    I love this guy. He's so right about needing help figuring out pronunciation. It took me forever to get five in Chinese b/c I was doing the sound in front of my mouth instead of in the back for the u and no one explained how to produce it - I could tell mine didn't sound the same as the TH-cam teacher.

      Our whole company is built around giving the most meticulous guide to reaching literacy and fluency ever made. Head over to www.mandarinblueprint.com to learn more, but simply put, our "All Course Bundle" (which you can find at www.mandarinblueprint.com/courses) is the way to go from beginner to fluent & literate. How long it takes depends on how many hours a day you spend on it, but I'd say around 1000-1200 hours using our methods (about 1000 hours faster than the Foreign Service Institute estimates).

    I hate to break it to you, but an “A” is not always an “A” in music haha.

    • @jeffcastaneda7010
      @jeffcastaneda7010 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If this was a music lesson, your comment would be highly relevant. But it isn’t. It is a video with advice on how to practice and improve Mandarin. The comment about the A note was only an illustration. Perhaps the use of octaves would’ve been more appropriate, but the idea wasn’t lost for those of us interested in learning Mandarin.

    • @StarChild1109
      @StarChild1109 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      An "A" is an A, is an A in music, regardless of the instrumemt.

    • @mrbluemoose4296
      @mrbluemoose4296 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@StarChild1109 The way I interpret the statement that an “A” is always an “A”is that it is saying that every A is always the same pitch no matter what, which isn’t true for a variety of reasons: 1. Some instruments (transposing instruments) will refer to notes differently than a non transposing instrument would. For example, the trumpet is a Bb instrument, meaning that an A for trumpet players is a G for people using concert tuning. 2. Some ensembles (sometimes even with pop music in post) will brighten/darken the overall sound of the piece by raising/lowering the A that the piece centers its tuning on (most American orchestras use A=440hz, but some European orchestras will use A=442, 445, etc.) 3. The tuning of specific notes can changed based off of harmonic context. If you already knew all of this, then I’m assuming you interpreted the original statement differently.

    what i never hear anybody speak about: In e.g. english there is a preferred way to intonate sentences. Questions, surprise, emphasis and so on. These are deeply ingrained. When you speak chinese as an english native you need to NOT overlay the character tones with the emotional tones. You need to learn how to intonate different tones with different "chinese" tonal emotions. Are you still with me? I am pretty sure a full theory of chinese intonation and how it modifies chinese tones is extremely complex. The question is, how to go about it efficiently.

    • @MandarinBlueprint
      @MandarinBlueprint  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Great question. That is exactly what we do in our course. In a way, you do put stress to the words, the difference is that we don't change the tones but you add more emphasis to the pronunciation.

      The tons and the pronunciations are both different; however, it is quite difficult to distinguish for people who are not familiar. That's why you should learn Mandarin to be able to distinguish between the two!

    thinking that a NATIVE speaker is saying something "incorrectly" is arrogance to the highest degree.
