      Folks need to stop acting like Wilt had no competition. He faced Willis Reed, Nate Thurmond, Bill Russell, and eventually Kareem. Bill alone often put the clamps on Wilt, often enough to land 11 rings, but Wilt was STILL dominant as a player.

    Simply comparing FG percentages lacks any sort of context. Max is right about controlling for certain variables-though he was having a tough time articulating as much-such as pace of play, league efficiency metrics, and even some accolades. It’s like saying that dropping 30 when the leagues top defense has a defensive rating of 108.5 is no different than dropping 30 when the leagues top defenses posted ratings of 90.

    Hakeem Olajuwon is very underrated in this debate, this dude was scoring through double teams and triple teams in his prime on a regular basis. He could score inside or out when I say out I mean particularly from mid range. His handles, footwork, agility and speed was incredible for someone his height at around 7ft, he moved like an elite 2 guard while at the same time he played like an elite through big. He had an elite post game and an elite faceup game with so many moves and moves to counter, he knew how to keep the defense guessing. He was a very clutch scorer too. He shot around 71% from the foul line for his career that's pretty good for a center.

Especially when you consider Kobe missed a full year with the torn Achilles. It’s like saying Jordan and Kobe are the same era, there were years of overlap but the leagues changed so much midway through both players careers.

      To an extent. Defense is still relative to the era’s skill set. You put Rodman, GP, Pippen in today’s game against Steph, Kyrie, KD, I’d argue that they’d wouldn’t “clamp” them. The players today are soooo skilled that it’s hard for defense to keep up. You put Pat Bev, Kawhi, Jrue Holiday, Marcus Smart in Jordan’s era, they’d fit in defensively. So now realize that these guys are in today’s game, it shows you that offensively gifted players would thrive in any era. And there is no era with more offensively gifted players than today.

      Other stars in then last seasons were playing much less minutes because they understood it was beneficial for their team. Lebron is scoring like a first option and his team is a losing team for that same reason. I mean, Carmelo was scoring 13 points a game in 20 minutes, if you have him the green light and all the touches he wanted, he would avg like 24 points a game, of course his team would lose all the time but the same is happening with Lebron.

    • @SanchezBrown13
      @SanchezBrown13 ปีที่แล้ว

      @airgordo4 of course they're considered points, but they're also the easiest shots too make, and offer an large advantage depends on your size. The bigger you are, the significantly easier it is to score around the basket. Which is why bigs lead the league in field goal percentage so often. Tyson Chandler holds like the top 3 seasons for field goal percentage in NBA history, we certainly wouldn't call him a better scorer than LeBron. Bron has an advantage in shots around the basket over Kobe, and also takes a lot more shots around the basket than Kobe did. That's due to his size. Ability to shoot is the ability to knock down the shot. If you got 10 players and put them under the basket and asked them to shoot 100 shots with no defense, every single player would make 100. I would probably make 100. As you pull further from the basket, those shots get more difficult.

      @airgordo4 that's not what I said at all. Everybody and anybody can play consistently. Consistency has nothing to do with the FACT that his size allows him to get more attempts around the rim. And shots around the rim are significantly easier to knock down. Again, like I just said, Tyson Chandler holds NBA records for field goal percentage because all his attempts came around the rim. Is he a better scorer than LeBro??

    • @airgordo4
      @airgordo4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SanchezBrown13 Tyson Chandler also does nothing else aside from that. LeBron averages more points in the regular season, more points in the playoffs, has more career points, a higher TS%, passed Kobe in scoring on less shots. would Tyson Chandler be a better scorer than Bron if he was getting 30 a night over is career at that same percentage? Absolutely. But no Tyson Chandler at 8ppg isn’t even in the same stratosphere and bringing him up in the context of this discussion is silly.
      Even ignoring all that Kobe is like 3% better on midrange shots, and LeBron 2% better on threes which are worth an extra point. LeBron takes less than 2 of those 10-16’ shots per game on his career. So Kobe at 3% better is literally like LeBron making 4-5 extra shots a season from that range. But some people are acting like that surpasses the fact that Bron had scored more, averages more, has a better TS%, better playoff average, passed Kobe on less shots, and has a higher scoring rate per shot attempt... again, it makes no sense.

A superb assessment in a moment upon which many who aren't historians or objective in their opinion,caught up emotionally into current events ,ie Lebron securing goat scoring title aren't willing to acknowledge rationally the achievement of others properly. I'm a huge Lebron fan ,but I'm objective,he's not yet quite better then Kareem , Russell,Jordan . Final note , Kareem Abdul Jabaar was far more offensively then a sky hook ,prime years athletically 1970 -76 which can be googled Kareem prime years 70--76 ,you will see cross over ,pull up and turnaround jumpers ,sky hook with both hands ,back to basket reverse spin to rim ,sprint full court for uncontested dunks ,because no center could keep up with him . Kareem Abdul Jabaar had the full offensive package ,which set up his skyhook ,great defender ,rebounder ,superb passer ,quiet savant team leader . Many fans of NBA basketball who are in their 40's didn't really see Kareem until he was in his early to mid 30's so their process of him isn't astute . ESPN and national sports media also inadvertently damaged his reputation because the only photo they constantly showed of him was him delivering the skyhook .That's like only showing Jordan or Lebron dunking . honestly this is one of the most subective takes there can be, what defines a great scorer?? their scoring avg?? their efficiency?? their scoring titles??? etc. Every ppl had their own criteria to establish what a great scorer is, mine personally is the moves and countermoves you had in your bag, for that reason i like more kobe, michael jordan, durant, hakeem olajuwon than lebron james. In my eyes they are better scorers cuz their bag is huge. When im trying to use plays whenever im playing i watch videos of those players so i can use those moves, never have i done it with lbj. No knock to lebron, lebron stans as i said this is completely subjective, if you think lebron is the best scorer thats fine, thats a valid take as well.

    • @gabe8876
      @gabe8876 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah, but isnt that more talking of "skills". like all those player that you named are skilled with the ball, thats why they have a deep bag. But others are not as skilled but are just as deadly, like LBJ. LBJ is not as skilled as KD, but if he wants, he can score just as much.
      Also, the greatest scorer has to have all the things you mentioned (scoring avg, efficiency, titles., etc...), thats why jordan is the best pure scorer, then maybe followed by KD
