Legend of Legia is a game I will always keep in my inventory. I Love the Voice Lines . Some of the first i ever heard in video games growing up. THE COMBAT OMG always has me on the edge of my seat. And the Story... makes me cry every time
Yes, super memorable combat system is such an overkill even after 25 years a.k.a a quarter century! Great storyline with cute facial character expressions and voiceovers along with nice music. I replayed Legaia and finished it recently with mostly 100% achievement except the level (I got Evil Talisman with that infamous glitch)
A nice little sequel to Legaia 1 would be good! Probably "Legaia 3: Return of the Mist" or something like that. It would involve Cort who was born as a baby after the events of Legaia 1. When Cort was born, all civilization in Rim Elm migrated to Conkram to re-build that city - abandoning Rim Elm completely in the process. And even though Juggernaut was broken apart at the end of Legaia 1, its spirit somehow survived. Therefore Cort's mother Noa was able to keep its spirit sealed in the form of a magic talisman and hope to never use it again. During Cort's childhood, he would take a strong interest in learning Biron and other martial arts. Then at age 25 at his home in Conkram, Cort would be warned that a new Mist would begin to form in the abandoned Rim Elm and become widespread quickly while governed by a new mysterious villain that no one knows. Luckily, this new Mist has NO effect on anyone exposed to it, but to all of Legaia the Mist itself is still quite a bad memory. Cort would have to put all of his skills to the test with a new kind of magic, as he embarks on an adventure to travel the world backwards toward Rim Elm and put an end to the Mist once again. Not to mention, a new megabeast, Supernaut (Super Juggernaut), would also come out in this newly-formed Mist, making it an even bigger threat toward all of Legaia. This means Noa has no choice but to allow her son Cort to wear the magic talisman and start using it to aid in casting regular spells. Cort would have to progress in the game and visit all three shrines (Meta, Terra, and Ozma) in order to unlock the sealed spirit of Juggernaut and start using its powerful magic. A game like that would be interesting!
I love your ideas for the story but I'll point out that the Seru-Kai was already destroyed when the Great Genesis Tree was sucked dry by Songi leaving the Ra-Seru to die by the end of Legend of Legaia. So getting the help of of Meta, Terra and Ozma to unlock the of the Evil Talisman is not gonna work story wise.
Perhaps the programmers can explain that before Cort was defeated, he once programmed Juggernaut to function as normal magic even without the existence of the Seru powers.
@@dkillalegend Highly unlikely, since Juggernaut operates with the help of the mist. Cort could bring it back but we all know that he was reborn when Vahn and the party defeated the merged Cort and Juggernaut. Could he perhaps have his previous memories maybe but the Rouge is already defeated as well, with the death of the Great Genesis Tree all of the Ra-Seru died along with it. Without Ra-Seru to power a Mist Generator, Juggernaut would be rendered useless since its massive body heavily relies on Mist to move. Also no new Juggernaut is ever gonna be made since Saryu immediately stops it once he is freed from the control of the Sim-Seru. Those are just my points, how the devs gonna continue the story is gonna be hard with all that happened in Legend of Legaia.
I will forever remember Legend of Legaia.. Mostly because I accidentally OTK'd the final boss as a kid when I was going through my list of "What if I need this for the final boss?!" items and used the red card on them.
@GameCircleTv Sadly I never got the chance to play the second one. I didn't know it was even a thing till stumbling upon it one day at a gamestop almost 18 years ago, but it was gone when I finally had the funds to go and try to buy it.

I absolutely loved the game we got and still do but a shame *Sony* ruined Hidemori's original vision. I recall reading that he had attempted to get a third game off the ground over the years and that it would have expanded upon the lore the original Legend of Legaia laid out; thus ignoring whatever Legaia 2: Duel Saga was about. It would have been a prequel set in the past putting more focus on the origins of the Mist as well as the Ra-Seru. A shame we'll likely never get a new game but who knows. If anything does happen, be it remaster/remake/sequel/prequel or whatever, that it's connected with the first game and its characters. 🥰
Thank you for the retrospective. These games were a big part of my childhood. Appreciate you bringing attention to them again and highlighting why they didn’t receive more sequels. While I felt Legaia 2 was very different story wise, I didn’t know it was because they fired the main writer due to creative differences. A tragic end to a great series.
@@GameCircleTv My other favorite RPG on the PS1 was The Legend of Dragoon. While I think it was bit more well known why that game didn’t receive a sequel, it was a great game with a grand scope nonetheless.

