@J.Shelby I wasn't a fan of the noise either, I'm an inside person. I've found painting on beaches and fields to be rather empty, it might be good to try and find somewhere near you that isn't busy and try painting there
I'm obsessed with this new series!! I work from home so it makes me feel not as alone ❤️ I was in a bad mood this morning, and this made me so happy, like magic!
The commentary/ conversation from the two friends was awesome! 🤣 it made me laugh a lot! Also, would you be able to break down how you draw people from life? Like even the basic forms? It was interesting to see how you were sketching them 🙂🥰 I should clarify that, to me it looks like you take a different approach from how you normally sketch to how you sketch from life (when the subject is moving and you have a little bit of time to capture that pose before they move). 🙂
Amazing sketches! :) I'm from Germany and tried really hard to understand them, but the combination of their mumbling and the loud background noises made it nearly impossible haha. At first he noticed that you're drawing, but I could not understand what he said afterwards. Some seconds later he was just asking his wife which meat she got with her burger whatever she had. But it's pretty normal for Germans to have a rather "cold" look to them. People tend to be more to themselves which does not mean that they try to be rude. At least in my experience haha. I'm sure they liked your drawings. :)
The conversation is so relatable, I don’t like people knowing I draw but when they do see me I always get told to do commissions and then I have to explain I just like doing my own thing lol
I could never draw in such a place. I hate when people come near me to sneak peak what i'm doing. I guess that is because i'm pretty insecure about the process, and don't wanna fell like i'm being pressured by the eyes of other people. But all the people that talk to you in the videos seem real nice. Great video by the way.
I'd love to be able to sketch people as (seemingly) effortlessly as you do! Really struggling to capture likeness at the moment. Thanks so much for sharing - encourages me to keep at it.
"...I want to hide forever." Haha! I know exactly what you mean 😀 Eaton Center would be the perfect place for winter urban sketching--thanks for sharing.
Love the talking in this one! People were so friendly and while the talk came up i could get to my drawing while listening. Really sweet I'm really enjoying the series (that I just binge watchedit
I remember once I was sketching at the beach and made direct eye contact with a guy I was drawing - learned to wear sunglasses after that! Lovely art as always
You're so good at this! I am impressed how you kept drawing while you were talking to the guys. As an introvert, I also appreciate moments of connection with strangers! I would definitely chat you up if I met you 😀
Awh I loved this, it's so hard to go and sit and draw where people can see you and interact with you but you made it seem really fun, I'm inspired to try again :)
Great job, Chris! Honestly, you are so good at these quick sketches, capturing people while they sat oblivious. You got pages of very different people. I’m glad that you had some interaction with other people, too. To be able to interact while still drawing is a skill!
i've said it everytime, but i love watching these!! I would have struggled so much to film and draw when there's so many distractions around but you did amazingly!! All of your sketches look so dynamic and well done too! 🥰
Great episode! I get really nervous about drawing people irl because I feel like I'm violating their privacy so I really like seeing other people do it and have the same concerns, giving their solutions to the awwardness. Also I still laugh when I remember the subway voice announcing Dundas Station cause I'm mentally 10 years old lol
This is very inspiring to watch, because I too used to do the SAME thing in an outdoor department store parking lot(using charcoal). You seem very relaxed. It's a great exercise to develop speed! I Never received complaints about privacy. Most people were generally flattered just to a subject at all😊.
Aww I really enjoyed this video and admire your bravery, as a fellow shy artists I imagine this is tough. It was so sweet to see the interactions you had in this video ❤️❤️. I can’t wait to see more of your videos 🥰!
great video. this inspires me to try this out. busiest place I sketched humans was a barnes. and noble cafe. you got some courage busting out the tripod at the food court . the angles are fine. as artists we get it. keep up the good work.
This is the first time I've seen your channel but I love this content!! I could watch mall sketching all day and I wish I was doing it. I can't right now but I tried in an airport recently and it was so much fun! Thank you😊
Hello Chris. I really love seeing you out sketching from life. That takes courage. I understand a stealthy approach to observing subjects is definitely needed in such a location & on Black Friday no less. So brave. I enjoyed the general buzz of the busy environment around you. I live quietly in the country so the novelty of the busy mall was fun. The interaction with the young men was lovely. Thank you!
