I’m a lifeguard. There were two paddle boarders within 50 feet of him. Not to be insensitive, but both of them should have seen him struggling and him go under. It’s very sad and this shouldn’t have happened. RIP man ❤🙏

This is exactly what has been running through my head on repeat. People on shore even told the paddleboarder he was in trouble but they didn’t do anything. I think it will haunt me for a long time.

I don’t think you need to be a lifeguard to understand that.
Obviously the lifeguards didn’t seem him… which is devastating but none the less I think it’s obvious if they did they would have reacted…
I’m sure they feel absolutely devastated by what happened.
It looks obvious to people at home but they simply didn’t notice it… it’s tragic but I don’t get all the people at home saying how obvious it was.. it clearly wasn’t from their vantage point or obviously they would have done something

@@Fhshaoaksbd I don't know what point you're trying to make. Saying that they simply "didn't notice him" is not an excuse when their job is specifically to spot someone who is struggling and offer assistance.
Say someone comes into the emergency department with chest pain, and they note they have had acid reflux before. If you're the doctor and assume they just have heartburn and send them home with Tums, and they die because you didn't run any tests and they were actually having a heart attack, aren't you responsible? No, you didn't intentionally let that person die, but you didn't do all the things you should've done. If these "lifeguards" had been closer, had kept all the swimmers in view, and had taken the concerns coming from the crowd more seriously, there's a good chance this man would still be alive.
If their "vantage point" was the problem, they simply should've found a different vantage point.

No one has the evidence they need to make a determination on what happened.
Everyone believes whole heartedly they know but they simply don’t have the evidence they believe with such religious fervor that the do.
A thousand spectators watched the event right at the finish line where it happened. Lifeguards meters away from where it happened noticed nothing.
Every keyboard warrior watching the livestream with the magic of hindsight thinks it was so obvious…. But it was not obvious to a thousand people that where standing right there at the finish line watching them come in.
1 fan jumped in the water and may 1 or 2 people next to him noticed but people need to stop acting like it was so obvious and CrossFit murdered someone blah blah blah put away the pitchforks and actually have some grace, understanding and patience. Only 17 seconds of silence to reflect on the memories we hold dear and let's get out? This just seems like a way for CF to get more money from media content. I'm usually a positive person, but when I think CF will get it this time and it's not possible to disappoint more, they make stuff like this. They have created an amazing community of athletes and friends that are fierce competitors and then love each other "off the field" and they always find a way to drop the ball or screw things up. How many times does CrossFit corporate let us down? A lot. We should demand more from the leaders of this community. Lazar deserved much more than 17 seconds.
