So it’s too much to have All the athletes walk in with a CrossFit shirt with name / number on it and one at a time place it on Lazars nameplate at the finish line as a send off.,? It could have had so much more meaning and could have been so beautiful 😢
Y’all are really terrible. You’re acting like it wasn’t YOUR fault he died. Take some accountability. He didn’t die of his own accord or natural causes, he died because of YOU and your negligence. This should rightfully be the END of the CrossFit games.
I'm very appalled at how this is presented, too. Castro's "I am sorry" was beyond misplaced. Lazar passed away. No he died because nobody was guarding his life !!!
A man lost his life doing a sport he loved. He was a light, a spotlight in a dark room and you cannot provide a video or anything better than this? This is what is shown, parading the athletes; brother; and partner out for 20 seconds of silence.. this is embarrassing. I pray for peace and closure for his family. CrossFit should be ashamed, and prosecuted to the fullest extent. Protection for the athletes is a must and it’s a shame it took this to realize it for them.
Give them time. This just happened and everyone is grieving. I’m certain that cf and those involved will have a proper tribute beyond this gesture as soon as they are able to put together something worthy of honoring Lazar.
That was abysmal. They could've had the athletes in a jersey with Lazar's name on it, showed an open lane on the floor in his honor, maybe pull the media team to do an all nighter and put together a a highlight reel?? Literally anything more than just showing his brother crying and a brief moment of silence preceded by buzzwords.
100000000% agree with you. CrossFit should’ve been literally up all night preparing a video reel and creating special Lazar jerseys, or even adding a Lazar patch to the current ones, for all athletes to wear. New words should’ve been spoken, not regurgitated words from the first paragraph of the email. I’m ashamed of CrossFit.
If they had pulled an all nighter creating a new shirt for everyone, you would've complained that it wasn't the right color and that they should've all had matching shoes with his initials on them.
@@hypnotic512 Nope. I appreciate you attempting to speak on my behalf but I would have said that in my original post if I had thought that was good. Congratulations Crossfit ! Not only a man lost his brother 60 yards from the shore because of your insufficient safety measures but in addition, you show his grief on camera to all the world like being on a reality show . SHAME ON YOU .
Imagine dedicating your life to CrossFit, to get that in your memory. A montage of his life, career, those with kind words on social media… anything… you should be ashamed.
Concerned for the athletes today who aren’t in their normal headspace, feels a bit like continued negligence on the part of CrossFit Inc. This is not the CrossFit I signed up to be a part of 15 years ago…not for a while now.
Does the lack of a fitting tribute to Lazar by the CrossFit Games surprise anyone? They have created an amazing community of athletes and friends that are fierce competitors and then love each other "off the field" and they always find a way to drop the ball or screw things up. How many times does CrossFit corporate let us down? A lot. We should demand more from the leaders of this community. Lazar deserved much more than 17 seconds. Should have showered the arena with love and shown what a great person he was. Way to let us down CrossFit!
To the people complaining about the tribute, dont you think its possible they consulted the family at this point, including his brother, and this is what they wanted?
According to a news source they did it. They said, they consulted Lazar’s family to see what they wanted that’s why they decided yesterday to continue with the games. At least two different sources said so.
RIP. This is what happens when corporations prioritize money over safety and security. You will be held accountable Dave. And to all athletes that voted to resume the games- what a disappointment. All things aside, it is clear overall safety protocols is a real issue and that time needs to be taken to perform a third party review. When incidents of this magnitude happen (especially that of gross negligence), time is always taken to assess the safety and security situation. And most importantly, authentic grieving needs to happen for the family- not this performative half-assed shit. ALL CROSSFIT GAMES GOING FORWARD SHOULD BE DEDICATED TO HIM, NOT JUST THIS WEEKEND! WTF!!!
They clearly cut costs in camerawork and support staff. Didn’t see paramedics or divers supporting the swimmers. Long range drone shots didn’t give any indication of where people were. This was criminal safety cuts. He was clearly in distress, from taking cap off to changing strokes when he’s a professional freestyler. He wasn’t supported at all.
@@RogueCylonyep, the video from their very own stream made all of it very clear. The investigation is going to be damning. Justice needs to be served to finally put Dave and CrossFit org in check, and ultimately protect all athletes going forward.
