My mum used to say the same but she worded it differently. She used to say that prayer is spiritual and you have to live in reality. In other words, if you are sick, you go to a doctor. If you need money, you go to work. She loathed people who went to church daily. It was nuisance to her. I miss her dearly.

I started drinking when I was 16. I would drink at parties, but I also started drinking alone because I was unhappy, and I was in a lot of emotional pain all the time. My mom was very aggressive when I was younger, and my brother hated her and so did I. He started hanging out with shady people, he started failing all his classes, he was never home, and my parents fought all the time. I also ran away several times. I was always trying to figure out a reason as to why I was here or what the purpose of life was. So, I started looking at different philosophies, religions, and beliefs. When I was 18 after I was hungover, I got on my knees and I prayed for the first time. I asked if God was real that he would show me he was real because I couldn’t take it anymore. I was crying when I prayed for this. At that moment I felt a presence come over me like a wind. It was barely noticeable, but it was unlike anything in my life I had experienced up until that point. I was surprised when I felt it and I remember saying “what was that?” after that experience I pretty much forgot what happened and kept partying, until my senior year when I got arrested. After my arrest, my parents lost all their trust in me and I was expelled from high school. I was told never to come back to my school. At that time, I felt afraid and hopeless. That’s when I started looking for God, and I prayed that he would reveal himself in my life and that he would give me signs. My prayers began getting answered so consistently that I couldn’t deny that God was doing something. It was mysterious and compelling. I ended up in Church and started reading the bible hours a day. I stopped hanging out with all my other friends because they were continually getting arrested. I was able to forgive my family and myself and to ask to be forgiven. I noticed how at Church people were judgmental and how they formed cliques but were afraid to be around anyone else different from them. It increased my faith because I realized Jesus was not like that and ever since I was young, I saw people as people regardless of who they were. After a while, it’s like I could see God's presence was in my life and then it felt like he wasn’t, and then he was, and then he wasn’t. One day I woke up and felt more depressed than I ever have in my entire life. I felt like I was dying on the inside. That night I prayed, and I said, God, I don’t see my life five years from now I'm going to die Jesus save me Lord, please save me. I was weeping when I said it and when I asked him to save me, I felt a presence inside of me like a heartbeat, and I felt it once like a pulse, and I said Lord please save me and I felt it again even stronger. It was like radiance. When I woke up the next morning, I had transformed everything felt brand new like I was a kid again. All my fears and all my racing thoughts everything was gone. I looked at my hands, and I said this can’t be real, it's impossible. When I looked at myself in the mirror, I saw a different person. I started praying, and the holy spirit became entirely real to me; it was washing over me and inside of me. It was total love and peace, and I heard a voice but not an audible one, it was an inner voice. It said I am with you; I love you, I will never leave you, it’s done it’s finished. That was May 3rd, 2009, and ever since then I’ve followed God, I have seen many things change and many things I know wouldn’t have changed without faith and belief. I know what it’s like to be lost to feel you have no hope. Don’t ever think you’re stuck, or life can’t change because it can. My mom is a Christian now, Its night and day. Some of the things that went away during that period were severe anxiety and my addiction to alcohol. I’ve seen and experienced so many things that are miraculous and seen how God has worked in my life. When we ask God to forgive us for what we’ve done and turn away from our sins and wrongdoings and we believe in Christ's sacrifice everything changes. His word says if we confess with our mouths that Jesus is Lord and believe in our hearts that he died and rose again we will have eternal life but not just life after death but abundant life in the present. Our sins are erased not only past, present, and future but our burdens and fears are lifted also. Our thoughts, our minds, our hearts, our souls are transformed and united with God and we know his spirit lives in us. If you seek, pray, and knock you will know JESUS IS KING!!! HE LIVES!
"Every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. So then, by their fruit you will recognize them.
Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’
Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you workers of lawlessness!’

South Africa has laws that are too liberal, going to the extent to protect the perpetrators of such offences more than the victims. The most wanted criminals in my country, most of whom are on the interpol list, are known to reside in South Africa. Therefore I believe they need to put in place laws to protect their people first.

    • @M00NL9GHT

Religion in Africa is one of the biggest money-making schemes, fortunately enough, we Africans are too imbibed into religion, that rather than work and seek a solution, we go to these kinds of churches to seek the help we need. People like Cheryl, I hope they eventually get the strength needed to find spirituality on themselves. Back home there was a big story on one of the Mega churches called COSA, where a lady laid an allegation against the pastor for sexual relationship/blackmail.... to tell you the truth, i never knew what came of it.