A lot has been said about the arts and magic systems of the game but the most interesting part of the game to me was that your characters had a certain position in the map and depending on where the foe is when the character attacks and where you end up if they attack you you could move all around the battle area.
Many years ago my cousin rented me Legend of Legaia on the PS 1 when I visited them. Well I played the game and instantly bought it when I got back home. It was incredible everytime I pushed random directions and found a new secret spell
As a huge fan of Lennus/Paladin's Quest and its alien fantasy setting and worldbuilding, I'll never get over the fact that Shibao didn't get the chance to realize a third Lennus game that would take place on Raiga. Legaia at least felt like it had some closure with the resolution of the Seru situation, though a direct sequel with Noa as a central character would have also been great
I have both games. *Love* the 1st one. Just re-played it over a year ago. The 2nd one I don't care for as much. I love how the 1st game focuses only on the 3 characters. It's much easier to focus ONLY on them & leveling their spells. I also like the simplicity of the story, and how its plot stays on focus. I'd love to see Sony at least put this on PSN, maybe even remaster it. Unfortunately, now that they hired Jim Ryan, Sony's focus is mainly on AAA games. Big mistake, IMO. It'll catch up to 'em.

The Legaia and Shadow Hearts series are my 2 favorite underdogs of the RPG world. At least we are getting a spiritual successor to SH with Penny Blood, but a Legend of Legaia remaster would be awesome.
wow that gives so much insight into why this game ended up in the nether. The first game is such a trailblazer and unsung hero. It was a great game with a solid story. I really liked the second one, but I can see why he hated it knowing what I know now. Wow. Go play this game if you haven't! Personally, I thought 2 had a better story, but everyone should experience the first one.
This is 1 of my favorites game in ps1 including legend of the lagoon, and twisted metal small brawl, classic never dies, i played all of that again when i bought psp 3000, and this time i am searching if theres a way i would play this in steamdeck or switch, and good news yeah there it is, i hope theres a chance to get remaster version of this 3l games. I remember when i was 7 or 8 yrs of age i am watching my older brother playing legend of legaia, when he finish the game i decided to try playing this game but i didnt finish the game because tried to upgrading from ps1 to ps2 we planned to sell our ps1 to get money to buy ps2 but suddenly we devided the money to 3 me,my older brother and my oldest brother, and since im the youngest i get small amount of money and bcos of that i cried a lot 😅 but i get a ps2 as a gift, bcos my nephew and his mother got petition by my brother abroad and my nephews ps2 gift to me, Then when i get older i save money to buy my psp but i only bought 2nd hand 😅 then i finish all that games ☺️ this game makes my childhood more fun and much memorable.

