I agree, the leaf could have ended up there anyway, so I see no problem with adding it. The white patch is distracting, so I believe you’ve made the right choice, Henry.
I much preferred the leaf 🍁 cover shot Henry, it’s fair to say that it did look quite natural to my eyes, I love ❤️ your passion, enthusiasm & energy that you put into your photography, your a natural at this wonderful pastime, I started my hobby in 1980, I’ve had a long break from my photography of 11 years due to my long term unemployment and my mental health issues, but am now thinking about replacing my Sony RX10 & replacing it with a Nikon DSLR or a Z6 with a couple of zoom lenses and a stable tripod. Keep up the great work Henry, your a very inspirational person for your passion of photography, looking forward to watching more of your TH-cam videos my friend😎
I Love the Mental Illness awareness , Thank you for stepping forward as I am a lifelong sufferer of Anxiety and depression and Kudos to you doing these outings
Photography is so personal to me, I escape at times for hours looking, scanning and meditating. You train your eyes to look at shadows and shapes, to look at colors and contrasts, I love it. I totally understand you. Enjoy the moment!
Another cracking video @henryturner, loved the shot with the leaf over the white spot, , arnsides a cracking location for landscape photography, was up there the other week and got some cracking shots on the beach looking back at the shoreline , look forward to the next one sunday, atb si 👍
Nice video Henry. I prefer the shot with the leaf. It looks perfectly natural. Had it been autumn with bright leaves, it may have looked unnaturally placed. It blends in nicely. Good call. Lovely photos.
I love the shot with the oak leaf and I’m just like you removing twigs or sprouts of grass that conflict with my shots or even adding things in to make the shot look better.
Ah the visions of the creative mind! Sometimes it helps the veiwer see the image you had in mind, not everyone has skill! What a wonderful woodland and really well captured, fantastic Matey
Hi Henry, the leaf works much better, otherwise it would had been a distraction without it. But I also praise your honesty , some else would had place the leave before showing the video. Great video. Keep them coming. Cheers.
Ive been doing Shinrin yoku for a long time, i just didnt know it was a thing and that the Japanese have a name for it haha...!! Its amazing sometimes how a walk in the forest clears the head! thanks for sharing
Definitely better with the leaf. That was a nice subtle touch that improved the photo tremendously. Even if someone is a purist, there's every reason to expect leaves to land on those rocks every autumn, so perhaps you just restored the natural balance! Another great video sir!
I like the one with the leaf. You are right about the distraction of the bare spot. I live in the Pacific Northwest of the USA where there is abundance of forest with a lot of underbrush which makes it difficult to photograph. I wish I had your kind of imagination so as to enhance my photography. The solitude is great but frustrating when I can’t find a shoot.
Cheers Alan. Yes it can be really frustrating, I’ve been trying to practice patience a lot more in all areas of my photography and that’s paying off in the woodland a little more. Thanks again for watching mate!
Shinrin-Yoku indeed! When things get bad I retreat into the woods. I preferred the image with the leaf as well and like the masseuse but as you said it might need a bit more fog in the back to help it pop.
Leaf works for me...! Never been to that area of the country, I will have to check it out. Oh, just a note, your TH-cam channel banner still says video's on a Tuesday! Another little project for you 🙂. Keep up the good work
Good afternoon Henry. I enjoyed the leaf on the rock. I feel the one missing the moss was distracting. Even when you posted them side by side my eyes kept going to it. So nice to get out into the wilderness and take some time for yourself!! Keep up the great content.
Henry, I definitely prefer the leaf on the rock. It blends in with the floor of the forest. The white limestone is a bit distracting. Quite an impressive forest you discovered. It’s quite a contrast with our heatwave Aus at the moment!
In the first two images I found that bright spot distracting, and I think the leaf looks quite natural placed on top. I’m impressed with your finding the masseuse in the last shot. Sometimes people think I’m a bit weird as I also see human or animal figures in nature, clouds etc. but I love my imagination and I find it a massive plus in my photography.
Hi Henry , just loved that first image ( with the leaf ) lovely composition . Got to be honest , the masseuse shot didn't work for me , bit ' busy ' for my liking . Great work and enthusiasm as always , I keep learning new stuff with every vid , thanks again , see you Sunday .
Thank you for another inspiring guide. Much prefer the 'with leaf' shot as without is way too distracting. There's nothing beats getting outdoors with your camera & getting inspired & hopefully a decent shot or two. Keep doing what you do.
Another great video Henry. i think with the first picture the leaf on the rock looks much better. Plus if you hadn't mentioned it your audience would be non the wiser anyway. :-) Look forward to the next one.
The oak leaf for me is better and you didn’t remove anything just a little addition so that works the other one was distracting. That “Masseuse” shot is proper mint man! It’s got the light a bit of mist for separation and mystery too, cracking shot all in all Henry.
I like most the one with leaf on the rock, it matches with the leaves on the ground and is not a distraction as I think it is the white spot of the rock in the second image. Keep on doing great work mate!!!
I really enjoyed the video, Henry. I did laugh when you were explaining about the masseuse and saying "he's having a great time" whilst pointing to the client's waist level stump. Pareidolia is fascinating.
I like the image of the moss coloured rocks. The light on the moss and the contrast are really nice. On the issue of whether to add the leaf or not. The image looks better with it and it is your image so do what works for you. At least you were up front with the addition. The last image doesn’t work for me, but I don’t have much imagination.
I am really Happy with your way of story explains and it's drill down real passion in it with you.. About to the images for beginning images I am go with second one, even it's a distraction buth it's look as nature so I am ok on that...
Loved that very first pic thanks Henry...the music really set the scene too.....my Fuji would have eaten them greens for breakfast 🤣....your enthusiasm is infectious mate, thank you for sharing 👍
Beautiful video Henry and fantastic images. As regards the first image when you placed the leaf on the rock. Absolutely no problem in my eyes (I preferred this shot as opposed to without the leaf). I don’t see any difference in this very slight, but much needed ‘edit’ compared to changes that are made in post production. It’s the same difference. Congratulations on capturing two beautiful shots in that stunning forest 👏🏻
Definitely gotta go for the leaf because that one white spot on the rock throws everything off. Now I want to go take a walk through the woods with my camera! 👍
