Without my notes and my recordings this video is a little bit different. This fortress was a ton of fun though so I had to find a way to document it!
and i hope you return to it too its clearly got a story that needs to be recorded into DF history.
As a new player, it's really cool and beneficial to see these stories. Gives a bit of meaning and context to the whole "losing is fun" that gets thrown around. Thanks for uploading this!
Yeah, its just how things play out sometimes. You'll have plenty of forts that can go on forever but just as many that die within the first few years over something catastrophic lol

i had the same thing happen when i sent 50 unarmed dwarfs with my armed squad against an undead siege and now have 30 heavily injured dwarfs both undead and barely alive stacked ontop of each other in a newly assigned hospital.
These stories are just beautiful chaos and I'm here all the way
Protip: Don't build your levers to shut gates right beside the gates! Getting close to said lever will bring the enemy towards you which is probably not what you want. Instead I typically put them near a room with many dwarves in it deep in the fortress, and typically have a door in front of them so I can lock it if needed.
This format works as well. Love your videos!

i love these tales!
I've been playing on a volcano island myself. My first time playing. I'm having a hard time having fun. There is an edge of the summit that towers even over the pool of lava, my dwarves call this hollowed out edge home. above it is a another flat plain many trees. I made around 50 bed rooms and that is practically all i had been doing as my population kept doubling out of nowhere, I was able to keep my dwarves fed with a single moderate farm patch and gathering. No water source but practically endless alcohol, more than we could carry anyway. However in the middle of my base, despite all ends being sealed and no gap existing above or below Giant crows and albatross spawn out of nowhere in droves and always end up killing a dwarf or two before they are subdued. I cannot figure why it is happening and there's no reason it should they literally appear directly in the middle of the massive wave of bedrooms hallway. Dwarves die of dehydration despite having all they could ever want to drink, and the game is so broken you can steal a caravans entire stock by deconstructing your trading depo after they unload their goods. Not that trading is too difficult anyway as I was quickly adapted into the past time of selling crutches.
I fail to understand why is this gruesome massacre of a story was kinda soothing...

Be Warned: I have heard that if you retire and then unretire a volcano fortress there is a glitch that changes the z level of the magma in the volcano, potentially causing it to "erupt" and cover most of the surface with lava.
I also hate it when my hair gets caught in my headphones

you have a way of creating these storylines that seems effortless :D you could make 10 episodes about the zombie battle over the lava moat and i would watch them, but instead u just unpause! :D

Glad i found your channel really like how you tell the little stories loads of fun and ideas, I see you also played it pre steam. As a new player i was wondering what you think of this version, You had a video of you as a dwarf going around looking at you old forts, Was that adventure mode as it look cool to visit places.
thank you, yeah I played it pre-steam and there are a couple things that I miss from that version - alerts, being able to look at reports and announcements whenever I want, having all the keybindings memorized - but overall the new version is great.
That was adventure mode in that video and I'm very excited to see what they do with adventure mode when they eventually add it to the steam version!

I love these little stories, and although I don’t have the time (nor the money, thanks to chrostans shopping ;) )to play Dwarf Fortress, I started understanding some mechanics of the game. Have you tried making a tiktok account and posting some shorts there? It might help getting some traffic to your channel, since these videos tend to go viral pretty fast :))
the game is free on bay12 and has been since forever, and it has been updated recently to include the ui changes

I planned on buying df since august, but my only impediment were the controls, so I'll train first on the new UI update and then next year I'll buy it as fas as I can.

So uh... what happens if you just let the entire population become either undead or necromancers?
werelama attack my fort, slowly everyone turn into a werelamma, my Militia got destroyed, except my militia commander, she killed them all, the brutally of the battle turned her into a savage with unbreakable will, and legendary combat skill, now she lead a new generation of immigrants my fort goes on.
If you don't want one bar to take one space in a stockpile you can enable bins. Unlike Rimword you don't need massive stockpiles if you use bins. Of course then you get bin bugs but whats a little bugs in a dwarf fortress game.
thanks for the tip but I'm not a huge fan of bins. I like my gold spread out and easily visible!