@@rburkoutdoors247 I am not questioning if they want to compete or not, my question is how? How can they give 100% after this? It seems impossible to me. This is the reason for my question
Crossfit as a business might go on freefall for a while after this. A lot of safety concerns for the athletes. My thoughts and prayers go towards the community and the Ðukić family 😢
Probably an unpopular take, I was expecting a video tribute as well, but seeing the pain on the faces just in those few moments, maybe the family and athletes aren’t ready to handle an emotional video yet and could have sent them over the edge. I’m sure one will be made, but I can also understand if it’s too soon.
I just found out what a tragedy happened. Lazar Dukic-You Will Always Be With Us! I wonder if this had happened in Russia, what kind of scandal the world community would have thrown, accusing it of all mortal sins. They would have canceled the competition and banned Russia from holding other competitions. And here, everything is as usual.
Even the filming on Rust didnt carry on the next day when Alec Baldwin shot that lady. Negligence (not having eyes on every competitor in the water) is not the same as 'accident'.
Sure looks to me like it was special and significant to Luka. The armchair QBs can relax. I'm sure ya'll will find enough to criticize CF about going forward. It doesn't have to fit what you think.
I don’t want to say anybody can handle this situation, but as a community we can! Make CrossFit split the price money evenly to competitors who have no other job, make them use a good third of it to help the family and make them use the rest as a start to pay professional lifeguards on site. Taking ownership for something like that is hard, but as CrossFit community we constantly talk about standards and high quality in everything, so let’s proof that. We can do better….
Descansa en paz Lazar. Que Dios te reciba en su presencia. Se que conociste a Jesús y nuestra esperanza está en tu espíritu está con el padre. It would be nice if the apparel sponsors could create merchandise ( T shirts) in honour of this great athlete, that the world could buy. That way he can be remembered by all that wear it and all that see it. All proceeds would go to the Dukic family or foundation.
Shame on you... 😢😢😢
I am completely devastated.
This is the last video I will ever watch of CrossFit Games Organization. What a disgusting and anti- ethical place.
What happened was a crime.
Continuing the games is the most disrespectful act they could ever do.
This was the tribute?
How embarrassing and what a shame.
Just holding the camera onto Luka showing him cry and no speech by the officials?
I can’t believe it!
RIP LAZAR. YOU WILL BE MISSED
Your abject cynicism is embarrassing.
Keep complaining buddy. It will take you far in life
What would you have them do? They can't go back and change what happened.
Cancel the event? What does that accomplish?
Make a video tribute? You'd be saying the same thing.
It's easy to criticize when you don't have to do anything, make any of the decisions, or respond to an unprecedented tragedy in Crossfit history.
@@brewerk17 it's a troll
@@brewerk17 have you seen Castro talking before the event? Really bad and absolutely fake. They made huge mistakes and by that a person died. Absolutely horrible and such as short „tribute“ pays no respect. It’s all about the money and keeping the business going.
VERY BAD
In my opinion, this was an appropriate event for those attending or participating at the games who are living the real grief and trauma. We armchair viewers can find plenty of extended video tributes in our own time without forcing athletes, family, fans (and organisers) to parade their pain and grief for an extended period just to satisfy our desire for a live-stream spectacle.
Thank you
Well worded!
Well said.
Incredibly well said 🙏💜 All the negativity I've seen won't bring Lazar back. We need to hold each other close and remember the kindness Lazar radiated 💔 May he rest in peace and rise in glory...
I was there in the crowd, it felt just right as it felt too soon for anything more. 😢
Condolences to Lazar's Family & Loved ones...SAD day for all involved...
Guys, stop with all the criticism and pointing fingers. Honor Lazars death with peace.
May he rest along side God.
Se esperaba más de la organización para homenajear al atleta fallecido! La competencia debería cancelarse.
19 seconds for a moment of silence?! That’s way too short.
They should have consulted you. What were they thinking?
