The "Phil and Seth spend all their wildcards to do insane shit" is my favorite series.
The any number of spells only require 4 Wild Cards, so it's not quite as bad

The Chatterfang squirels also getting counters interaction works for the same reason that Parallel Lives makes two slimes with counters and not one slime with counters and a 0/0 with no counters. You can think of it as replacement effects working on the card's text. Slimes against humanity puts counters on each token it created(normally just one 0/0 slime), so if you have Chatterfang it will read "Make a 0/0 slime and a 1/1 squirrel and put on them a bunch of counters". Tokens will get the same effects. If a card says make a tapped and attacking token, the squirrel will also be tapped and attacking.

The key word that enables this interaction is "instead". If any effect would just cause additional tokens without causing a replacement effect, those tokens would not gain the counters.
Makes sense. If iirc, you can read it like:
Original:
Create a 0/0 green Ooze creature token with trample. Put X +1/+1 counters on *it*, where X is two plus the total number of cards you own in exile and in your graveyard that are Oozes or are named Slime Against Humanity.
Replacement effect text:
Create a 0/0 green Ooze creature token with trample *and a 1/1 green Squirrel creature token*. Put X +1/+1 counters on *the tokens*, where X is two plus the total number of cards you own in exile and in your graveyard that are Oozes or are named Slime Against Humanity.
What is even funnier than squirrels is how it should work with "Peregrin Took" from LOTR set.
You would create ooze and food with +1/+1 counters on it :D

So in theory, the slime deck can run test of talents itself. You can exile about 20 slimes and guarantee every slime you cast is lethal from then on

How do you cast Slime Against Humanity when all your copies have been exiled due to Test of Talents?
@@apocryphascribe5019 You don't have to exile all copies. It says "search the library graveyard and hand" and not "reveal" (for the library and hand). Because hand and library are hidden zones you're allowed to "fail to find" and remove only as many copies as you want.
Also, Test of Talents say "any number" and not "all" so you're also allowed to not exile cards in the graveyard
Surgical Extraction works the same way
@@apocryphascribe5019 you can search for any number, so if you're using it on yourself you don't exile every copy.

After seeing how Phil milling the slimes turbo-charged the deck, Seth needs to play one more slime variant with a self-mill theme.
I just built a commander deck around persistent petitioners and slime against humanity with Katilda and Lier at the helm. Self mill with the petitioners and then when you cast more petitioners, your slimes in your graveyard get flashback.

I've learned so much from these two over the years. I mean, I was cruel before I watched an MTGGoldfish video, but now my presence at an LGS is limited by the Geneva convention to 1 game or 45 minutes

9:57 Chatterfang is a replacement ability so the created squirrel gets all the modifiers from the token generator. For example with gala greeters creating a tapped treasure would make a tapped squirrel.
Yup, and this is a required effect, otherwise the squirrels would just create infinite squirrels. Unless Chatterfang gets text explicitly worded to prevent not just infinite squirrels, but any workarounds or loopholes players could find.
Really enjoying the new content in MTG Goldfish. It's awesome watching Seth and Phil chat/banter during their games.
The game with the petitioners, I think Phil should have chanced that he would draw one more petitioner. That would have allowed him to mill 72 cards and was his only path to victory, blocking ensured the loss.
Even if he did, he wouldn't have had enough mana to cast all 3 anyway. I don't think there was anything he could have done.
He didnt even have to. He should have just taken that 20 dmg. He had 6 petitioners and two in hand. If he had not chumped with the one he would have gotten the kill.

@@longlivemetaldude Sorry meant to say 5 advisors, he had 4 petitioners + Bruvac in play. 2 petitioners in hand and 5 lands. So even if he had drawn another petitioner he wouldn't have had enough mana.

It's the same reason that parallel lives created two ooze tokens with counters, because it modifies the part that says what to put into play and the rest of the text applies to everything that was put into play by the spell.

replacement effect on Chatterfang essentially re-writes the text on Slime against humanity to make a slime and a squirrel, then put that many counters on that (those) tokens.
Wait, its not chatterfang making the extra tokens, its the original source making tokens plus squirrel tokens? Is it because its worded as make x tokens plus x squirrels instead, rather than make x tokens and alao x squirrel tokens?
@er1276 Abilities with the word "instead" are known as a replacement effect. These effects apply themselves directly into the other effects, much like erasing and writing in their own text into another card's textbox.
In this case, Chatterfang's replacement effect would change the textbox on Slime Against Humanity into:
Create a 0/0 green Ooze creature token with trample plus that many 1/1 green squirrel creature tokens. Put X +1/+1 counters on those tokens, where X is two plus the total number of cards you own in exile and in your graveyard that are Oozes or are named Slime Against Humanity.

While I really love the extra effort in Phil's editing of these videos, keeping the gameplay as natural as possible should be the top priority. It's something that makes other popular channels very bland.

Chatterfang oracle's explain
The additional Squirrel tokens won't have any abilities the other tokens were created with. Anything else specified in the effect creating the token (such as tapped, attacking, "That token gains haste," or "Exile that token at end of combat") applies to both the original tokens and the Squirrels.

I think the chatterfang/ slime against humanity interaction is that slime says summon the token then give it plus x/x counters. Then chatterfang says if a source creates a token, it creates that many tokens plus a squirell.
So the slime against humanity essentially has the create a slime token replaced with create a slime and a squirrel, then the counters trigger on what was created by the slime against humanity card.
So, I'll be honest: as soon as Phil passed with UU up in the bonus game, I knew what was coming. Still hilarious.
I've been trying to make the slides work, but so far the most success I've had was burn half the table with Shalai and Hallar.
My personal favorite is Athreos Rats since he makes them less likely to fold to a wrath.
I built a Slime deck last night and had a similar experience when someone tried to mill me out. Needless to say Jace is now in that deck XD

Everyone was so hyped to run Aeve as the commander for the slime deck. About three games in I realized that the Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider I had in my 99 was so much better as the commander. So now Aeve is resigned to my 99

Interesting that the ooze deck wasn't helmed by Umori, the Collector. To me, that commander fits like a glove because it's an ooze itself and it makes all of the Slime Against Humanity-spells (aswell as all other sorceries) 1 cheaper while in play.

i think the best slime against humanity deck i've seen was built entirely around looting and impulse draw, because no matter where the slime against humanities go it grows them no matter what. so they impulse draw, only cast the impulse drawn slime against humanities if they have nothing else to do really, discard some to draw other cards, and even flashback some later in the game.
