👍 Thank you for a knife review that did NOT show battoning or hacking down large trees. As you pointed out those are axe or hatchet chores. I found the camping tasks you did very realistic and examples of how a knife should be evaluated. I was not surprised by the slashing & stabbing examples as that was one of the main purposes when this knife was developed. However, if you must depend on a knife for self defense you are a victim of very poor planning. You successfully demonstrated that if this KaBar was your knife of choice you would not be disappointed when using it for normal camping chores. I would have liked to have seen you process a fish with it. Your slicing of the pork loin and chicken gave me a good idea how it would work processing small game. Many people forget that when the Mountain Men of the 1820s & 1830s carried belt knives they were for game processing and food prep, not fire prep or shelter building, they had hatchets and axes for that. Good video. Thank you.
Case Knifes and others make an incredible version of the USMC Fighting Utility knife. I have seen several manufacture’s of this knife in U.S. Marine Corps armories for the thirty years I was on active duty.
Amazing review 👏 thank you for a great realistic review of the kabar...any knife can be destroyed witch makes zero sense to me I value my tools & a kabar is a lifetime blade thank you for sharing brother 🇺🇸
Good video BUT The Ka-Bar is not a Bushcraft knife.... it is a self-defense knife the thrust or stabbing. Its a fighting knife, it says it in the name... If you want to get a knife for Bushcraft, then buy a Bushcraft knife (or) get a hatchet to go with this knife in the woods, because this is for slicing cutting, stabbing, Maybe little carving, Cutting string/ropes. ITS NOT FOR A PRY BAR or to baton though wood. I know it's good for what its made for, but its not a good bush craft knife, they snap easily when prying sideways. I had to repair a friend of mine's that belong to his grandfather because the tip snapped and the handle so I had to weld it and restore it for him it took quite a bit of work to make it look original again.
They are not stainless, so they require upkeep. But holy crap can they be sharpened. The leather handle and sheath is old school, they do have modern plastic for both. KA-Bar also makes a wide variety of knives.
I just got a brand new kabar that I ordered a few days ago (probably my 10 or 11th one!) and I still Love Kabar, not just the knife, but also in reverence, and knowing the fact that our soldiers used this knife to defend our freedom, so needless to say, I will always have a soft spot for Kabar. What upsets me is that certain people and knife manufacturers, who obviously boast in the "Made In China" knives, beat on Kabar and then blame the knife when it's a combat knife made for specific purposes. Obviously, the knife will fail at some point, but let us remember that it is a utility knife, not an unbreakable piece of steel, or pry bar. Let us have reverence for those who served to defend the very freedoms we have, and continue to have, by owning this very valuable piece of history. Maybe these people should just move to China if they love those other knives and other Chinese-made things more, those who degrade the Kabar, maybe they would love living in an Orwellian State where their every move is monitored.
I've just gone back to the KaBar due to age and arthritis (73 years).now that I've gotten used to using it again I'm ready to hone the edge. I could use some advice. I'm inEllsworth Falls are you nearby or can we speak via phone? Excellent video. Andrew Geraghty
@andrewgeraghty4708 I'm actually a number of hours south of you down in the midcoast area. As far as getting a good clean edge, to be honest, it's really tough to beat the work sharp electric sharpeners. They make a few of them, and really they're all just great, in my opinion. They are like a mini belt grinder, super easy to use and super compact. It's what I use. I hope that helps. Have an amazing day.
I traded one of my navy combat knives to seal scary to Marin and back in they were issued one in Boot Camp with their social on it but he wanted that slick seal knife so badly he treated me even over and I still got that keyboard and she’s at razor Sharp
Sie können sie an verschiedenen Orten finden, aber meiner Meinung nach ist es am einfachsten direkt bei Amazon. Stellen Sie nur sicher, dass Sie tatsächlich die echte KaBar von Olean New York erhalten.
I just dont understand why they dont just make it full tang, maybe a little thicker and a different steel maybe.. Like springsteel like the glock... It would be just amazing
Cool video but let's be real upfront. This is not a Bushcraft knife. It was never intended as one. It was meant as an option when all others have failed in a close fight. That being a Fight for Your Life. That being said of course it was on your person and you were going to use it for other things. Civilians don't often find themselves in those situations and while this can take some abuse there are other and better tools for camping needs these days. If camping needs are your intention. Otherwise this knife is exceptional at what it's made for. I would recommend putting O-rings in the grooves to invert the grip. Cool video thanks for doing it
Er no, the knife was designed to be a utility knife first for any day to day chores etc etc that a soldier in the field may face. And secondly it was to be used as a fighting knife. Hence the official title of utility/fighting knife given to it by the military. So it would make a extremely good bushcraft knife as it was designed for such tasks first.

@ROE1300 thank you for watching, and for the thoughtful comments my friend! Merry Christmas, and have an amazing day.
Yes, this is exactly how the KA-BAR USMC knife ought to be used in the wood, simply as a knife.
Thanks for a sober and realistic knife review.
Most useful and practical review I've seen of the knife. Thanks.
Thanks so much!
Wonderful knife. Amazing knife. Now a days people want to use a knife as a heavy axe. Wonder why... Kabar is AMAZING. So is Buck.
Case Knifes and others make an incredible version of the USMC Fighting Utility knife. I have seen several manufacture’s of this knife in U.S. Marine Corps armories for the thirty years I was on active duty.
My Kabar from my Marine service was Cammilus
Amazing review 👏 thank you for a great realistic review of the kabar...any knife can be destroyed witch makes zero sense to me I value my tools & a kabar is a lifetime blade thank you for sharing brother 🇺🇸
Great video loved being outdoors with you cooking your chicken and testing the KaBar knife.
Thanks!
@andrewgeraghty4708 thank you so very much for the super thanks. It means a ton!
Dude... awesome video!!!
@ajaytomasiv6593 thank you!
The kabar was designed as a utility/fighting knife.
Primarily its a utility knife, for daily chores and secondly as a fighting knife
The ka bar is a good light duty knife
Jack of all trades it is . 👌
Good video BUT The Ka-Bar is not a Bushcraft knife.... it is a self-defense knife the thrust or stabbing.

Nice and purdy! Nifty. Not light. Hope it is tough enough!
Talk to those vets that used them.

The Hinderer Kabar is full tang, a little thicker and in 3V. Significantly more expensive though.
Boy you mudered that loin! I hope you are not planning of eating it after this review 😂😂😂

It worked for me lol
Marine not MarenAnd K bar not Keyboard damn auto correct
Bottom line, most knife, least weight.
Oh-lee-ann N.Y.
Poor trees
Basic lesson for all Americans from Europe: a knife is for stabbing and cutting.... An axe is for chopping. Just LEARN.
Good "point" lol.
Why do you hurt trees for no reason?
