Should be a timing chain, not belt. Manufacturers cutting costs.

      Agreed

Should be iron timing gears and flathead like the old Briggs & Stratton tried and true, simple design!!

@ChillkootMarkowee I about puked when I seen it has a timing belt. Who puts a timing belt in a small engine. That's just asinine

What would cause this; stretched belt, tensioner issue?
    Do they have a tensioner?
I’m considering a new mower but plastic carbs and plastic cams on B&S engines and Honda timing belts and auto choke seem to leave me with only a choice which one isn’t as bad.
Can I just change an auto choke to a manual choke by adding a cable and removing the auto choke plug/piston?

They have no tensioner. Wear can cause this. I have found this to common with over heating as well. I am not sure why but almost ever single time this happens with a good belt on a non over heated engine it has been on a pressure washer. To convert over you actually need a lot of parts. New braket, linkage, and cable. Plus the carbs coke butterfly is different so you will most likely need a new carb. You can however switch that out. I don't like the autochokes. Yes they can be annoying but they are cheap easy fixes

I was watching a few videos on this and the older engines have a valve cover without a belt guide

@@PNWSmallEngineandLawn what would be your pick for most reliable engine made in 2020-2022.. I'm working on something I want to sell to the public but I want to use the best of the best. I was kinda in the middle between this Honda and the kawi .. someone told me Kohler but I hate the no oil change bs
The kawi is a great engine but for someone like me with out a contract with the manufacturer it like 300-400 per engine
But it a bullet proof motor seem to be anyways I have used Fc150v and that amazing engine.
The honda is cheaper and has some reliability but seem like when it breaks it a expensive fix. Of course your input plus other small engine repair men would be great.

I would choose a Honda. Most of the issues I see mainly deal with Hondas is lack of maintenance. I have rebuilt three FJ180v and while I will admit these are way easier to work on than a Honda they have some issues I am not a fan of. I have never had to rebuild a Honda gxv160. Honda parts are cheaper and way easier to get.
My main issues with FJ180v is the sump gasket leaking, recoils failing, and broken oil pumps. None of those are difficult to repair however. They also suffer from the standard small engine issues as well but those are more specific to the FJ180v.
Something I really do like about the FJ180v is the large selection of shaft options. Toro for example uses a very specific set up for Thier clutch setup.
      Hopefully this helps

@@PNWSmallEngineandLawn it is helpful thx you... Not sure still I'm kinda in the fence it a choice I don't want to make rash. Wish there was a way to test the reliability of both. Maybe I could use both engine for a year and see which one work best.

Something that I forgot about. Last month I bought a fj180v for a Toro and I can tell the manufacturing of the fj180v in my opinion isn't as good as the older models. But I also haven't had to work on a newer gxv160 yet so I don't know if this is also happening with Hondas