So cool! I have a drawing in my sketchbook that you did of me while I wasn't paying attention at the IMC a few years back! I remember being so excited when I flipped open my book and saw it in there like a little suprise :) I cherish it!
I just started watching your videos around a month ago and you have inspired me so much to pick back up on sketching!! I absolutely love your art and you have amazing technique!!! I hope you are having a wonderful year so far!! 💜
Oooh, I'd never considered drawing in a food court. Since they're that much bigger, I feel less like I am taking up a space for someone else (or that someone is gonna come over and tell me I need to order more); and I imagine you get a much bigger variety of folk! I am no video editing guru or anything, but when the angle is upside down from filming, it's always worth seeing how it looks rotated. A lot of the time it's easier to film "upside down" especially when working at a table, but for viewing later our eyes will kinda work around the weirdness of the footage if we're looking at it the right way up. I love how much character you got into these portraits! I can genuinley imagine them all there. Also those two guys were great, I can understand why their personalities made them easier to interact with!
So awesome, i love watching you sketch!! I've always wanted to draw out in public like this but i get so shy, but seeing you brave through it inspires me a lot!! Also loved the interaction with those guys haha, i love that you can always tell someone doesnt draw a lot when they call people "drawers" (i think its cute)
I loved this one! Ah, I have yet to try drawing people from life…😅 You’re interaction with Frank and John was fun to listen in on. 😄 The second drawing you did on the first page made me think of Dmitri Shostakovich. 😛
I have a white "Foldable Video Recording Phone Holder", you can search it. it works so well either on the table or on floor. I bring it to many places already, It can fold into a cuboid and just bigger than a phone, heavy and stable. I hope this could help your set up easier.
🌻 Nice video. Ideas: drawing environmental portraits while riding in subway and city bus, and outside parkette or parks, or workers in their work areas.
Great content as usual! I couldn't help noticing the pencil twirling myself lol I also do this, and I think it's to find the sharpest point of the pencil. So I can get the most precise lines. That's just me at any rate. Not sure if it's the same for you.
I tryed this! but ppl seems uncomfortable while Im seeing so often to them xD Instead, I draw with references. Sometimes ppl gets curious and come to see and talk. Im autistic+shy so thats not good for my concentration xD
Hey Chris! I was wondering why you hold you pencil like that. Is it because you can rest your hand on the paper while you also hold the pencil a little bit farther back?
i went sketching at Eaton center the other day as well! I sat at Real Fruit Bubbletea and I was too scared to look at one person for too long so I mostly just made the details up lol. Ended up with a lot of back views of ppl just because I don't dare look them in the face.
I live like 2 hours north of Toronto, have been there like 4 times in my life, I can't handle going there with all the people, but I would die to just go there and watch you draw LOL is that weird? 😬🤷🏻♀️
Love your cafe vids! i hope you do more of them, but maybe with a voiceover. It was a bit hard keeping up with the sketches and subtext at the same time.
i personally don’t mind the angles here, i feel like in a studio video it would be bothering but for some reason not here? probably also bc it’s sketches, if it was more detailed art ig then it would bother me a little? but yeah anyway loved the video and love the serie, it definitely makes me wanna draw in coffee shops!
how do you find the courage to film in public? i’m always so scared, especially when i’m in a tight cafe. do you have any tips? also what do you use for your camera setup when your in public??
the guys talking to you were so sweet haha they seemed so genuinely curious and interested
right they were so nice😭
Is there something problem in your hands
aw what a wholesome interaction u caught on video. the awkwardness is so relateable. i probably wouldnt carry the conversation as long as u did
You did really well sketching in such a busy place! ❤ I would’ve felt so awkward 😬
me too, so I use movie as references. :P
@J.Shelby I wasn't a fan of the noise either, I'm an inside person. I've found painting on beaches and fields to be rather empty, it might be good to try and find somewhere near you that isn't busy and try painting there
@J.Shelby that sounds lovely, you should definitely give it a go ☺
I'm obsessed with this new series!! I work from home so it makes me feel not as alone ❤️ I was in a bad mood this morning, and this made me so happy, like magic!
A deep thank you for those of us who are too anxious to draw at the mall with tons of people 😂❤
The commentary/ conversation from the two friends was awesome! 🤣 it made me laugh a lot! Also, would you be able to break down how you draw people from life? Like even the basic forms? It was interesting to see how you were sketching them 🙂🥰

