- KLIMASHEVSKY Viktor Sergeevich
08/29/1950, Baku, Azerbaijan
Trombonist, bass guitarist, pianist, arranger, Honored Artist of Kuban (1995), became known as the leader and conductor of a big band in Krasnodar. The boy was 12 years old when his parents took him to a concert with Eddie Rosner's orchestra. Since then I have always loved big bands. In 1965 he graduated from a music school in Grozny, piano class, then the Baku Music College as a theorist (1970) and the Azerbaijan Conservatory, trombone class (1977). In 1970-1981 he worked in the Song and Dance Ensemble of the Red Banner Caspian Flotilla, rising from an ordinary musician to the chief conductor. In 1982 he moved to Sochi, organized a big band at the Avtomobilist Palace of Culture, a few years later he gave the group the status of a municipal orchestra and called it Sochi-Prestige Band. The orchestra performed at several festivals in the south of Russia (Volgograd, Rostov-on-Don, Sochi), featuring saxophonist Valery Abramov and pianist Sergei Kokorin. In 1996-98 he organized the Kuban big band at the Krasnodar creative association Premiere, becoming its conductor and chief arranger. Two years later, the orchestra was headed by Georgy Garanyan, and Viktor Klimashevsky returned to Sochi and headed the pop and jazz department at the local art school. He has published several textbooks, including a collection for young pianists “Jazz Vernissage”. In 2004 he left for Germany, where he continues to do what he loves - writing arrangements for big bands.