Legaia 1 is a much better game but legaia 2 isn't bad. For example the monster design in legaia 1 is much better and scarier. The story is also quite dark, remember when we first arrive at noa home only to find petrified zombie(?) That is in constant pain, that is just stuff of nightmare. The music in legaia 1 is just masterpiece and legaia 2 fail to deliver the same quality like the first game but again legaia 2 isn't bad. I still play both and still had a good time playing both games. The sequel have some pros too : - combat is much better - camping/cooking/crafting - character interaction in camping/in the town is hilarious and awesome (Just to name a few) If I were in charge making the third game I would just combined what's good about the first game and the second game and also add my own content in there. The game gameplay is very unique and I don't see why they won't make another game but I'm curious how much they would sell the game license
legaia 2 always felt off to me and i replayed the LoL like 30 times by now. legaia 2 was still fun because it was so broken, as a kid it was quite hard, but as a grown up it was very easy to exploit most mechanics. also the biggest thing in legaia 2 was the trinket crafting.. ITS INSANE how much you can combine, you can get like very overpowered ENDGAME trinkets right at the start if you know what you are doing, spent at least 100 hours only in trinket crafting, then quitting the game because i was too overpowered lol.
Shit I quit it because the grinding was too harsh when I started meeting instant death enemies in the volcano, I guess I should retry with a more thorough attention to the features.
Legaia 1 is my most memorable games, it was the 1st time I try RPG and love it ever since. Yeah I dissapointed with sequel tho with the same reasons that you mentioned. For the future, I prefer the developer to remake the 1st one than to create the 3rd, since I think many of us still replay this game over and over again. It can follows the success of Resident Evil or Final Fantasy 7 remakes.
@@GameCircleTv Nah, keep the turn based, coz Legaia has unique turn based that we can't find in other RPGs. Other than that they can develop the graphics, mini games, add some sub-stories, hidden bosses (like Lapis), which is lacked in the 1st. Ow I like the magic system that extracted from enemies skills too, similar like FF 7 materia system.
Legend of Legaia is my favorite game of all time. It needs to be released on the PlayStation store and have them fix the Conkram glitch. I wish they would give it a proper remake of the original like what was done for Xenoblade Chronicles. “Legend of Legaia Definitive Edition.” I bought Legaia 2: Duel Saga when it first released and ended up returning it. I gave it a second chance years later and enjoyed it but still liked the original better. I own both on discs. It’s best played on a backwards compatible PS3 with smoothing turned on. 24 years after first playing Legaia and it’s still my favorite game.
Well it's a modified version of the Hurricane Kick from Street Fighter. She learns The Hyper Art attack through a Wind Book III, dropped by Lu Delilas after defeating her in battle. Mostly I think it's just an inspiration from the Hurricane Kick

Honestly it would be interesting to see Nintendo’s take on Legend of Legaia if the IP was given to them. But I think a better choice for whole acquires the IP would be either Sega, or Capcom instead of Nintendo. Or hell, maybe even Squire Enix as the best option?
I played both and yeah, Legaia 2 is inferior to the first in both style and substance. The only thing I would give props to Legaia 2 for is the camping/cooking system. I quite like how the characters interacted over the meals and how you could see their relationships deepen. It wasn't necessarily deep or long, but they were nice little snippets. I always thought RPG's should have a camping mechanic. Select a person to do the cooking, select a recipe and see a unique scene of everyone reacting to the dish/chef. It's a fun idea.
It is. Personally, I think it also look far aesthetically better. The PS2 sequel, though I give it some forgiveness for being an early game on that system, looks so empty and bland in comparison.
Idk if it was me enjoying the game to much or not but it seem to short. Besides that you will love the combos and tag moves. Definitely one of the best RPGs of all time.
I loved the original legaia but was never a fan of the second one, so in that regards I agree with Hidenori Shibao haha Legaia 2 felt just so... random. Like the ONLY thing that remained the same between the two games was the starting town looked similar, and the main character looked similar. I don't recall even once revisiting a town we did before in Legaia, any of the characters, or any reminents of the old world. The original game ended where there wasn't a need for a sequel, which is apart of why I really liked it, but that said a sequel could work just have it take place in the distant future or something. The same way court created the mist before it could happen again. Rather than being against the seru you'd be against a world that has forgotten and seeks to bring it back unknowingly. Having seen the effects of it before we can sympathise with the protagonists since a precedence and context has been set. Just one idea that I came up with on the spot, so there's definitely options.
I loved the original Legend of Legaia! The storyline and graphics were so mesmerizing at the time. I watched a buddy playing it (mind you, I said I WATCHED him play... for hours) and went out afterward to buy a PlayStation (yeah, the original) and this game. I grew up playing Atari. Until today, I didn't even know there was a second release, so I am definitely going to try and find it to play on my PS3. I would personally love to see Apple or someone buy the rights to this and recreate the original and 2nd version or more for play on tvOS, iOS, and macOS. Would be so magical to play it on Apple TV with modernized graphics. The storyline was what hooked me. Amazing storyline and the battle play wasn't so overwhelming to me... I found it very enjoyable.
maybe somebody with more knowledge can correct me, but isn´t Legaia 2 one of the first game who intruduce the "camping mechanic" in RPGs? When I saw that in Final Fantasy XV, Legaia 2 was my first thought
Legaia one will forever be a nostalgic time traveling trip for me. The game isn't that great here in 2021, but back then there wasn't as good story telling as there is now in entertainment. The role-playing aspect of Legaia 1 was innovative, and the plot, cliff-hangers, storyline, combat mechanics were all A+. I remember the beginning of the game where the mist comes to Rim Elm and Jugernaught tears the front gate wide open. It was terrifying and immersive. I miss that trip. This and Legend of Dragoon will have a place in my heart until the day I die.

