@@hatesitrick That's exactly the reason I want the rounded pockets. We sometimes play 8 and 9 ball on a ten foot snooker table, so I am familiar with how unforgiving the rounded English pockets play. They force a level of focus that I find rewarding (and frustrating).
I'd think that statistically, it's rare to see him miss on any table. But every player that ever lived does it. One of the beauties of pool is that a decent player can make 90% or more of all the shots that a master can, only not as often.
Pool tables tend to ware out a lot faster than snooker tables. Thus are subject to bad roles and thunderous kicks to boot. That's why you either need to spend time rolling the cueball around the table to learn how to compensate for this, or like here play firmer shots so balls have less chance to deviate off line. Since Davis is used to playing on perfect tables. He won't have taken any of this into account. Which is which why he tried to gently roll in his opening shot.
@@Mitjitsu I think you're right. I used to play bar league in New York and when I'd come across a really bad table, I'd bang them in and was very successful with that strategy. There were bar league players that played 8 and out the majority of the time. I wasn't that good.
Is Steve the one in the black shirt? If so, congratulations, Steve! Really good! (P.S. I'm an American, so I'm kind of new to this variation of 8-ball. Steve Davis was the guy that missed the first Yellow, not the one in blue T-shirt who cleared up the reds 😀 The main difference between UK and American Pool is the table, ball and pocket sizes! Also note that in UK pool, the cue ball is smaller than the object ball unlike American, where all the balls are equal size!

That's the thing with the English pool game.... It's simply NOT the same as snooker. Anyone who can pot a few balls can win a game. It's great fun as a leveller, but alas, its just not as complicated, taxing or as fun as snooker......
@@djiminitraveller nice to have it on camrea, i did a very similar clearance against Daz Ward when he was world uk champion and i was 14 at his exibition. about 24 years ago. lol

You played great. I've never seen the Nugget on an English pool table. But that five seconds or so was awesome.
@Stu Marsh Well, great compared to me. We can't all be Ross McInnes. Or Stu Marsh. Are you Craig's dad?
@Stu Marsh Yeah, Craig Marsh is a great player
Great finish, well taken 👌
Well done buddy. You held your nerve, and position, when the pressure was on.
7 nuggets left on the table!
Rumour has it Steve is still chalking his cue to this day 😆
Quickest I’ve seen Steve play
Steve was the one that lost.
I asked Steve for his autograph at prestatyn tournament late 70s when I was a kid. I had a pencil. Steve said can't you afford a pen 😊
The title is misleading…should be Steve Davis watching 8-Ball pool!😂

A frame where he plays one shot really sums up the man, jeez.
"Who's the real champion?" Ha Ha well done mate
Great stuff lads

Don’t like the size of the table but the ball colors are genius.
Yeah i never understand why people use spots and stripes for 8 ball...so much easier to see the sets when they're different colours.
I played him in 2018 January in Cork
Would love to find a table like that in the US.