Great video and pictures as always. I like that one with the leave better, but only as I'm not good at Photoshop, would it be a problem to clone the white batch out?
I feel being out on the coast, hills or woodland really does help my mental health. It's always been something that helps improve my wellbeing and have always recommended it to others. Following surgery on my legs I haven't been in a position to get out as much any more. Then I took up photography a couple of months back and its re-fired that passion in me to get out and explore and has lift my spirits and wellbeing. Of course I'm in no condition to climb Ben Nevis again or any mountains but I'm really enjoying getting out and exploring. So I hear exactly what you're saying. I liked the one with the leaf, it looked natural and it done no damage to the environment or surrounding area. I think I looks great. 1 question though, what tripod & head do you use Henry? Thanks for getting out there and shooting this video, I find that I'm looking forward to your vlogs :)
Arnside & Silverdale is great!! Lots of locations in a small area without the hustle and bustle of the lakes. It also quite close to me so I visit a lot. Gait Barrows and Slack Head are great for limestone pavement with lots of trees in the gaps. Arnside Knott and Warton Crag has lots of trees and decent views. Also the Woodlands Hotel in Silverdale does local real ale for about £2.50 a pint. If you need a guide then give me a shout
Hi,Henry like your change in subject matter today. I think woodland photography is hard subject to do well especially if your not artistic like myself. But you have seem to have mastered it with ease. The first two pictures of the day I prefer the one with the leaf its looks natural not staged, that was stroke of genius on your part. I also like the masseuse. I meant to ask you before did you study art or photography at university or did it start as a hobby and you have developed it from there.paul
Pressed LIKE as soon as i saw the description of this video "Shinrin-Yoku" As despression got me into photography as i needed to do something to take my mind off the negative and suicidal thoughts i was having at the time :(
Getting out in nature is always beneficial to one's health, with or without photography. Henry, I like the shot with the leaves, but not just because it covers a bare patch on the rock. If you had cloned in the moss over the patch, it would still lack the effect provided by the leaves. They provide foreground interest and an anchor point before the eyes begin their travel through the photo. Great job!
I liked the image where you used the leaf to cover up the spot best, and I think it's ok to do this. I don't see why not as long as nature isn't harmed in any way. I also don't have a problem with using Photoshop so now and then to be honest.. I liked the second picture as well, it's good to have a story with a picture you took.
I like the image without the leaf. I understand why you didn’t want the bright spot but I think using post processing to darken the spot so your eye doesn’t jump to it would result in a more pleasing composition imho 🙂.
Hello from Kyiv Ukraine. You did the correct thing by covering the white patch with a leaf because the patch was very distracting. The other alternative would have been to clone it in post editing. I would have done one way or the other. Nothing wrong with what you did. The situation with the low branch..........I have tripods with a leg that detaches and becomes a monopod. I would taken the leg from the video tripod and propped the branch up a little way out of shot.
Thought provoking post, Henry. Well done. I believe the Japanese call the immersion “forest bathing”. Leaf and bald spot both detract from moss, in my view, becoming the subject - would rather clone out the area w/moss in post. Second image takes leap of faith to see masseuse - could be strangulation or consolation, for instance; at any rate a more generic photo caption would allow viewers to apply their own imaginative take on the interposition, making the image more thought-provoking (like an ink-blot test). Hope you agree🤔.
Hi Henry. Good to see you and hear your thoughts on this stunning location. Image with leaf is best of the two however you could easily have cloned out the limestone with the surrounding moss. As much as. I like the composition of the 2nd image I feel that a bit more light on the tree may have improved it. Def one to return to😊
I'd like to think forests are great therapy for everyone - certainly is for me! I like the one WITH the leaf/leaves. Hmmm, looks like the "masseuse's" "client" has a stiffy!
TBH with the first set of photos, it has to be the one with the leaf on it the second photo of the tree leaning over with the two arms not too sure on that one, Another great video as the norm.
Dude, for me it would have been a no-brainer: you can clone in the white patch in Photoshop especially because it is so small. Also the version with the leaf is very nice as well though. By the way, always a wonderful and inspiring video, thank you
Stunning location and with the leaf definitely helps the image, if anything I would have put a couple more leaves across the moss to break up the green a bit and would have looked a bit more natural, at the start of the video my first thought was, he’s put that leaf there... 😂
Great first image for me i much prefer the leaf, the one without just kept drawing my eye to that highlight got to be honest not really sold on the masseuses but it had some great light
Loved this video. I had to laugh so much about the masseuse. But I could see it too. Great image. The image with the leaf I liked more than without. The light spot was too distracting I think.
Honestly, the second image does the trick for me, i wish the woodlands here in denmark looked somewhat similar to this one, its only a very low % of woodland here in Denmark that is natural, and now human made for cutting them down again some years later..
I much prefer the version without the added leaf. I wouldn't worry for an instant about whether putting the leaf there is "acceptable," though. If it improved the image, that's fine. I wouldn't add moss in post, but don't think it would be unacceptable to do so.
Welcome to my local woodland (though I bypass it too often, in favour of the Lakes)! Another vote for cloning the bare spot out, rather than covering it, though covering it looks better than not. Personally, I wouldn't want the focal point to be there. Just one other point: you know a masseuse is female, right, and the male equivalent is a masseur? ;)
Just me but if I was going to cover the spot it would be something crazy like a coke can but I guess that's why I'm not a pure landscape photographer. Enjoy your work and insights but.
I like the one without the leaf, I think it looks more natural.
Covering the spot with leaves looks natural, and making a lovely image look even better.
Neil
Thanks so much Neil 🙏🏼
I agree.
I agree, the leaf could have ended up there anyway, so I see no problem with adding it. The white patch is distracting, so I believe you’ve made the right choice, Henry.
Wow Henry..stunning !.
I will just add to the bunch. The one with the leaf works for me. Keep doing the great work. I enjoy your vlogs 👍
Thanks so much!!

