still get goosebumps listening to this. the fragility and delicacy in handling each expressive line yet together with the piano it is still so powerful without overwhelming each other. i love how both instruments are so important in balancing each other out and leaning on each other.
I'm an oboist myself and I know well the great diffilcuty of this piece. The execution of the m.°Mayer is simply excellent. I wish I could play them just like that.
The piece is just tearing one's heart out and this rendition by Albrecht Mayer and Hélène Grimaud is superbly exquisite. Of course, I could do without the commercials which rudely interrupt the piece, but this is small price to pay for the joy. Thanks for uploading.
@@jacobjung6794 I shall definitely check out this option! Thanks for recommending it, it's absolutely maddening when the ads pop up in the middle of a movement, but annoying even it is between movements (as here). Thanks, again.
Rolland Skand, talk American so the whole world can understand what you're talking about instead of a few villagers somewhere in bumfuck planet Earth. Thank you.
Playing this for my Advanced Certificate on the saxophone and it’s so great to hear how beautiful and fluid it is with the original oboe version- very helpful!!
Deeply haunting, entrancing music written by the composer with the purest Romantic voice, Robert Schumann. Albrecht Mayer is mesmerizing as always. Shared on Google Plus...thank you for posting.
Изумительное исполнение музыки Роберта Шумана! Звучит "живая речь", с присущей ей богатой палитрой интонаций! Прекрасный ансамбль - взаимопроникновение и единство дыхания! БРАВО!!!
Oboe, reminds me of good things of the past, I remember that five hundred years ago I ran in the fields with a floral dress hand in hand with my lover ...
Amazing performance. The oboe and piano are like one. I've played this piece and also the Phantasy pieces on the clarinet and they are not so easy to play.
I'm playing this at the moment and really enjoying it.. This is a really lovely performance indeed. The 'key' to this piece haha is the relationship with the piano and really blending together which is pretty awesome here.. :)
I especially prefer 2nd Romance. We can receive genuine romanticism of Schumann. Of course, Both Oboe and Piano are so marvelous. And I've loved piano playing of Grimaud for long times. Her Mozart or Beethoven piano concertos are so astonishing.
Zimerman is the best interpreter of Beethoven's piano concertos. Listen to him play the 3rd concerto with Bernstein conducting. You will hear its beauty for the first time.
Schumann's 'Romanzas' performed by two talented artists resonates symmetry & beauty. One can appreciate the balance interacting between lightness and harmonious contrast.

I wonder what make of oboe Herr Mayer plays. I didn't get a close look, but it sounds like it might be a Hans Kreul rather than a Lorée. I play a Hans Kreul myself and have always loved its rich dark sound, just a little thicker than most Lorées I've heard.
Gave thumbs up. However, I'm not happy with beginning tempo then such drastic tempo changes. Yes, I understand that it's a Romance, however, that's my take. Gorgeous piece. Lovely oboe tone. Outstanding piano accompanying. Wish Ms. Grimaud would keep her left foot/shoe still though. Distracting. Many thanks for the beautiful rendition.

This is probably one of the best oboist & pianist combinations that you could ever find on Earth. Meyer and Grimaud. Simply divine...

Agree. The clarity of Schumann's music is what is so appealing. Schumann's favorite composer was Mozart, a case of like attracting like.