    • @christset
      @christset ปีที่แล้ว +5

@@DWThe77Percent Drawing the line between trustworthy and untrustworthy preachers requires discernment and wisdom.
Here are a few considerations to help distinguish genuine preachers of the Word:
Knowledge of God's Word: Study and understand the teachings of the Bible. A strong foundation in Scripture will help you recognize when someone's teachings deviate from the truth.
Biblical Alignment: Evaluate if the teachings align with the principles and teachings found in the Bible. A faithful preacher will prioritize the accurate interpretation and application of God's Word.
Fruit of the Spirit: Look for evidence of the fruits of the Spirit in their lives, such as love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. A sincere preacher will exemplify these qualities.
Accountability and Integrity: Consider whether the preacher operates with transparency, accountability, and integrity. They should be open to feedback, correction, and willing to submit themselves to the guidance of spiritual leaders or authorities.
Testimony and Impact: Examine the testimonies of those who have been positively influenced by the preacher's ministry. Pay attention to the impact their teachings have had on people's lives and whether they align with biblical truth.
Prayer and Discernment: Seek guidance from the Holy Spirit through prayer and ask for discernment when evaluating preachers. The Holy Spirit can help reveal the truth and guide you in making wise decisions.
Ultimately, drawing the line between trustworthy preachers and those who may not be reliable requires a combination of biblical knowledge, spiritual discernment, and seeking guidance from God. It is important to remain diligent in studying the Word of God and growing in discernment to avoid being misled by false teachings.

The gospel of Christ is not about your religion and my religion, Christianity is the only religion that answers humanity's most fundamental question about our existence, why are we here, how did we get here, for what purpose, good and evil, who or what is behind our design. @@KB.23that’s also unbiblical my friend, nowhere does the Bible say “true church is only in yourself”. Yes everyone should have a personal relationship with God and seek Him for themselves at home in their secret place (Matthew 6:6). Even Jesus went frequently alone to the mountain to pray (Mark 1:35).
What it does say is Matthew 18:19-20 “where two or three are gathered together in My name, I’m there in the midst of them”. Acts 2:42 “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teachings, prayer, FELLOWSHIP, breaking of bread”. Acts 2:46-47 “with one accord they continued to meet daily in the temple courts……. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved” Read the full two verses for yourselves.
Jesus as the Son of God, while He was on Earth He was always found in the synagogue. Yes it’s hard to find a true church in these perilous times where false prophets run rampant everywhere but Hebrews 10:25 still tells us to not forsake the gathering of Gods people and to keep encouraging each other.

We live in a fallen world due to man's choice to rebel. The only redemption is through Jesus. You want to complain about God not sparing you from pain, but you reject and despise the God who came down to earth as a man and DIED for you to save you from the consequences of your own sin. @@plousia: Interesting. I understand you a bit more based on your last comment.
As you have probably suspected, I'm an atheist, however being an atheist does not mean that I do not have a moral compass and that I do not know the difference between right and wrong. Atheist are no more immoral than so called religious people are moral. In fact, the most immoral people that I've come across in my life are people who claim to have God in their lives. Most historical wars waged have either been a Jih@ds or a cruc@des of some sort, which led to the slaughter of millions of innocent people. In fact the whole of the slave trade, which involved atrocities to my ancestors, was justified by the church and christians because it was believed that my African ancestors were not fully human.
Secondly, you make the false argument that God gives people "free will". This cannot be true. It cannot be true because it is written that God knows us before we are born. He knows what we will do ..... because he is God and he is the alpha and omega etc. If this is true, then humans are subject to destiny. Destiny cannot be changed. Even me writing this comment, is part of my destiny. Therefore, there is nothing that I can do to change my destiny (and God should know this). There are no prayers that I can make, no behaviours that I can acquire that I was not already meant to do. This altimately means that I do not have free will ..... because I was destined to behave in certain ways in the first place.
Finally, you can miss me with your plea for me to repent from my arrogance and pride nonsense. If God, as you say, is "love" he should love all of his children regardless of their behaviours. Anyway, I'm an atheist and I don't believe in the illogical fairytales in the bible. I, likewise hope that one day you wake up and stop believing in what you have no proof that it exists. Wake up.