Great job matey, some lovely woodland shots👍🏻
Working through your vlogs Henry. Another top one. Definitely shot 'with' the leaf👍. Loving the advice and inspiration.
I like it with the leaf. Less distracting.
Thanks Karen!
With Leaf. Great work!
Cheers!

That "Out" has such power... incredibly motivational, thank you ^^
Thank you!
Definetely worth placing the leaf over the bare patch!
Cheers Phil!

Hi Henry - definitely needed the leaf maybe even 2 - the masseuse was pretty cool too - Enjoyed it as ever - T 🙂
Thanks a lot Tony
Nice one, great place and thanks for explaining where it is too, many problems landscape guys don't bother.
Cheers Robin

And thank you for another awesome video! I definitely prefer the one with the leaf, it looks so... From a forest hahaha idk
Thanks Daniel
first on the image with leaf for me a natural healing brush , just started to follow like your style
Thanks a lot Stephen
Henry, Great content once again. Really enjoy your passion for photography it's great to watch. My choice is the leaf. Keep up the good work. Out!!!!
Thanks Alan!
The oak leaf for me is better and you didn’t remove anything just a little addition so that works the other one was distracting. That “Masseuse” shot is proper mint man! It’s got the light a bit of mist for separation and mystery too, cracking shot all in all Henry.
Thanks so much Carl!