@@jasoncatarino6110 At least 1 minute and a tribute video. CrossFit Butcher’s Lab did great waiting 1 minute before starting event 1
Dont be a prick@@jasoncatarino6110
Lazar Dukic, un inmemorable Atleta. Quedaras en nuestros recuerdos como una GLADIADOR de las Arenas del CrossFit...Verdaderamente lo dejaste Todo !!!. Por siempre en nuestros Recuerdos. GRACIAS !!!
RIP Lazar. You are missed
The way Crossfit Inc. has dealt with this tragedy made me so sad. The show doesnt always has to go on. You speak about community, but you have just pronounced "dollars" wrong
This TRIBUTE is 15 minutes of NOTHING but an empty stadium. The Crossfit organization has NO RESPECT for this man or the incident!
What example are we setting here? No one from the top could say a few words? Dave, Boz, anyone? This is the moment we needed a voice we all know and respect. But with that said, this will always be remembered as Lazar's year not in a bad way but in the best way possible in we will respect his memory and how much he loved this sport the community, his family and his friends. I hope every athlete has a full heart on that starting line, knowing they are blessed to be there and give it a little extra for Lazar. May he rest in peace ❤
This is not about them. Don’t you get it?
@jasoncatarino6110 idk what or who you think I'm making it about. We are all human, and I know that we are looking to our community leaders like Dave to be our voice. We all want to honor the life of Lazar. That is what this weekend is going to be about. No hate, no blame, just one step forward at a time.
@@timmothyzapata9177 We can agree no hate, no blame. So don’t blame Dave, or Boz, or Don for not speaking. Nothing they would have said would change anything. That’s the point. They are giving people the space to feel their own emotions
Probably a gag order from their CF lawyers for all CF leadership to not talk to media on what happened as it can be used against them.
CROSSFIT KILLED HIM
That was it!!!!! He gave his life!!!!! I’m done with CrossFit. This company is ran by clowns.
Same. I’m done. Get the clowns out.
You two are the clowns. Get out! The athletes chose to continue.
Seemed an insult rather than any tribute. No work or preparation, just a brush off.
Tribute?? How disrespectful of you to film his brother and partner in pain. The tribute was just a PR strategy: Let's get his family and Castro behind them and make it look like we are just a big family.
His family is in shock. Let them be together as a family in peace!
Talking Elite Fitness has a great video 🖤
shame on you
počivaj u miru
RIP champ!!! you will never be forgoten
And Games must go on...damn 🫣
Toutes mes sincères condoléances à la famille, amis, proches.
Qu'il repose en paix...
Un modeste pratiquant de crossfit
@@hypnotic512 doubt it.
@@hypnotic512 Nope. I appreciate you attempting to speak on my behalf but I would have said that in my original post if I had thought that was good. Not exactly a new shirt when they have screen printing capabilities on site and already have the screens made with his last name on it for him and his brother. Simply more than a small speech.
Wasn’t even a silent minute, was 17 seconds
You’d been happy if it was a minute and that would have stopped you from making your cynical comment?
This moment was for him! Not the complaining and ridicule LD all the way ❤
In my opinion and talking to other fans the ceremony was a disappointment. Some fans made posters and were told they could not bring them in. So they cut it into pieces. The video made by Talking Elite Fitness should have been played.
Show some grace folks. Everyone is hurting. And everyone grieves differently. I choose to respect the choices of family, friends, the athletes, and Crossfit in this time of mourning. I pray for the family and the greater Crossfit family.
The organization has been extremely unprofessional and 100% responsible for his 100% preventable death. Gross negligence at best.
We will not be quiet as we lost a legend today due to CF being greedy as ever
Nah. We can grieve and ask necessary questions at the same time. This death should never have happened
No words from the organization? Simply pushing athletes onto the stage and a Minute of silence? That's all you got?
Literally what the hell? This is the best they could do? I’m not even competing and I feel insulted.
What's wrong with you people? The abject cynicism towards everything that crossfit does is the embarrassing part. You are embarrassing.
@@gunslinger2088 Stfu - explain wtf this was then, was a waste of time.

@CrimeCraftADHD if you have to ask "what this was" or assert that this gesture of a tribute to his life was a waste of time, there's nothing I can say that will make you realize how insensitive and cynical you are.
Looks like they cut it there. RIP Lazar - my goodness this is sad
CrossFit: doing the absolute bare minimum for athletes they “cared” about.
