    Wow, I'm not sure I'd have recognized him if nobody had said who it was. I remember this show, and boy does that make me feel old. The basic premise was, a succession of young nervy comics would each spend five minutes dying on their arse. The young Gorman did incredibly well to rouse the audience from their coffins. Not only laughter, but applause! I feared the worse, but he gave a nice little piece there.

      You should check out his "making a comedy routine out of a weird dare" era: Are You Dave Gorman, Dave Gorman's Important Astrology Experiment, Dave Gorman's Googlewhack Adventure, etc. Back then he mostly wore T-shirts, but had to stop after ... well, I don't want to spoil Googlewhack Adventure.

    He looks so young there. You can see and hear it is him, but as I first became aware of him because of Modern Life Is Goodish, it is surreal seeing him from 1991. I'd love to see more.

    Watched this and Viva Cabaret every episode. Heartbroken that I taped every one and some a*hole broke into my car and stole all my (basically worthless) possessions while I was moving between accommodation. Likewise all my cassettes of Loose Talk on Radio 1 with the godlike comedians of the day. Lost to posterity but these acts have gone on to great things at least.

    Strange how some (now very well-known) performers began their TV careers as so-called 'poets'. Not singers or stand-ups, but definitely poets.
    Perhaps it was something their agents recommended to give them a unique selling point when looking for bookings. Dave Gorman? Poet? Gosh. I remember Craig Charles was first introduced to us as a Scouse poet. Ainsley Harriott (the chef) started out singing novelty calypsos!
    Times have changed. With the internet out of control, everybody thinks they can write, compose, and perform - bypassing all of that boring 'learning your trade in the clubs or getting rejected by 58 publishers for 12 years first' nonsense...
    I think a lot of today's TH-cam celebrities would be shocked if they had to take the traditional route to getting noticed.
    "Thank you. Next!"
    :-)

    Fun Fact: Two of the people in this video have been on Taskmaster. Can you guess which ones?

    • @LarryDors
      @LarryDors  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If I had used a longer clip, it would have been three people in the video have appeared on Taskmaster (Series 3,1,15). And for our viewers outside of the UK, we're not talking about the Australian, American, New Zealand, Danish or the Swedish variation.