Cracking images mate, loved the video, looks like an awesome location.
Thanks a lot John
I like the image with the oak leaf and I don’t think there is anything wrong with placing it there. It is a natural part of the surrounding scene.
Definitely gotta go for the leaf because that one white spot on the rock throws everything off. Now I want to go take a walk through the woods with my camera! 👍
Thanks a lot Jerry 🙏🏼
I like the one with the leaf better
Great video and pictures as always. I like that one with the leave better, but only as I'm not good at Photoshop, would it be a problem to clone the white batch out?
No, it’s something I’m going to try!
Thanks so much Gavin, really glad you liked the concept of the video! It’s all funny model names mate but all my gear is over on my website 👍🏼
On the first photo, I wonder if a 3rd option was for Photoshop to "grow" some moss to cover the exposed stone?
my exact thoughts. Should work fairly easy
Cheers guys, yes I’m going to give that a go!!
Yes, good suggestion.
Great video again Henry.
I prefer the image with the oak leaf but I would have probably have filled the area in photoshop..
Cheers Craig, I’ll give it a try!!
Thanks Chris! Yes it’s definitely an area I’ll be seeing more of. Cheers for watching mate 👍🏼
Thanks a lot Paul! No I didn’t study it mate, just self taught and with an unconditional love for it. Thanks again for watching mate
Pressed LIKE as soon as i saw the description of this video "Shinrin-Yoku" As despression got me into photography as i needed to do something to take my mind off the negative and suicidal thoughts i was having at the time :(
Thanks so much Ady, very humbling and means a lot. Cheers for watching as always mate 👍🏼
You are more then welcome mate, love your videos as they are very inspiring to me.
Getting out in nature is always beneficial to one's health, with or without photography. Henry, I like the shot with the leaves, but not just because it covers a bare patch on the rock. If you had cloned in the moss over the patch, it would still lack the effect provided by the leaves. Oak leaf.. yep.
Cheers Steve
I like the image without the leaf. I understand why you didn’t want the bright spot but I think using post processing to darken the spot so your eye doesn’t jump to it would result in a more pleasing composition imho 🙂.
Cheers David, I did give that a try and it came out great! Cheers for the suggestion
Thanks a lot Paul and I really appreciate your suggestion - always something to think about!
I like the photo with the oak leaf; you could also have 'cheated', in post, by clone stamping the bare patch away. Ian :-)
Thanks a lot Ian!
Hi Henry. Good to see you and hear your thoughts on this stunning location. Image with leaf is best of the two however you could easily have cloned out the limestone with the surrounding moss. As much as. I like the composition of the 2nd image I feel that a bit more light on the tree may have improved it. Def one to return to😊
Thanks a lot Barry!!
The one with the leaf
I'd like to think forests are great therapy for everyone - certainly is for me!
I like the one WITH the leaf/leaves.
Hmmm, looks like the "masseuse's" "client" has a stiffy!
Henry I favour the image with the leaf on the moss. It acts as a focal point that isn't a distraction.
Thanks very much 👍🏼
Inspiring The leaf covering looks fantastic imo is better but who am i to says
Thanks Harry

I’m definitely going to give that a shot! Cheers for watching as always 🙏🏼
A fabulous shot which would have been ruined without the placement of the oak leaf imho.
Thanks for watching Frank!
I think the one with the leaf looks better. Unlike the other it doesn't add another color to the main composition. 🤔
Stunning location and with the leaf definitely helps the image, if anything I would have put a couple more leaves across the moss to break up the green a bit and would have looked a bit more natural, at the start of the video my first thought was, he’s put that leaf there... 😂
Haha cheers Stuart
The one with leaf is so much better. Also pic has great colour contrast. - Didn't go for masseuse!!!!
Cheers John!
Good to find a Brit photographer. Anyone from near York?
Great first image for me i much prefer the leaf, the one without just kept drawing my eye to that highlight got to be honest not really sold on the masseuses but it had some great light
Thanks a lot Lee
The one with the leaf is better, imho. I really like the composition with the two trees (not keen on the title)
Thanks Georgi!!
I think that tree got a happy ending
😂😂
Definitely like the oak leaf shot better - white spot was very distracting.
Cheers Terrance!
Loved this video. I had to laugh so much about the masseuse. But I could see it too. Great image. The image with the leaf I liked more than without. The light spot was too distracting I think.
Cheers Wendy

I much prefer the version without the added leaf. I wouldn't worry for an instant about whether putting the leaf there is "acceptable," though. If it improved the image, that's fine. I wouldn't add moss in post, but don't think it would be unacceptable to do so.
Thanks for your opinion Brian, and thanks a lot for watching!
Welcome to my local woodland (though I bypass it too often, in favour of the Lakes)!
Another vote for cloning the bare spot out, rather than covering it, though covering it looks better than not. Personally, I wouldn't want the focal point to be there.
Just one other point: you know a masseuse is female, right, and the male equivalent is a masseur? ;)
I prefer the one with the spot. Altho I'd have just covered it in Photoshop
Thanks Rob, I’m going to give that a try
with oak leaf
Thanks a lot!!
Leaf is perfect, the white limestone is too distracting
Cheers for watching!
Just me but if I was going to cover the spot it would be something crazy like a coke can but I guess that's why I'm not a pure landscape photographer. Enjoy your work and insights but.
Thanks a lot mate!
