)
Make the moon shine
Just a little brigther
Make him hold me
Just a little tighter
This a bet on you (?)
Make my dreams come true
Make him Mine
Make the hour pass (?)
Just a little slower
Make him squeze me
Just a little closer
Closer to his heart
From the very start
Make him Mine
I can't bear to ever let him go
Since we met tonight
Just the thought of being in his arms
Makes me feel so right
So I'm begging you to
Make the night last
Just a little longer
Make his kisses
Just a little stronger
Make his heart beat fast
But most of all I has (?)
Make him Mine
I can't bear to ever let him go
Since we met tonight
Just the thought of being in his arms
Makes me feel so right
So I'm begging you to
Make the night last
Just a little longer
Make his kisses
Just a little stronger
Make his heart beat fast
But most of all I has (?)
Make him Mine
Too bad that no one else has tried recording this song.
I had exactly the same thought.
So far so good.
Beautiful film / song.
In The U.K. 🇬🇧 is was titled “GO-GO MANIA!”, and in the USA 🇺🇸 it had the title of “POP GEAR”!
A proper singer!
Better than some of the creeps in the business today.
My first crush, i was only 7!!
I can see why Good taste. For sure 🤪
Wowsers!
Definitely.
I'm reminded of Dusty Springfield's 'He's Got Something' that I have on the 'I Only Want To Be With You' EP, as the fine slice of Brit Girl Wall of Sound that this is. You're right that it is a puzzle why it wasn't a hit. Susan Maughan is one of those lesser-considered female artists of that era from these shores and perhaps half-forgotten, but she certainly sprang to my attention during a time when I was very fond of trips to Birmingham's now-demolished former Central Library for their collection of vintage 'Radio Times' and 'TV Times' magazines when I encountered a feature of a programme - from this very year, I seem to recall - in which she featured with a photo of her and I thought something along the lines of, "My word! She's not bad! Susan Maughan, eh?"
Amazing 😻!
💗
So does my 47 year old son.
Catchy song, Great voice and a very pretty lady. This should have been a hit - i can imagine Dusty Springfield doing this.
Actually, both of the ladies were recording under the Philips label at the time, so it could easily have been considered.
It’s a possibility.
Definitely.
A real fox... Gorgeous
Fox was used as a reference to good looking ladies in the 1970s.
I'm just learning to play this on my uke at the mo. I forgot how FIT AS F**K Suaan actually is lol and how good her voice is too. When I was a kid in the 80's I thought she was American. I'm now very proud that she's a Brit "That Other Place" is her best song in my opinion. That's why I posted it on my channel many years ago. Love her xx
How unusual.
A great song and Susan Maughan is 84 yrs old now.
Is she still able to perform possibly?
She is what I wish I looked like!
You could always adopt a similar hairstyle, for one thing.
A lot of girls deserve that classic look to defy some of these modern fashion mongers.
And possibly twice as thick as well as three times longer.
One of my all-time favorite singers, bar none!
How many eBay sellers are trying to unload the original vinyl 45RPM of this song onto some pigeon or another?
It's brilliant that we have this clip of Susan on high quality colour film. So many 60s acts were only captured on grainy black and white video tape.
The footage will be 50 years old next year.
Don’t you mean 60 years old?
My error. I stand corrected. TFTI (thanks for the information).
Beautiful classy lady!
DYN-O-MITE!
Moc se mi písnička líbí,Susan Maughan jí zpívá opravdu moc krásně,tleskám👏👏😀
Right on!
🙏❤God make him forever mine!😊🌸
All the way.
SUSAN MAUGHN is a showbiz legend in the U.K. but never seemed to be able to attract an international audience.
I accidently discovered her on You Tube what a voice what a gorgeous face
Therefore, a booking at the Poppy Mountain Festival in the USA 🇺🇸 in Morehead, Kentucky, might just do the trick?!
YOU GOT IT!
She would have made a smashing James Bond girl. Gold finger was made in 64, she would have been a nice contrast to Honor Blackman and Shirley Eaton.
I doubt if she’d even have gotten into the roster for the flying circus of P. Galore!
輝かしい60年代の象徴❗
アメリカよりイギリスの方が魅力的でした。
Likewise.
So beautiful
How true that is.
I dig her
DITTO!
She's stunning British singer looks like priscilla presely fabulous songs but no international acclaimed.. unfortunately ..shame very talented
Strong possibility.
♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Top notch!
Susan dieses Superfrau singt wie eine Göttin
Yep!
This is a follow-up to a comment I made here about a year ago when I said, "I agree, that within its time, I'm surprised this wasn't a hit in the Petula Clark mold. And I agree that it has a Four Seasons/Bob Gaudio-style vibe with the girl group overlay. I had never heard it prior today. How on earth did you find it?"
To @957davidm, again, where did you find this clip.
To my British friends seeing this, probably in your seventies like me, what was the setting? Was this some British TV show from 1964? I am just so curious.
@richtruesdell7276 This clip was originally seen in "Pop Gear", filmed in December 1964 and released to cinemas in April 1965. From there, I did some editing of the clip to make it resemble more a live / videotaped TV performance. You will note there is some silence at the beginning of the clip, where I have edited out Jimmy Savile's introduction. Cheers.
Anything’s possible.
We need to get “POP GEAR” re-released onto theatre screens for its 60TH Anniversary next year.
The singer moved, acted and looked like Franchesca from "Mad Monster Party"
Heavens to hemlock.
Gee, she sounds just like Glenda Collins - or does Glenda Collins sound like Susan Maughan. maybe they grew up in the same town? Great song!
Wow! What program did you use to get this effect? Thanks.
Avisynth does all the magic, literally doing some mathematical calculations and inserting an extra frame between the adjacent frames of a 24 fps or 25 fps film. The net result is that a clip that looks like a film can be restored much of the way to a clip that looks like live or videotaped vision at 50 or 60 fps. Some times this is unkindly referred to as the soap opera effect, but it certainly has its place in the restoration of video to how it would have looked "live"
@@957davidm Is that why the audio is sped up?
@@PhilMoskowitz The audio track, which was sourced from a 7" 45 rpm single, has been sped up by about 4% to more closely match the video, which was 25fps. If you live in a PAL 50Hz country, 24fps movies are shown on TV at 25fps. This speeds up the audio by 4.166% compared with what you'd hear in a cinema, but you get used to it.
In turn the pitch has been lowered to more closely match the pitch of the 45 rpm record. So, the 45 single sounds slower when played on a turntable.
Personally, I prefer the quicker tempo in the video clip I produced. I think it improves the song and it was the swinging sixties after all.
Good question.
Good possibility.
I agree, that within its time, I'm surprised this wasn't a hit in the Petula Clark mold. And I agree that it has a Four Seasons/Bob Gaudio-style vibe with the girl group overlay. I had never heard it prior today. How on earth did you find it?
She sounds so American that it's hard to believe she's a Brit. Now I have to see if I can find a stream of Pop Gear/Go Go Mania. It wouldn't surprise me if it wasn't like the 1962 movie, It's Trad Dad.

She almost looks Southern European but then again so does Catherine Zeta-Jones she's British (Welsh) the girls could sing both of them
And Cate Blanchett could possibly portray her in a cinematic biopic?!
@LindaCooper-i3f Cate is a brilliant actress but I don't think Susan is famous enough for a biopic I could be wrong
@johnfulton4061,
All we need is for Jamie Farr of “M*A*S*H” to direct the movie as well as release it onto screens of all cinemas, and the rest is smooth sailing.
