20 years of trucking and I’ve never seen THIS!

  • I've been trucking for a long time and this is the first time I've ever seen a self greasing 5th wheel! I know of self greasing systems on heavy equipment, but have never seen a setup like this before. Anyways, in this video, I got called by a gentleman who is having to move after his landlord passed away and the beneficiaries decided to sell the house. He has a couple of projects that he was in the middle of them, and one of those projects was a Freightliner truck that currently does not have insurance or registration, so he had me tow it to his new property about 3 hours away

Casey LaDelle is such a kind, helpful and wonderful person. Here's some additional info on the person who owns the 1994 Freightliner Casey moved to Sprague River, OR. USAF Veteran, 16 years active duty, 4x combat tours, USAF Combat Search and Rescue, Special Operations Command, combat-related PTSD, combat-related injuries [VA Disability rating]. Once Casey learned about the situation he quickly, almost immediately, came to "rescue the rescue guy" and help move the semi truck to the new location. Casey makes no mention in the video of towing fees or how quickly he showed up to help once he learned of the circumstances. In true Casey-style fashion, he showed up as his normal, happy self ready to work and made quick work of the tow. Casey makes no mention of his efforts to help a disabled combat veteran in a jam and that fact is quite central to the overall story. Casey quickly helped a combat veteran in a jam who otherwise had no clear solution to the problem. What Casey treats and presents as an easy and routine job for him, changed the situation entirely for a combat veteran in a real pickle of a situation.
I hope Casey gets enough views and likes on this video to help recoup his uncovered expenses associated with helping a combat veteran in a jam.

Comes as no surprise to me, Casey is 100% “good guy” modest and no frills.

Keep making the videos for us, your doing an outstanding job at it. Really love the charity work you do also. Thank You Casey for helping a fellow combat Vet. Thank You Sir for your service!
I sobered up while in the service. 35 years ago I read and learned early AAs when starting their Alano Clubs kept coming up with rules. Rule 42 (I could be wrong about the number) "Let's not take ourselves too Seriously"! Among my daily tools for sobriety, (as you can tell by my picture) I do not take myself too seriously. Mr. LaDelle I am glad I never needed your service when I drove OTR, but I do have a funny to share. When I'd leave my truck for a shower, I'd throw my saddlebags over my shoulder and head in to the truck stop. Not always but occasionally a fool would ask; "hey cowboy, where'd ya leave your horse?". My simple and mean reply; "he's at your house and when your wife can walk again can you ask her to take him home?"
Most times it got a laugh! Truckers have to have a great sense of humor and many men like being caught with a line they know is stupid. But, we all do it to break the boredom of a day's routine.
A BIG Thank You to all truck drivers doing a Thankless job while being told needlessly that they are number one in crude ways. Stay safe and keep the rubber side down.
With Love and Respect Casey, you are in my prayers

Little safety tip for you Casey that’ll hopefully help you in the future. When you were tying the rear tandem down on the Freightshaker to your truck I noticed that you don’t have a full wrap on the drum of your ratchet strap before you began cranking it down. Always get a full wrap on your ratchet drum before putting tension on the nylon. Without the full wrap the strap is only using the friction of a tiny steel cylinder to hold whatever the load is instead of the friction of the strap material itself. It didn’t fail on you this time it is only a matter of time before it does.
I made the mistake of taking a loaded flatbed that someone else had tied down without untarping it to check it all. It wasn’t much later that I learned how much of a mess a 3200lb pallet of crushed iron ore makes on the highway.
    Good luck to ya 👍

    • @AL4N.
      @AL4N. 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

This is non sense. Nothing worse than having to cut a strap because some hooligan wrapped the strap 15 times around the cylinder and the strap binds into the release handle.

    • @lewismocaby3646
      @lewismocaby3646 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

@@AL4N. Didn’t say anything about wadding up the drum with that much of the strap. Simply stated that not having a full wrap on the drum will allow the strap to slip. Rain and inclement weather are horrible multipliers that make such a thing even worse.
Started noticing the effects of this sort of thing after my Dad pointed it out to me while he was tying down a load on his flatbed 40 years ago. Without dragging the comment out before I have been on several trips with my buddy and his towing company to straighten up loads at the rest areas local to us with either his loader or my forklift. Been around trucking my entire life as my parents and each of Dads 4 brothers all have their own trucking companies scattered from Southern Illinois to California. It most certainly isn’t bogus information.
To add something to your point, I honestly think that the goons who ratchet that much onto the drum are the reason that warning labels should be removed from pretty well everything that could shorten the existence of those same goons. Firm believer that those goofballs and their offspring are a big contributor to the lack of common sense of so much of today’s generation. From where we are today looking forward there doesn’t seem to be much chance of that lack of common sense returning in the future. All we can do is to pass along helpful knowledge and tips to help those who are unaware no matter how it’s received. Just gonna do my best to not make things worse and possibly help if I’m able.

Clearly pulling the lift all the way in, then bumping it back out works - It might be worth putting a pin strip or piece of tape on the top that you can see as you are coming in. Get it in exactly the right place once and tape/sharpie/paint a mark. Then you know you have full rotation, and anywhere less than that limits it.
That looks like a great piece of kit - thanks for sharing it with us (and your community).

SNAZZY logo'd truck is certainly a
_stand_ _out_ , but they recall
FACES as well. You just made a
      friend & you're *marked* . They'll
be expecting more CHEX next time 😛.
CROWS are also known for their
      LOYALTY. They've been known to
      attack school-bullies who harass
kids who feed them , divebomb
      driveway carjackers & muggers
      ( of people who feed them ) , &
in 1 case that sticks in my mind , do figure-8's diving swoops
      between sidewalk pedestrians
      and a backyard / fence , alerting
the passersby to their elderly friend
who had passed-out in her backyard ,
out of sight ( & rescued by the EMT's )
So you may have just gained a
      bunch of _watchful_ _eyes_ over
you when yer in that neck o' the woods 🙂 . GOOD KARMA .

Casey, I was blown away when I first worked on a 1915 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost at a restoration shop in the UK and found they are fitted with what looks like a copper syringe on the dash, it was a full lube system that with a couple of pumps, it lubed everything! and I mean everything! 1915 and they were building vehicles to last, not engineered to fail!!!