The first one was a big part of my childhood and the second one was part of my teens. I'd love to see a Legaia 3 honestly, but would want it to be a part of the first one's story if possible. @@GameCircleTv i agree with those. Never got too much into Wild Arms, but somehow Legend of Dragoon quit working on disc 3 I think and lost all my data so haven't had the desire to pick that one back up. Loved playing it.

With no remake ever mentioned let alone even hinted at, nor the game really itself barely, it really does almost feel as if SONYs embarrassed by LoL. Which is crazy to think about due to the fact that this game sold just about 1,000,000 copies.
I love legaia both of then, but i do have to admit that the writing, the gameplay, i enjoy more of the first legaia, with its 1st gen playstation blur graphic. But i stress again, the unique combat is very special and no game has been like this. Why no dev pickup the combat i wonder?
@@GameCircleTv Better plot, they didn't inovated on the second title, that's a drawback as well. First game we have uniform changing, even being on PS1, with a lot more powerful PS2 they couldn't add this simple but interesting detail. So in general they really could do much better...

This was probably for the best. Legaia 2 was such a piece of garbage in comparison and clearly did not retain the spirit of the original to the point that a trilogy entry would've only made it worse.
One thing I read in a few places was the the writer/creater of Legaia was a very stubborn man that hated when anyone disagreed with what he wanted to do and he was very hard to work with. I know you need to take that with a grain of salt because we don't know who said it and they could just be mad at him, but as I said, I have read that from more than one source, so there might be some validity to it.
@@GameCircleTv I do agree with you there for sure. But I am glad that Legaia and its sequel do not feel like the standard games for the time. I also wish that they could do an HD remake of both of them, and out some real voice work with the original.
Legaia 1 it's probably my favorite JRPG of all time and probably one of my favorite games of all time. However Legaia 2 was utter trash in my opinion. The story wasn't that great, the characters were fairly boring and they literally just recycled half of the soundtrack from the first game which totally ruined it for me as much as I like hearing updated versions of some of those tracks. I'm kind of glad we didn't get a third game.

I was 10 when I first played Legaia 2 and loved it. Never played the first one, but the second was one of my favorites growing up.
You can use emulators to play the 1st and even 2nd. I suggest it. This games were nice.

Unfortunately, now that they hired Jim Ryan, Sony's focus is mainly on AAA games. Big mistake, IMO. It'll catch up to 'em.

The Legaia and Shadow Hearts series are my 2 favorite underdogs of the RPG world. At least we are getting a spiritual successor to SH with Penny Blood, but a Legend of Legaia remaster would be awesome.

