Alux.com wonderful and enriching content. I had been to China last year and the magnanimity of the country never ceased to amaze me. Knowing these facts that I didn't know about China makes me want to visit China again to explore the "different" side of life as you mentioned. Thank you for your content again!

    1. It's not "cave". It's called Yao Dong, a traditional form of architecture in Shanxi. People have been living in Yao Dong for centuries, not because they want to evade high living costs, but because Yao Dong is the best form of shelter in that environment. I have lived in Yao Dongs and they are actually very comfortable.

They are showing the wrong picture. People don't build houses in caves and people most often use artificial caves rather than real caves.

#1) Wrong, the local's ancestors have been living in this caves in ancient time because it is comfortable: cool in the summer and not freezing in the winter even without heating.
#2) Wrong, it's was the Arabs and the Europeans who "STEAL/CHEATED/ROB" the Chinese of their inventions and technologies.
#3) Wrong, this is mainly the Manchurian (non-Han from the north who successfully invaded and ruled China from 1644 to 1911) practices plus they forced the Han Chinese man to wear the pip-tail hairstyle. Besides, only the supper rich and the monarchy are allow to keep long finger nails.
#4) Wrong, the latest findings from American/Chinese teams show that lots of family does not register the girl after they were born, so called "invisible girls" because without birth certificate, these girls does not exist and therefore skewed the real statistic about the boy-girl ratio in China. Chinese man will simply marry women from other country since they are becoming richer.
#5) One single person does not represented China, period. This is the dumbest example for this type of category/theme.
#6) Legal way??? What the heck?

    #13 is wrong.
The translations aren't really intended to mean anything when translated, they just sound like what they're named. Ireland sounds like I-re-lan to us and that's what we call it. Poland is Bo-lan and other countries also have this rule. For an example, in English, Spain is what English speakers call Español.
That was the longest comment I ever wrote...

I have to confess that this video is quite objective, although I am not convinced of the number of people living in so called "caves". This kind of living structure is necessary because of topographic factors and rigid climate. But it seems that the majority choose to live in urban areas.

Bruce I you guys might haven't seen any Chinese reports. No media has ever spread fake propaganda about the US. And there is no propaganda show like China Uncensored to spread fake news and assumptions anywhere on the internet. On the other hand, if the United States hasn't sent fleets or aircrafts to somewhere near Chinese waters. The Chinese should be the biggest fan of the US. Chinese copy certain technologies from the US isn't because of the lack of innovation, but they just like those too much but didn't get permission to purchase, so they want to make something similar. I hope Americans realize that and let the two countries cooperate like friends.

No.13 Well actually most of the name of foreign countries in Chinese are just transliterations. For example, England is transliterated as “英格兰”(Ying Ge Lan) in Chinese. While making a name (not a transliteration) for England, they just simply take the first letter “英” (which, by accident, means "bravery" in Chinese) and add a “国”(which means "Nation" in Chinese) behind it. Other (but not all of the) foreign countries's name are formed in similar way like this, like the France (transliteration in Chinese: “法兰西” Fa Lan Xi; name in Chinese “法国”), the America (transliteration:“美利坚” Mei Li Jian; name: “美国”), etc. All those names are just transliterations and do not contain any meaning in Chinese, including flattering.

    • @Lee-qq7mj
      @Lee-qq7mj 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

As for those countries which have "land"(which sounds like "兰" Lan in Chinese, and “兰” means orchid) in their English name, their Chinese name are transliterations, too. But curiously while making names for them the Chinese didn't add the letter "国" behind their first word in their transliteration but simply use their entire transliteration as their name in Chinese (Why? I don't know. Maybe the Chinese people do). Like Ireland (name: “爱尔兰” Ai Er Lan), Poland (name: “波兰” Bo Lan), Finland (name: “芬兰” Fen Lan), their name in Chinese are also their transliteration in Chinese.

In fact most countries' Chinese name were translated to the most likely sounded characters in Chinese, but since many characters sound the same,we chose the better meaning ones(it depands ur coutry powerful or not in the past time),just like America (meiguo-beutiful country),England(yingguo-hansome country) .I guess Canada didn't deal with China that much in earlier,Canada was translated as jia na da(the three devided characters mean plus-take-big),quite like it's original sound and no special meaning.Sorry to disappoint u :(

Thats the scary thing about China. It is already this powerful as a developing country, second to the United States. What happens when most of their population starts to urbanize and as of right now they are only half way done with their industrial revolution. Imagine in 2030 to 2050 what this country will look like. Scary.

Going to China now is like going to the U.S. 100 years ago, or the UK 300 years ago, it's the future. It will be hard for the world to adjust to the change, but in the grand scheme of history the centre of the Earth switching back to China is no big surprise. I think a new term will be created to refer to the declining economies of the West (to go alongside NIC, developing, third world etc).

I am a Chinese, and I want to say 13th is not quite accurate. We translate "land" by its sound in English, and we just use the Chinese character "orchid" to denote the sound, (the pinyin of "orchid" in Chinese is "lan"),but I don't think most Chinese would think the sound of "land" actually has any meaning in the context of a country's name, just like you won't think "infantry" has anything to do with" infant".
