I lost my good buddy to this last Saturday. I had no idea this was even a thing. One second he was fine, then the next he was dragging his hind legs behind him and crying. Took him to the emergency vet and had to put him down. The shock of it all still hasn't worn off.
We had to put my Luke down on Friday night. He was perfectly fine, until he began screaming in pain and he was crawling around confused and terrified. The Vet was so kind, but said it was hopeless. He was my forever friend for almost 16 years. I'm dizzy with grief.
I bet Luke had a great life with you, that’s what matters most I find. They all leave us at some point, sadly they don’t stick around until we go… our Cowboy got hospitalized this morning for the same and we are waiting to hear updates, but don’t have much hope…
@@terriblepainter7675 thank you so much for your kind words. I hope the best for Cowboy, adorable name, by the way. But if it's saddle thrombus, there's nothing they can do. A blood clot gets jammed into the vein to the back legs and kills the legs, causing the cat intolerable pain. Again, I truly hope Cowboy pulls through.
@@terriblepainter7675 the worst part is that I lost Luke's twin brother Duke in September to diabetes. I was just getting over Duke's passing when this happened. It's not been a good time for my forever friends.
@@curtmiller6484 Thanks for your response. Unfortunately, Cowboy didn’t pull through and his body gave up and passed on at the 47 hour mark. He leaves a big void for us and our 2 female cats of which one of them had a very strong bond with him. Cowboy was a very happy, friendly cat who found every opportunity to roll over for you to get belly rubs or he would run to you with a tail up when you just called the dog’s name… He had a good life and would have already been euthanized in the kill shelter where we adopted him in 2010. He was a black fluffy cat and the ward told us black cats have slim chances in their shelter. It doesn’t seem fair when they pass on too close from each other, hopefully your pain eases soon . We lost our 4 year old Buddy to this horrible disease this morning. One minute he was fine and the next he was crying in agony and couldn't move his rear legs. We immediately rushed him to the vet, but half way there he passed. We are heart broken. He brought so much joy to our lives.
I am SO sorry. This happened to my 4 year old female kitty, exactly as it happened to yours. This was 3 years ago and I still cry just thinking about that day. I am so paranoid with my new kitty, I'm always watching everything she does, worrying that she is sick.
This happened to my 12 yo kitty. 5am, he was howling, dragging himself on the floor, rushed him to the vet. I had to put him down. I miss him every day.
I have a cat that I hand feed since birth and she developed this condition. Took her to the vet and got the bad news. She doesn't cry or whine, in fact she purrs alot when I pet her but I think that I will have to put her down so she doesn't have to endure the pain that's in the future. All I do is cry, either because she is going through this or the thought of puttiing her down. It's so amazing how animals inpact our lives without demanding much from us other than a little love.
I lost my cat to this in April. I came home and found him on the floor yowling and couldn’t use his rear legs. Took him to the emergency clinic never expecting this to be fatal. Omg did my heart break when I learned I was going to have to put him down. The way everything happened was so sudden and unexpected it just so overwhelmingly sad I hadn’t cried that hard since I was a kid. I miss my little buddy but we shared 14 great years.
Same thing happened to my cat last night, it was so abrupt and scary to see your loved one in such pain knowing you can’t do anything. It’s even worse that it’s completely unexpected we had absolutely no idea what was until until we were at the vet:(
We just lost our cat Angel last night because of this. It will break your heart watching this condition cause you to have to do the unthinkable to end the severe pain in your cat. She was 11 years old.
My cat got this today, but not in pain, she's at the vets now over night, her back legs just went this morning. She was so quite at the vets, she all I have, im dreading a call from them, im heart broken. She was my family, I live alone.
My 4 year old cat has this. He was jumping around running and energetic right before he collapsed on hind legs. Took him straight to emergency vet. He luckily could come back home with me after 1 day in intense care at vet. just taking meds and im keeping him warm and safe at home hoping for the best.
This just happened to my cat sweets last night, it was such a traumatizing experience when all of sudden his legs went limb and he started to cry. Glad he was brought to the vet and passed away peacefully
@@lilyswal3682 my cats still super young but overweight and his right back leg has seemed weak and he is in discomfort when I touch it. I hope he isn’t experiencing this :( he is not limping or crying but seems like it hurts him
I lost my boy Mika 3 days ago and he was almost 9 years old. We took him to see the vets twice and they didn't realised he had heart disease with saddle thrombus. They thought it was arthritis on the back legs or spine. Within a week, it deteriorated so fast that he was motionless with difficult breathing. We took him again to the emergency hospital and another vet suspected he actually had heart disease and blood clots on the back legs since he was a Maine coon and they prone to have it. We decided to put him to sleep and no more suffer for him. I am so devastated with a broken heart.
This just happened to my cat this past Thursday. It was the 2nd episode he had. The first time, it was very mild, he limped and cried a little but not too bad and got over it. But this past Thursday was horrible. Out of nowhere, he threw up and started limping all over the place crying, dragging his leg. trying to hide. I could tell how much pain he was in and had no idea what was going on. Took him to an emergency hospital, and after a four hour wait for them to even check him out, the dr. told me what it was and I just broke down. Felt the best thing for him was to euthanize him. I'm still real troubled by how it all happened, it was so shocking and scary.
How long in between did it happen to your cat? It happened to my cat last week I rushed her to the vet but she survived that ordeal and looks totally normal now but they told me she has this fatal condition. I'm expecting her to die any day but she just looks like her normal self but she had an episode last week or her back legs stopped working and she was screaming and crying so I picked her up and brought her to the vet and then she started walking again and has been okay since but I'm sure the condition is going to come back so I'm wondering how long after the first time it happened to your cat did it happen the second time.
we are currently going through this with our cat. Suddenly she couldn't use her hind legs and even her tail is affected. Took her to an emergency vet yesterday. Decided not to put her through all the rigorous and expensive testing and brought her home to care for her. She will see her vet on Thursday where we will probably make the decision to let her go if this hasn't improved. I love her dearly but won't let her suffer. Zeva is her name and she is almost 10 years old. Never saw this coming. My cats usually live from 12 - 16 yrs old.
My cat was hiding one its own this morning, I found her and her back legs were gone. I took her straight to the vet. Shes got this and I had to leave her over night, she was not howling in pain, she was not herself though and they gave her morphin. They said cats don't allway show pain, im dreading a phone call. If she recovers which is doubtful. Vet said she needs phisio and will not live a long time and could get this again. Im heart broken she all I have. I have no family or anyone, She is all I have. And when I walked away tonight I felt like she looked at me to say why are you leaving me here.
I'm so sorry for your loss. Mine passed away 2 days ago, and the vet believes this was the cause. I wasn't home. I know he suffered, but I hope it wasn't for long. He would have been 10 years old on October 1st.
My last two cats both got this, it was AWEFUL to watch, they were both crying in agony. They also can go into congestive heart failure and that adds to their suffering.... I had both of them humanely euthanized as it was the best option per the vet.
It’s such a traumatizing experience and it comes with no warning, my cat was playing all day and seemed perfectly fine then it just came out of nowhere:(
The studies for cats are almost ready to be published. Studies for dogs and humans have already been published. Most vets aren't aware of the studies being done and won't be on board because it's not published for cats yet, but the proof is there.
