    Question: do you get model releases from the subjects/people in order to sell the prints of them?

    • @street4japan
      @street4japan ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Would definitely need such releases in Japan if you want avoid dealing legal trouble. I try to avoid recognizable shots of persons for this reason if I might sell the shot. I am sure tourists can get away with taking candid shots since it might be more difficult to send a cease and desist letter to someone who has gone back overseas. That said, I have sent such letters to overseas bloggers, and website developers for using my images without a license.

    Great video! Im curious, how were you able to market your prints and personal projects? You mentioned galleries, photobooks, etc, how were you able to get a gallery to hold your exhibition, find people to buy your prints and photobooks, etc. Was it mostly stuff like tiktok or did you have other means?

    • @BryanBrock_
      @BryanBrock_  ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Great questions! I use Instagram to promote and market most of my stuff. I have a relatively small audience, but they love to support. In terms of galleries, there’s usually only two options for someone at my level (not known in the art world). Option 1 - rent a gallery space and host your own event. Option 2 - Gallery takes a commission on all print sales. As for photo books, I collaborated with a photographer in NYC and that exposed me to a whole new group of people. Long story short, build a community who genuinely supports you and your work (easier said than done). ✌️

    Cool video. How do you handle release forms? My understanding is legally a photographer should also obtain signed releases from any recognizable person in the photograph, not just the main subject if used for commercial purposes. Larger groups or gatherings might be okay under editorial laws. Granted this is different depending on what country you live in.

    • @BryanBrock_
      @BryanBrock_  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Jay! Most commercial projects have release forms, but when it comes to street photography that would be next to impossible to implement. Hi man, I am a delivery driver and I want to do a street photographer while driving around. If I want to make money on those photos, the only way is print them out? Cannot do vlog or tiktok while driving because I would be fire right away. So only do a "truck photographer" . Can you give some advice?

    when you sell prints involving people, do you get them to sign image release? How does it work for instance the Hawaii one with the friends carrying the board or the person sitting on the bench?

      Hey Raymond! I don’t currently use release forms for street photography.

    Great video. I love the honest approach you bring to the subject. I was curious, what social media format were you on when you were asked about selling your work? I was hoping to start selling pictures as well. Do you think a market exists for monochrome images?

      Thanks Rocky! Most of my print sales have been black and white photos. People usually reach out on Instagram or they text me. Hope that helps dude!

      Thanks for watching Rebecca! Every walk is a little different. I try to explore basic practices like composition, storytelling, “shooting from the hip”, how to approach people, etc. If you have some time watch my community photo walk videos for a better idea of what I do. Enjoy! 📷

    Hello, thank you for the video, it gives hope! I am doing street photography as well and I post them on instagram, but I don't get any offer. I suspect that instagram is not the best place to post them, any advice on that? I am wondering if I should create my own website...

    • @BryanBrock_
      @BryanBrock_  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Instagram is definitely not the best. I don’t know what is, but having a personal website and online shop is always a good look. The majority of my sales come from my website. Hope that helps! Good luck

    Is this something that someone without an established community base can do?

    • @BryanBrock_
      @BryanBrock_  ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question. It may be hard to sell a product without an established audience, but all it takes is that one person who's interested in your work and you're on your way. Slowly but surely as they say.

      I don't use a flash very often with my Q2, but when I do it's the super small FujiFilm EF-X20.

    Did you have to get model waivers from all the people that appear in your photos?

    • @BryanBrock_
      @BryanBrock_  ปีที่แล้ว

      For commercial work there is usually a model waiver. I don't use model waivers for street photography. If I have a conversation with someone I may ask for permission. I also like to send the photos to the people who I talk to as a form of appreciation. Hope that helps!

    Is it legal to sell photos with people in it without their release forms?

    • @BryanBrock_
      @BryanBrock_  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You have to see if street photography is legal in your country/city. If it's legal, than there should be no issues with selling the images. Always good to double check!

    • @BryanBrock_

      Hey Filip! Freelance is one of those tricky things no matter what industry you're in. What's worked for me is a balance of both reaching out to people (in person, emails or DM's) and people reaching out to me. One thing that seems to gain attention (which inevitably leads to work) is when I produce my own projects and invest in myself. You never know who's watching! Last thing I can add is that the larger your network the easier it is to get a referral, or know somebody that knows somebody who's looking for a creative to hire. Hope that helps dude! Peace.

    • @zverinafilip
      @zverinafilip ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BryanBrock_ Yeaah, I thought so. The thing I'm missing out on the most is the freakin network as I moved to quite a remote location couple years ago and it definitely does me good in many ways but people I miss the most, talking about the same interests, visiting exhibition, even parties..Time for change I guess. PS: Thanks for your answer Bryan.
