This is one of the biggest twist endings in recent memory, even if we take it for granted now. Superheroes were long established to have secret identities, and this movie was already building up to Tony using the "bodyguard" cover story he had in the comics.
And then he throws all of that out the window. Fade to credits.
And people complain when they do the same with Spider-Man

Gplgs and Spider-Mans entire dynamic is his secret identity, it’s one of the most important parts of his character.

What I love about this movie is that it’s about accountability. If he tried lying to get out of it, how is he much better than how he started?
I’m pretty sure it’s actually the exact opposite of what you’re describing. Especially given that this decision has terrible ramifications in the sequel as it painted a target on his back and endangered people around him. His decision to reveal his identity was to show that even though he has changed, Tony is still Tony and doesn’t always keep his narcissism in check. The part where he assumed that the reporter was accusing him of being a superhero even though she wasn’t further cemented this because in his mind, he’s thinking, “well why wouldn’t everyone suspect that I, the badass genius billionaire Tony Stark, could be a superhero?”
It's not about accountability: it's vanity. Had he kept his identity secret he would have avoided being targeted. He let his vanity get the better of him. It may be perceived as entertaining but it was still a reckless decision.
That's what I just realized, 15 years later. Coulson says "this will all be behind you," and I think that's what was on his mind when he looked at the cards. 'Back to normal.' He didn't want that, so he threw it to the wind

What I find interesting is that Christine Everhart was the only one that didn't immediately jump to her feet as soon as Tony announces that he's Iron Man. I think it's because she's been interested in Tony for a while. Even if they only had a one night stand I feel like she knows him a little better than the rest of the reporters. Of course she doesn't actually know him really, but she's been close enough to him to catch a little glimpse of what he's really like on a few levels. So when Tony announces the truth, I think she's more just processing it, adjusting her mental picture of the man, making sense of the things she already new in light of this new information.
She knew he's done something. But she didn't expect He would admit it.
Also with the question she asked, I think she knew tony was iron man before hand but wanted to toy with him/have him reveal himself
Leslie Bibb (the actress), clearly knew his answer was leading up to something before all the other reporters. That's why she processing something, like could it have been him? That's also probably why she didn't stand up, in shocked surprise.

In Iron Man, it was RDJ who held the power of a God in that split second, while in Endgame it was finally Iron Mans turn to reshape the world he had built for 11 years. Such a badass powerful moment, and one of the most important lines in cinematic history.

After watching the first episode of ‘Agents of SHIELD’. I got to thinking about the term ‘hero’. How do you define it? Tony Stark seemed to think he was not ‘hero’ material because of all the misdeeds in his life. Your past doesn’t define you. It is the actions you do to stop the injustice that others do that does.
One of the best moments in superheroes film history is using the black sabbath outro credit just after the sequence.

A lot of them...public....Okay, truth is...I Am Iron Man". That line right there for me is where Tony Stark and Robert Downey Jr. blur into one. I was only 13 when Iron Man came out but anyone old enough to know of RDJ's past was probably doubtful that he could play a superhero in a potential box office franchise (nevermind kicking off a cinematic universe of several franchises and counting).
