    Which transitition are responsible for the colour? Please ans.....

    • @DipakPatil888
      @DipakPatil888 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In UV-Visible spectroscopy, when molecule impinged with electromagnetic radiations (mostly UV-Visible radiations in UV-Visible spectroscopy), the electronic transitions occurred within the molecule.
      The compound is colorless in UV region whereas it is colored (i.e. seen with eyes ) in the Visible region.
      Mostly the conjugation of the chromophore (many times double bond or aromatic system with alternate double bonds within structure increases the length of chromophore) which gives color to the compound.
      eg. beta-carotene a polyene having 11 alternate double bonds.
      As the length of conjugation increases, the energy required for transitions will be less, due to which compound absorption wavelength shifts towards longer wavelength means towards the visible region.
      This is also the principle of many chemical derivatizations/colorimetric methods.
      The transitions prominent within visible region is pi to pi star.

    Sir, how to predict that which molecule have the minimum €max in uv spectroscopy..

    • @DipakPatil888
      @DipakPatil888 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You mean minimum lambda max?
      The shorter wavelength of absorption will depend on the chromophore of the compound. Which transitions will occur in the molecule when it has interacted with UV-Vis light.
      e.g. Alkanes has the shorter wavelength of absorption (high energy is required) to cause sigma to sigma star transition.
      Less amount of energy than alkane is required for alkene compounds as pi to pi star transition requires less amount of energy. So, it is absorbed at a longer wavelength as compared to alkanes.