You're a fantastic artist
I twirl my pencil to get the crisp edge, maybe that’s what you’re doing unconsciously! You’re such a fantastic artist!
Love love your cafe sketching!
I could never draw in such a place. I hate when people come near me to sneak peak what i'm doing. I'd love to be able to sketch people as (seemingly) effortlessly as you do! Really struggling to capture likeness at the moment. Thanks so much for sharing - encourages me to keep at it.
This is awesome! You're so precise that you bang them out quickly, they all have so much character. Love it.
"...I want to hide forever." Haha! I know exactly what you mean 😀 Eaton Center would be the perfect place for winter urban sketching--thanks for sharing.

I love your Cafe Hop Diaries! Watching you sketch is really inspiring me to get out and do the same. Hope you're able to continue to upload more.
i've said it everytime, but i love watching these!! I would have struggled so much to film and draw when there's so many distractions around but you did amazingly!! All of your sketches look so dynamic and well done too! 🥰
the photography guys convo is so fun lol
I love the way your sketching is so flowy, like drawing with the motion ^^ thats so cool to watch 🙌
Great episode! I get really nervous about drawing people irl because I feel like I'm violating their privacy so I really like seeing other people do it and have the same concerns, giving their solutions to the awwardness. I really love this series 🥺Its the one thing I look forward to every week
Twirling your pencils keeps a sharp edge 😊 Loving this series! Tfs!
I love these sketch vlogs they inspire me to go outside myself! I'm always cramped in my bedroom but this looks way more fun and relaxing
I've drawn people at the Eaton Centre as well! Super fun but also slightly terrifying haha. Loved the video Chris! ❤
I would def watch another one.. whatever brings you joy though! Follow the joy and I'll be here to watch your magic! ♡
Your cafe hope diaries are a pleasure go watch, I look forward to them sm!
I love this series, I couldn’t click on it fast enough.
This was such a fun video. It's actually fascinating to hear the 'non artist' perspective and how they interact with an artist 😂
This is very inspiring to watch, because I too used to do the SAME thing in an outdoor department store parking lot(using charcoal). You seem very relaxed. It's a great exercise to develop speed! I Never received complaints about privacy. Most people were generally flattered just to a subject at all😊.
Awesome episode!!! It’s so fun capturing those around you both through quick sketches and genuine conversations
It’s so refreshing to see a fellow artist enjoy their day and drawing ❤❤ you are my inspiration Chris. You are awesome 🥹.
Aww I really enjoyed this video and admire your bravery, as a fellow shy artists I imagine this is tough. It was so sweet to see the interactions you had in this video ❤️❤️. I can’t wait to see more of your videos 🥰!
You are so talented! Thank you for sharing your art process with us. It helps us to learn.
I'd love to see more drawings from life!
I enjoyed this video and the whole cafe sketching series. Loved loved loved your conversation with the two guys 😊hope they find your video

Another great episode, really enjoyed your interactions with everyone.
I loved this one! Ah, I have yet to try drawing people from life…😅 You’re interaction with Frank and John was fun to listen in on. 😄
The second drawing you did on the first page made me think of Dmitri Shostakovich. 😛
This was nice! Can't wait for the next one
Awesome! Col- Erase are so smooth, especially when you have to draw fast.
Your art videos are one of my favorites! Hope you're doing well and hope to see another one soon!
i hope john, frank and the older gentleman r havin wonderful days
I have a white "Foldable Video Recording Phone Holder", you can search it. it works so well either on the table or on floor. I bring it to many places already, It can fold into a cuboid and just bigger than a phone, heavy and stable. I hope this could help your set up easier.

🌻 Nice video.
Ideas: drawing environmental portraits while riding in subway and city bus, and outside parkette or parks, or workers in their work areas.

I love Eaton sm, like its just so fun
love it! lately i've thinking of trying this, it looks like so much fun
Lovely sketches! I haven't gone café sketching in forever, but seeing you brave the Eaton Centre is giving me some courage! 😅
the little conversation was gold xD
Great content as usual! I couldn't help noticing the pencil twirling myself lol I also do this, and I think it's to find the sharpest point of the pencil. So I can get the most precise lines. That's just me at any rate. Not sure if it's the same for you.
I always put headphones on so people don't approach me, I don't even play any music, just put them on haha
i love this series!!! please do more!
Amazing 👏 Amazing
do you have any advice on shading? your art is so smooth and nice its inspiring❤
Ahh yes, those inevitable moments where you make eye contact with the person you're drawing in the wild. Nope, never awkward...never, ever, ever. XD
This makes me want to go out and draw
I tryed this! but ppl seems uncomfortable while Im seeing so often to them xD Instead, I draw with references. Sometimes ppl gets curious and come to see and talk. Im autistic+shy so thats not good for my concentration xD
this is the Art version of IG modeling, brought the whole setup for attention. nuts.
Hey Chris! I was wondering why you hold you pencil like that. Is it because you can rest your hand on the paper while you also hold the pencil a little bit farther back?

it's so tough to get the ideal angle w/o being to obvious and awkward isn't it X'D
amazing!!
more videos like these pls!
Wow.
16:11 why no sauce, man? 🤨
Beautiful 🌿
Totally didn't realize you lived in the same city as me. I love this so muchh
Chris Do you think about starting a watercolor course? I love your videos, my inspiration ❤️
I'm enjoying this series. My only suggestion is to make the subtitles in a larger font with more contrast.
wish i was that brave
I live like 2 hours north of Toronto, have been there like 4 times in my life, I can't handle going there with all the people, but I would die to just go there and watch you draw LOL is that weird? 😬🤷🏻♀️
Sometime could you do a video with voice over explaining your sketching process? I would love that.
Great what you sketching
*sorry about the camera angle*
Me: Flips the phone and goes with it, because magic 🪄
Also, the vibe with you three, *chef's kiss*.
Love your cafe vids! i hope you do more of them, but maybe with a voiceover. It was a bit hard keeping up with the sketches and subtext at the same time.

Hahaha she used a Brazilian meme love U
how do you find the courage to film in public? i’m always so scared, especially when i’m in a tight cafe. do you have any tips? also what do you use for your camera setup when your in public??
LMAOOO i was at eaton center that day too 😂😂
omgggg LOL
i wouldve hated people stopping to talk to me even though they sounded friendly LOL
So cool! , may I ask you where you get your tripod?
