- First submission to NGC sent back 7 Artificially Toned Coins and I'm going to see if you dip and save them. I'm using E-Z-Est to see if I can dip and remove the tone and have NGC give them straight grades. Stay tuned.

They are back just got them back today. Check out the video and see how they did. 😅Thanks for watching and follow this experiment.

That is a great example of when to clean a coin
Works wonders, I buy lots of PCI coins, I break them out and dip them and submit them for grading, get some super grades. It it 100% worth it. When I wouldnt dip, I would get them back as artifical toning as well, so I resubmitted them and got back MS grades, so now I drip all PCI slabs before submitting for grading
Can’t wait to see the submission result, cool experiment!
Definitely NGC since you cracked it out of NGC
I thinks soo too they look good but they may get cleaned details. Still great luster
Go for broke, send it 2 PCGS
Still trying to talk myself into using E-Zest. Bought it forever ago and just scary, haha. Thanks for sharing.
Don’t rub your fingers over the surface after the dip in the rinse phase!
I'm 60 and second this . do not use fingers.been doing this since 1981.
@buyystocks I dip in distilled water & a little dawn dish soap after the ezest, then rinse using distilled water. Prevents calcium residue if you have hard water.
@@silerak00 ty sounds good
Brighter the better
Keep Stackin bro
"Artificial" means "done by intent". No one sent coins like this to PCI back then with pre-conceived notions that the inserts would react and tone the surfaces of the coins. Therefore, none of these qualify as "Artificial" toning. NGC doesn't understand this concept. PCGS will grade these coins with straight grades if submitted inside the original PCI slab as a crossover. Now, you have created another problem by dipping the coins. You removed the original surface metal of the coin (or skin layer). Yes, the coins appear blast white again. But, the surfaces appear strange and unnatural now. The luster isn't exactly the same as it was with the toning. It's flatter and gives the coin a satiny appearance that the trained grading eye can identify as an attribute of dipping (cleaning or altering the surfaces). Another inappropriate step was rubbing the surfaces with your thumb. Any slight rubbing is enough to impart microscopic flaws into the surfaces of the coin that can be observed under close scrutiny and higher magnifications. The end result is something nobody wants (Improperly Cleaned). PCGS will identify this in a heartbeat. NGC lets it slide. This is why NGC coins trade for less than coins graded by PCGS in the same grade (unless NGC assigns a star * to the grade). Good Luck with the grading! Please don't destroy anymore of these beautiful pieces from here on!
Good luck on the resubmission. Hope it comes back with a grade you're wanting. It will be interesting to find out. Keep up the good work KY.
Thanks brother. I’ll be happy with any straight grade.🤞🏼
@@KY_Coins_and_Collectible-wk7xx fingers crossed!
PCGS for the most part will cross and straight grade toned coins from the older green or gold PCI holders.
I agree, send them back to NGC..this way its definitely an experiment with the same grading company.
Just curious, what convinced you to go with ezest as opposed to MS70 ? I have a few I'm considering dipping (maybe 😅)
MS70, I'm told, is for removing very light toning/discoloration only.
Thanks mi amigo !
I’ve heard and seen MS70 works as well I just happened to have ezest and I could order some and try it as well
Set up control samples if you can.
Yes good idea
This is a great experiment...sub'd
Ld add the e-z-est to distilled water. That stuff is too harsh
Have you thought about using their conservation service instead of risking getting it back as "UNC Details Cleaned"?
I mean, what’s a candidate to artificially tone and submit? Probably an AU/BU 61 tops. Certainly worth the effort to save/preserve the coins l, but I wouldn’t expect any ms64 or higher
Problem with A.T coins is that there so good at it that real toned coins will come bck Questionable toneing I've had a few come bck like that . They had a grade b4 was trying to get a better grade and got a worse grade lol.
Do you have the luster (mirrors) on the obverse in the open fields and between the numbers on the date and lettering on the wording ? Sometimes these areas remain flat after cleaning and is a alarm with graders . Good Luck !!!
Always worry if they almost dipped them out before forcing the toning. Best of luck!
Great video KY coins!
Thanks 🙏🏼
There’s a good possibility you’ll come out ahead. I hope so! I can’t wait to see the results. That EZest is amazing! What are your thoughts about sending some of them to PCGS?
Yea the ezest has been good have to be very careful with it. And the coins you dip need to be MS or high AU or they can tell pretty fast. I have sent some to pcgs in the past but these I want to send back to NGC since they did them before to see if they will grade out and not get a details grade
Don't rub them with your fingers.
When is the update? :)
Just got them back today! Check it out.

sacrilege
PCGS will grade them properly. pci holders are not artificial, whatever they made those old green holders with tones them. Theres bag toning, coin roll toning, coin album toning and now pci is recognized by some as real toning. I would not dip those coins! You could loose lots of money. Artificial is where someone skrews with them to get certain colors. Glad to see pcgs is recognized pci toning. The grades mean nothing...
To me there is an ethical argument on the sale of these altered coins. Your not conserving these acquisitions. Just saying. 😊
Mmmmm, wow it worked better than I thought, one guy did it, didn't work very well!
What is the thing you are putting the coin on to lower it into the e-Z-est? Where did you get it? Thanks.
That Little Dipper came with mine
Here’s the one I got
www.ebay.com/itm/352819402152?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=YQORSq6oR_i&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=9s2NfRzvR-a&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
It's ee-ZEE-est (say "easiest"), not ee-ZEST -- that's why it is spelled "e-Z-est."
This is kinda confusing as to how these coins are toned. I've never seen toning come off so easy. Like what did they use to tone these crayola markers? Lol
It's pronounced "Easiest" like a pun kinda
Did you resubmit the coins yet ?
Not yet doing a video this week on it 👌🏼
Do not EVER CLEAN A COIN.
“Conservation “ 😉 the dipping worked watch my newest video. They came back straight graded.
Wow you have too much money to be playing games like this. Especially if you sent them to NGC in the first place. You said they were PCI so you bought them in PCI then sent them to NGC and now back to NGC again? You don't own a shop or do shows do you?
Pretty sure E-zest wont take away toning
Maybe pcgs will hurry up they take 2-3 months to grade them i mean you could mint the coin in less time than that lol😂