Disagree, it wouldn't be appropriate to do something longer at this time.
Who says it would be “inappropriate”?
What the world needs right now is another cynical poorly thought out comment from a random cretin on the internet
I can’t believe! No words cro$$fit shame!🤬
They had a day to prepare, calm down people.
look at the video on Talking Elite Fitness. They had less time and made a beautiful, short video.
It’s about more than a video. Everyone always has something negative to say and a better way to handle something.
Concerned for the athletes today who aren’t in their normal headspace, feels a bit like continued negligence on the part of CrossFit Inc. This is not the CrossFit I signed up to be a part of 15 years ago…not for a while now.
there is no way that was it, right??
Does the lack of a fitting tribute to Lazar by the CrossFit Games surprise anyone? They have created an amazing community of athletes and friends that are fierce competitors and then love each other "off the field" and they always find a way to drop the ball or screw things up. How many times does CrossFit corporate let us down? A lot. We should demand more from the leaders of this community. Lazar deserved much more than 17 seconds. Should have showered the arena with love and shown what a great person he was. Way to let us down CrossFit!
You don’t get it even a little bit and I can’t help you. You’re really helping the situation
They could have played Sebia national anthem
Yea, that matters right now
To the people complaining about the tribute, dont you think its possible they consulted the family at this point, including his brother, and this is what they wanted?
Exactly he should be the first and last mention at any crossfit event for the next years and always mentioned
Was 17 seconds, not even a silent minute.
I’m so confused…what happened to the tribute?
Whatever your expectations are/were...you need a better, more mature management team. Your Cynicism is fucking insane
You just saw it. There’s nothing more that needs to be said. The community came together and grieved together. The rest of the event will honor him
After the standing ovation and applause there were posts and condolences played on the big screen whilst they played a few sombre songs
and after this "tribute", are we supposed to cheer for the events? How? How are the athletes going to compete? Many of them are shattered...
@@rburkoutdoors247 I am not questioning if they want to compete or not, my question is how? How can they give 100% after this? It seems impossible to me. This is the reason for my question
Remember, a former Navy SEAL allowed this terrible standard of water safety. Fatal irony.
Crossfit as a business might go on freefall for a while after this. A lot of safety concerns for the athletes.
My thoughts and prayers go towards the community and the Ðukić family 😢
May his kind soul rest in peace🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
What the absolute hell is this?! You guys have reached an all time low. Now we all know what the athletes really mean to you.
They have to save money to be able to pay the upcoming lawsuit.
Folks. We as paying customers need to be the ones to band together and stop supporting. Completely.
I’m in.
Crossfit need to be held responsible along with the lifeguards involved!
Talking elite fitness had a better tribute than the so called CFHQ! These guys are way over there heads
Rest in Peace 🕊️
Talking Elite Fitness has already put together a beautiful video and this is what you come up with? 💔
Rip great man 🙏
Even the filming on Rust didnt carry on the next day when Alec Baldwin shot that lady. Negligence (not having eyes on every competitor in the water) is not the same as 'accident'.
I think the tribute starts at 14:10 , not sure why the first 14 minutes was included
Es increíble cómo todos se prestan a esto, puede más el CRO$$$$$$$$FIT que los valores. Sin duda les hace falta los valores de un ATLETA!
Rest in Peace 🙏🏻
Those lifeguards better get arrested. Wonder if they even knew how to swim or weren’t lifeguards at all, just there for show. Cuz how can everyone on shore see that something was wrong but not the people who’s ONLY job during the CrossFit games is to SAVE people from drowning, NOT see him struggling? Like, are they blind? This is so stupid. I hope Lazar’s sues them for all their worth. This was a preventable death. Complete negligence.
Bro acting like humans arent infallible. They weren’t robots. Pathetic armchair viewer always thinks they can do better.
Competitors start filing in at 14:14. Tribute starts at 16:23.
Reminds me of the Oven Hart tribute of years ago......
His brother is displaying incredible strength.
Came out today that Luka told Castro directly that he didn’t want to be on camera during the tribute. Fuck CrossFit.
that's all???
No, that’s not all. The entire weekend is a tribute to him. Peace and love but stop rushing to judgement