This is 1 of my favorites game in ps1 including legend of the lagoon, and twisted metal small brawl, classic never dies, i played all of that again when i bought psp 3000, and this time i am searching if theres a way i would play this in steamdeck or switch, and good news yeah there it is, i hope theres a chance to get remaster version of this 3l games.
I remember when i was 7 or 8 yrs of age i am watching my older brother playing legend of legaia, when he finish the game i decided to try playing this game but i didnt finish the game because tried to upgrading from ps1 to ps2 we planned to sell our ps1 to get money to buy ps2 but suddenly we devided the money to 3 me,my older brother and my oldest brother, and since im the youngest i get small amount of money and bcos of that i cried a lot 😅 but i get a ps2 as a gift, bcos my nephew and his mother got petition by my brother abroad and my nephews ps2 gift to me, Then when i get older i save money to buy my psp but i only bought 2nd hand 😅 then i finish all that games ☺️ this game makes my childhood more fun and much memorable.
You definitely have a story to remember it by. I'm glad you enjoyed it, and we also spoke about the Twisted Metal series, so you should check that out as well. This is what gaming is all about, the memories. Especially memories with family and good times
Legaia 1 is a much better game but legaia 2 isn't bad.
For example the monster design in legaia 1 is much better and scarier.
The story is also quite dark, remember when we first arrive at noa home only to find petrified zombie(?) That is in constant pain, that is just stuff of nightmare.
The music in legaia 1 is just masterpiece and legaia 2 fail to deliver the same quality like the first game but again legaia 2 isn't bad. I still play both and still had a good time playing both games.
The sequel have some pros too :
- combat is much better
- camping/cooking/crafting
- character interaction in camping/in the town is hilarious and awesome
(Just to name a few)
If I were in charge making the third game I would just combined what's good about the first game and the second game and also add my own content in there.
The game gameplay is very unique and I don't see why they won't make another game but I'm curious how much they would sell the game license

legaia 2 always felt off to me
and i replayed the LoL like 30 times by now.
legaia 2 was still fun because it was so broken, as a kid it was quite hard, but as a grown up it was very easy to exploit most mechanics.
also the biggest thing in legaia 2 was the trinket crafting..
ITS INSANE how much you can combine, you can get like very overpowered ENDGAME trinkets right at the start if you know what you are doing, spent at least 100 hours only in trinket crafting, then quitting the game because i was too overpowered lol.
Shit I quit it because the grinding was too harsh when I started meeting instant death enemies in the volcano, I guess I should retry with a more thorough attention to the features.
It's worth a another try
Legaia 1 is my most memorable games, it was the 1st time I try RPG and love it ever since. Yeah I dissapointed with sequel tho with the same reasons that you mentioned. For the future, I prefer the developer to remake the 1st one than to create the 3rd, since I think many of us still replay this game over and over again. It can follows the success of Resident Evil or Final Fantasy 7 remakes.

@@GameCircleTv Nah, keep the turn based, coz Legaia has unique turn based that we can't find in other RPGs. Other than that they can develop the graphics, mini games, add some sub-stories, hidden bosses (like Lapis), which is lacked in the 1st. Ow I like the magic system that extracted from enemies skills too, similar like FF 7 materia system.
Legend of Legaia is my favorite game of all time. It needs to be released on the PlayStation store and have them fix the Conkram glitch. I wish they would give it a proper remake of the original like what was done for Xenoblade Chronicles. “Legend of Legaia Definitive Edition.” I bought Legaia 2: Duel Saga when it first released and ended up returning it. I gave it a second chance years later and enjoyed it but still liked the original better. I own both on discs. It’s best played on a backwards compatible PS3 with smoothing turned on. 24 years after first playing Legaia and it’s still my favorite game.

Well it's a modified version of the Hurricane Kick from Street Fighter. She learns The Hyper Art attack through a Wind Book III, dropped by Lu Delilas after defeating her in battle. Mostly I think it's just an inspiration from the Hurricane Kick

Honestly it would be interesting to see Nintendo’s take on Legend of Legaia if the IP was given to them. But I think a better choice for whole acquires the IP would be either Sega, or Capcom instead of Nintendo. Or hell, maybe even Squire Enix as the best option?
Not so sure if Square Enix as they seem to be leaving a lot of series dead.
I played both and yeah, Legaia 2 is inferior to the first in both style and substance. The only thing I would give props to Legaia 2 for is the camping/cooking system.
I quite like how the characters interacted over the meals and how you could see their relationships deepen. It wasn't necessarily deep or long, but they were nice little snippets.
I always thought RPG's should have a camping mechanic. Select a person to do the cooking, select a recipe and see a unique scene of everyone reacting to the dish/chef. It's a fun idea.
Both great games still. Camping was definitely a good addition.

