THE WORD/MESSAGE: I JUST GOT: you need to trust yourself again .. take up your sword and stand firm .. trust your power within ... your guidance is supreme ... no fear is needed .. just courage to step forward ... come child, the world is your oyster - its time to take up your position .. your time is now!
This is NOT the first demo for this track. This is Kate’s reaction back to Prince from his initial demo. Lenny Henry has said many times of his wonder of hearing Prince’s vocals on the original demo (because Lenny Henry sang on the final cut) Prince wrote the lyrics about L.O.V.E., Purple, Gold and eye. They are running themes throughout his albums.
Not according to Prince's sound engineer Michael Koppelman. The Prince site princevault confirms her as the author of those lyrics as well. Clearly she composed it in a style that would appeal to Prince. Lenny Henry said that when he was invited to contribute vocals and heard the track after Prince added guitar, etc, he said, wow, that sounds like Prince's guitar work (he's a huge fan), and Kate confirmed that it indeed was Prince playing on the track.
this "demo" that people keep posting is extremely inaccurate - this is not the demo prior to Prince's involvement in this project - supposedly this demo was found on tape yrs later yada yada ... Prince was involved with this track from the time of lyrics on - and the original was just a vocal no instrumentation it was added to over weeks of back n forth phone convos and at that time regular post ... there are numerous versions of this song pre production - they also co wrote this although i prefer the full lyrics and the smoother ballad of this version - there is an accapella version of the final track and an extended mix also .... but yes i agree with you how very well put ! and seeing the positive - i just wish that these "demo" versions of this song had the proper history attached and or Kates take on it ... there is somewhere her speaking on this song and how it came about ... and who ever made this montage video its tremendous thank you for posting it @Priestess
From the Kate Bush Encyclopedia: "Song written by Kate Bush. Originally released on her seventh album The Red Shoes. Bush asked Prince to contribute background vocals to 'Why Should I Love You' in 1991. She sent him the track, which she had recorded at Abbey Road Studios (Studio Number One), London, England, and Prince added vocals, but also added many instrumental parts to the song, at his Paisley Park Studios. When Kate Bush and Del Palmer listened to Prince's returned track, they weren't sure what to do with it. They worked on it on and off for two years to try to "turn it back into a Kate Bush song". The track also features background vocals by British comedian Lenny Henry, a good friend of Kate's."

The notion that Jesus was painted in the likeness of Cesare Borgia can be easily debunked by looking at any icon/painting of Christ before Cesare’s birth. Even a glance at depictions of Christ during the first 400 years of the Chruch will show long hair
The protests based on Jesus’ skin colour in depictions seems to be focused in white countries. In Ethiopia he is dark skinned, in east Asia he has oriental features. In short, Jesus’ skin colour has very little value to Christians
I don't know about the imagery, but there are Kate biographers who believe the subject of this song is Jesus (with Jesus also being The Man With the Child in His Eyes). Only Kate and Jesus know for sure.
That is a funny ,yet a Shallow guess. The Mysteries seem PROFANE and KREEPY to those who don't SEE LIGHT automatically. The Defensive mind can (and does) turn Angelic, loving themes into Darkness of Ignorance. I totally Understand, your view. This song is about Mary falling for the Messiah. A UNIVERSAL story, as Kate often writes. TY Lester.

+Alan M what's the best version?
Hi Alan. How do you know this? Is there a place I can hear the acapella version and the extended mix? Thanks!

I would really like to hear more about this collaboration between Kate and Prince. What inspired the song-? when did prince get involved etc.?
The producer involved with the Prince side has written a rant about it. You can find it at another video of this demo on TH-cam.

This version shows article in the video about the collaboration
This is so beautiful, all it needs is slightly punchier instrumentation for the chorus.
The fine purple.

Meaning WHO?
I love Jesus ❤
anyone have that picture of jesus laughing?
Yes, In a Video of Mine Entitled : HAUNTED OR HOLY, I speak of when I had a vision of Jesus, smiling. #Sacred #Smiles
Why is Jesus white if he is from Israel?
He was not. That image of Jesus is really a son of a Pope. Nobody knew how he looked....

(Who else could help me now?)
even better than dylan
Quite a bit of effort to then get the lyrics wrong.
I'm sorry but the Jesus imagery is terrible
No worries- thanks for watching & commenting.

I'm guessing this song is about falling in love with/being sexually attracted to Jesus?

Kate has always written songs with multiple meanings, I also see it as a love letter to Prince.
Prince reigned this song in and made it work
I love her! She wants Jesus in her life! She's fighting him! Please stop Kate! He loves you so much! He's waiting for you sister! As I am!
I think she has had God in her heart from a child. Delia
Prince saved this song.
+Dean Winchester No, Prince helped develop it into something else just as fab. Both are great in different ways. :D

Dean Winchester I’ve heard people say this before. But save it from what? Where is the link to the original that was so bad?
Who was she singing about, Del Palmer?
Jesus Christ, she said so in an interview.
