    Hey guys , this is my dad (the one on piano and playing the flute) Rob Woodward. And my nan the older lady on piano Hilda Woodward. She is no longer with us ATM , the last words out of her mouth before she died was mouldy old dough. It reminds me of her and I miss her dearly it's so nice to see the lovely comments on here. It would have made my nan so proud xxx

    This track was played on the public address system at Oldham Athletic home games in 1972-73, and for many years afterwards. Utterly naff, yet utterly unforgettable, if you see what I mean.

      Yes, I'm a Bolan fan! Oldham were in the old Div 3 in 1972-73, and we won the divisional championship in 73-74. I no longer go to matches, but I believe 'Mouldy Old Dough' is still played before the kick-off at home games.

      @Bad Lieutenant
      Same as you, I gave up on football many years ago for similar reasons.
      Bolton were not the most entertaining team ever to win Div 3, but they were a very strong and well organized side under Jimmy Armfield in 72-73. I was at Boundary Park on 6 January 1973 in a crowd of almost 20,000 when we beat the Wanderers 2-0, and by the end of the month we were top of the division, two points ahead of Bournemouth and three points clear of Bolton.
      Sadly the pressure got to us, and we began to struggle, but we were still in with a mathematical chance of promotion in the final game of the season, but had to settle for fourth place after a 1-1 draw at Blackburn.

    I remember seeing this on Top of the Pops way back in 1972 ! I also remember that plastic pigeon, the tin whistle intro and the use of two pianos. A UK #1 in September that year. They had follow up later that same year with Desperate Dan which peaked at # 17 and then Lt Pigeon flew off into obscurity never to be heard again:

    This is such a cool & wacky little tune. It's the kind of song you hear once and it sticks in your head the whole day. It's sad that this song failed to even chart here in the U.S. after achieving such great success elsewhere. Just goes to show how out of step we can be here in the U.S. at times. And it's not as if novelty songs weren't charting in the U.S. in 1972 either. Both Chuck Berry's "My Ding-A-Ling" and Hot Butter's "Popcorn" were both huge hits here that year. If we could sing along with a man playing with his ding-a-ling, we certainly could've enjoyed some mouldy old dough.
