My Morgan dollar seems to be uncirculated- no scratches or marks on the fields, no wear as described in this video, but it doesnt seem to have luster. It is very tarnished/toned- perhaps it needs to go through restoration. Any thoughts?
I’m worried mine may be fake it’s a 1883 , has unusual patina that seems , I bought it at my local coin shop and the guy never tests anything in front of me .. he buys from people and I’m wondering if he knows that these may be fake ? How can I approach him about the Morgan’s he has ?? Do I just say hey can you test this for me before I buy them ? I picked this one because it looked like the most worn one with the most details but I’m kinda regretting that now because I have now learned that these are fakes a lot . 2:20 It should be pointed out that several dates are notorious for weak strikes, especially several New Orleans years. Those weak strikes resulted in smooth, flat surfaces on the obverse hair above the ear and on the breast feathers on the reverse. That could be seen as wear, but it's not. Those coins can still receive high mint state grades.
