    I can see how the compressor trick would work as long as the diaphragm is intact and the isolation valve is open to allow the water to be pushed back out into the pipework (that's how it works normally with the air pressure acting as a cushion). However if the diaphragm has failed then the air will just go straight to the top leaving the water where it is in the tank. Not to mention with that much pressure in a compromised vessel, there's a chance it could explode.

    • @gidzey4783
      @gidzey4783 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yup. I use my milwaukee m12 inflator all the time if the bladder is just stretched. If its failed, i drill a couple holes and let it drain down

  • @PaulDziomba
    @PaulDziomba ปีที่แล้ว +4

    8 zones? That's a lot of thermostat batteries. Whoever designed that system probably expected the expansion tank to outlast the boiler.

    I think the air compressor idea would work if the expansion tank was upside down, because air wants to bubble to the top. With the tank upside right, like this one, the air bubbled through the water in the tank to the top, and got into the heating loop. The water stayed in the tank.

    • @comput3rman77
      @comput3rman77 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Probably would get better results by just pulling the schrader core out and letting it just drain.

    the compressor 100% works. i do it all the time. drain the whole tank right into a 5 gallon bucket through the boiler drain. an amtrol 30 that's full holds exactly 5 gallons of water

    I don't' know what genius started putting the expansion tanks upside down with a vent conveniently located right above it. If the tank was turned the other way the air couldn't leak out of it .That's the way all well pump tanks are oriented. This way if the bladder gets a slight leak it goes right out the vent.
