Workflow optimizations and an attitude of "if it works, don't change it" means we get to enjoy a not-burned-out Christopher every Sunday morning, like clockwork!
Hi Jeff -- what you say is very true. Something I learned many years ago is that one way to keep running a channel on a weekly schedule is to keep the computers I work on separate from those I make videos with/about.
@@ExplainingComputers I am also ur channels subscriber. Good to see how u manage ur work flow with pc. Honestly i was surprised with a lot of thing. 🤟🤟🤟🤟
What is a "2000's style setup" precisely? Do you mean one that isn't owned by some "gamer brat" playing "Top Trumps" with his computer on Reddit with his "pretend Internet friends" whilst posting photos of his "work area" looking like a Boeing 747 flight deck? "I have five 4K monitors running." "Damn, I have only 4. But I have 24 Ryzen cores." "Damn, I have only 16 Ryzen cores." etc. etc. etc. Just for the record, computers are tools for productivity and entertainment - someone who understands computers properly doesn't care what colour they are, or whether a PC case has a window in the side showing red lights like the boudoir of a "disreputable lady".
You are a modest man Chris, a true gentleman and an inspiration to many. Thank you for being you and not being a "typical" big TH-camr. - all flash but no substance. Take care, see you next Friday... 🙂
A small gift, Mr Barnatt, to celebrate this momentous occasion (about the price I pay for a Moet & Chandon champagne here!). And to express appreciation for the amazing, non-pretentious work you do.
It's nice to see a studio that is obviously being used. So many others have done videos like this that show a spotless, totally clear studio. As we all know, a workspace being used... I mean REALLY being used is never totally clear. Realism makes the videos genuine. Thanks for being REAL with us.
Personally I think that's rather insulting. I think you should be more concerned with the hard work and effort that Chris puts into making his excellent content, but there you are focusing on his appearance.
His channel reminds me of some of the educational shows that we used to watch at school and some of the stuff they used to show on TV here before everything became an appeal to the lowest common denominator. Chris reminds me of one of my colleagues at work also who is very old school but very knowledgable. Especially with getting mileage out of older hardware!
Haha Chris. Brilliant. It’s impressive that you can do so much with modest equipment. It’s a big lesson. We often simply don’t need high end gear. It’s the method of production that is more important and imagination and invention. We don’t need to buy our way to make progress. The wheel has already been invented. Just use it. Bravo.
It wasn't that long ago when I first subscribed to your channel when it only had 56,000 subscribers. Despite the channel having more or less 20x the subscriber count now, the quality and overall feel of the videos still remain top tier. Congratulations on this milestone, Chris!
I've never quite been sure why your videos are so calming to me, but now I think I do. You don't rush into things. You use what works and what helps you in your process. I'm a video editor for a TV station here in the States and I've been all about the latest and greatest in recent years. Thank you for the tour and a reminder to not be so wowed by equipment just because it's new.
Thanks for this. I have the big advantage of having started out working on film. And in that world, nobody ever changed editing hardware ever few years -- it was solid, reliable and lasted decades. And I guess I have carried the philosophy of 16mm film production and post into "video".
Very well deserved - this channel is a triumph of accurate, thorough, well-chosen content/value over BS 👌. This tour is typical of your approach. Fascinating and so different from the largest tech review channels.
That appears to be a load bearing tower 😃. Definitely hide under that desk if you get any East Midlands earthquakes. Congratulations, and thoroughly deserved. So let's go and take.... a closer look........
Define your use of the term "modern desktop"? I've never stopped to consider whether my own work environment is "fashionable" or not - there again I am not inclined to post photos of it on social media, looking like something from a Boeing 747 flight deck. For example, I use Linux on one single HD monitor and just switch between virtual desktops as I need to because eyes have never told my brain "We need four times as many pixels" or "We now need to work as "chameleon eyes" independently of each other and looking at two separate monitors at the same time". Is that "modern" enough for you, or do I need to change it? You're clearly very well informed on the issue and now I'm worried that I am not one of the "cool" kids, I possibly need help from a "desktop feng-shui-ist".
@@Lucas_van_HoutIs that all you have? I didn't ask you to "overthink", I simply looked at the words that you yourself used and asked you to explain your usage of them. This is simply because treating a workspace as a "fashion venue" is an alien concept to me, and I was therefore hoping to understand that concept from someone who, from their own words, appears to know a lot about it.
@@terrydaktyllus1320 You have to be a dink every time. You can't even read. OP said "modern display," not modern desktop. How about you stop being miserable and picking fights all the time?
When I saw your desk: Oh, so old components! Compared with my Ryzen and Alder-Lake CPUs, they are too old. When I saw your shooting room: Wow, what a professional room. All items are in exactly the place where they are needed and they show the wisdom of their owner.
I love how this shows that we really don't need the latest and greatest and that we really can just keep what works, even if it's a decade old. Congratulations on 1M subscribers and have 1 more from me!
Your desk is probably on of my favourite creator setups. It really is a time capsule. So many TH-camrs spend thousands on their set ups, when you are proof that you really do not need to spend a lot to get really high quality work done. Reaching one million subscribers should have happened back in 2015 when you started going weekly. It should not have taken a channel of this quality to take 15 years to get to 1 million followers. Also, this is one of my favourite videos of the year so far!
Congrats on a huge milestone Christopher. Cleanest and the most concise channel in whole TH-cam. White backgrounds, perfect framing, clear inforgraphics and subtitles, recurring characters like Mr. Scissors and Stanley the Knife bring me back to your channel again and again. Keep up the good work, let's get that second million even faster.

If it aint broke don't fix it. Your method works perfectly for you, so why would you change? You are comprehensive and knowledgeable. Your videos are very professional. It all goes to show that the best equipment has a very long shelf life when it's looked after and it can put more modern equipment to shame in the right hands. Congratulations on your Millionth subscription.
Christopher - congratulaltions on your 1M subs. Your channel is a triumph of practicality and common sense over pandering to vested interests, sponsorships and pointless change for the sake of change.
Well-deserved and congratulations on 1m subscribers! I love your presentation and content, keep up the awesome work sir!
Congratulations for 1M Chris :)