It is. Personally, I think it also look far aesthetically better. The PS2 sequel, though I give it some forgiveness for being an early game on that system, looks so empty and bland in comparison.
Idk if it was me enjoying the game to much or not but it seem to short. Besides that you will love the combos and tag moves. Definitely one of the best RPGs of all time.

I loved the original legaia but was never a fan of the second one, so in that regards I agree with Hidenori Shibao haha
Legaia 2 felt just so... random. Like the ONLY thing that remained the same between the two games was the starting town looked similar, and the main character looked similar. I don't recall even once revisiting a town we did before in Legaia, any of the characters, or any reminents of the old world.
The original game ended where there wasn't a need for a sequel, which is apart of why I really liked it, but that said a sequel could work just have it take place in the distant future or something. The same way court created the mist before it could happen again. Rather than being against the seru you'd be against a world that has forgotten and seeks to bring it back unknowingly. Having seen the effects of it before we can sympathise with the protagonists since a precedence and context has been set.
Just one idea that I came up with on the spot, so there's definitely options.

I loved the original Legend of Legaia! The storyline and graphics were so mesmerizing at the time. I watched a buddy playing it (mind you, I said I WATCHED him play... for hours) and went out afterward to buy a PlayStation (yeah, the original) and this game. I grew up playing Atari. Until today, I didn't even know there was a second release, so I am definitely going to try and find it to play on my PS3. I would personally love to see Apple or someone buy the rights to this and recreate the original and 2nd version or more for play on tvOS, iOS, and macOS. Would be so magical to play it on Apple TV with modernized graphics. The storyline was what hooked me. Amazing storyline and the battle play wasn't so overwhelming to me... I found it very enjoyable.
You should definitely play the 2nd part. I agree, although if they remade this game would be nice to see it in all platforms instead

Legaia one will forever be a nostalgic time traveling trip for me. The game isn't that great here in 2021, but back then there wasn't as good story telling as there is now in entertainment. The role-playing aspect of Legaia 1 was innovative, and the plot, cliff-hangers, storyline, combat mechanics were all A+.
I remember the beginning of the game where the mist comes to Rim Elm and Jugernaught tears the front gate wide open. It was terrifying and immersive. I miss that trip. This and Legend of Dragoon will have a place in my heart until the day I die.

I loved both games. When I went into the second game I did get confused with why it was so different than the first, but I loved it just as much. The first one was a big part of my childhood and the second one was part of my teens. I'd love to see a Legaia 3 honestly, but would want it to be a part of the first one's story if possible. Legend of Legaia 1 was better than Legaia 2, but I didn’t hate Legaia 2. I enjoyed both.
Yes, they are both enjoyable in reality. But we have a better insight as to why they are different now.
I love legaia both of then, but i do have to admit that the writing, the gameplay, i enjoy more of the first legaia, with its 1st gen playstation blur graphic. But i stress again, the unique combat is very special and no game has been like this. Why no dev pickup the combat i wonder?

First game we have uniform changing, even being on PS1, with a lot more powerful PS2 they couldn't add this simple but interesting detail. So in general they really could do much better...

This was probably for the best. Legaia 2 was such a piece of garbage in comparison and clearly did not retain the spirit of the original to the point that a trilogy entry would've only made it worse.

One thing I read in a few places was the the writer/creater of Legaia was a very stubborn man that hated when anyone disagreed with what he wanted to do and he was very hard to work with. I know you need to take that with a grain of salt because we don't know who said it and they could just be mad at him, but as I said, I have read that from more than one source, so there might be some validity to it.
There could be, some writers get like that. Regardless he was correct about most games copying each other.
@@GameCircleTv I do agree with you there for sure. But I am glad that Legaia and its sequel do not feel like the standard games for the time. I also wish that they could do an HD remake of both of them, and out some real voice work with the original.

Legaia 1 it's probably my favorite JRPG of all time and probably one of my favorite games of all time. However Legaia 2 was utter trash in my opinion. The story wasn't that great, the characters were fairly boring and they literally just recycled half of the soundtrack from the first game which totally ruined it for me as much as I like hearing updated versions of some of those tracks. I'm kind of glad we didn't get a third game.
