      I used to drink the diet dew but has a funky taste. Plus I'd rather drink real sugar than whatever sweet chemical they use. But whatever.....I also eat fast food so I'm probably killing myself with that crap.

    What is the aluminum slag good for?
    That dust will make fir a quick melt.
    I want to do this. I hope you can teach me.

    • @SkullerMetals
      @SkullerMetals  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Slag isn't good for anything really. You can remelt it and try to get more metal out of it, but remelting 2-3 times is about all that's required, if that. The amount of metal you'd get is low compared to the propane you'd spend melting it.

    Cool casts, got a few ideas for casting myself that I haven't seen anyone do yet either. Sorry I haven't been able to email you the pictures of me using channel locks on my cast iron pot for pouring zinc, my phone is being a pain and I can't get it to pair with my PC much less do it the old school way by downloading the info to my PC directly just by hard lining it. Never been comfortable sending emails from my phone directly. As soon as I can get this mess sorted out I'll send those pictures....or maybe just the video entirely since I'd have to take screen grabs from it.

    You may be overheating your alum a bit. The fact that your crucible was cherry red seems a bit overkill for what is needed to melt alum. May be worth picking up a temperature gun and step back a bit on the propane usage. My 2 cents.

    • @SilverScorpion

      Good point here. Save a little fuel. Less cost!

      I had my regulator set at 0.1 so that should be right for aluminum. First time I ran it inside so maybe I could have scaled back a bit.

      @@SkullerMetals .08 for aluminum I think.

      @@SilverScorpion Ok, I didn't know that. I'll definitely try it out. With gas prices nowadays I was thinking of using charcoal.

    I'm new to sandcasting. Every time I fill the mold with the delft clay and pound it down, the clay will "split" open on the mold. Usually it splits in a different part of the mold, that I'm pounding. I hammering the clay in fairly hard. Is it possible I'm doing it too hard? I just can't understand what's causing this. When I turn the mold over, the bottom of the mold is nice and smooth. Can you please tell me what could be wrong? Thank you in advance.

    • @SkullerMetals
      @SkullerMetals  21 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Oh dude, I wish I could help you but I haven't done a lot of sandcasting. I haven't heard of that when people use Petrobond. Is that what you're using or did you make your own casting sand? I think there needs to be enough moisture/oil in the sand to keep it from cracking. That is my initial thought anyway.

      @@SkullerMetals Thanks for the reply. I use delft clay. It seems to be moist, so I can't figure out what the problem is!
