“When that balloon re-inflates...” this is why I will never go back to my old way of eating and living. I don’t see Keto/carnivore as a quick fix but a lifelong journey. Thanks Doc!
I have re-inflated the balloon several times unfortunately. Your mentality is perfect...guess what? Every time I ballooned back up, the skin is so much worse when it deflates *sigh
Perfectly said. I don’t care if another arm grew out the back of my head this lifestyle I’ve been living over the 3 years is worth it. The countless health benefits are far greater than a little extra skin in a few places. It’s a badge of honor.
I lost over 80 pounds and yes the excess skin drove me crazy....but over a year later it has greatly shrunk. I use intermittent fasting and hope autophagy is slowly eating up that excess skin and it seems to be working. Slowly, surely not a quick fix. I also take collagen, biotin, vitamin C, etc etc so the new skin cells being formed are as healthy as possible. I personally don't think anyone should consider surgery unless they have waited at least two years since their weight stabilized.
I lost 130 pounds. 1. I read our skin completely regrows every 6 months (i think) 2. autophagy works. and 3. exercise is vital. After 3 years I have barely any loose skin and I'm 51 years old, so this is not fresh young skin lol
@@lisahabedank yes exactly. I am 59 so no young skin here! LOL. My arm wings are gone, but still some belly saggy skin. But I lost 20" on my belly. That is a lot of skin to reabsorb.
My husband lost 120 lbs through water fasting (14 days every month) and alternate-day fasting. He is a a bio-chemist and was determined to stimulate autophagy as much as possible. He also took supplements (magnesium, potassium and salt) when on a long fast. He lifted weights to increase muscle strength. He does have some loose skin but the increase in muscle mass has minimized the look of it. He now maintains his weight with a low carb healthy meal plan and eats within a 4 hour window each day. He does water fasting twice a month for the health benefits now. He looked at his weight loss journey from a scientific approach and read countless research papers. He is 67 years old but people think he is in his 50s. He ran his first half marathon and continues to lift weights.
That's amazing well done to your husband, he's lucky to have your support. How long did it take him to lose the 120lbs please? I have a friend who needs to lose that exact amount I might suggest the water fasting to him.
@@Pomsbunny It took my husband 10 months to lose 120 lbs. The first few months he did extensive water fasts since he had so much fat that it would be impossible for the body to use his lean muscle for fuel. He started out with 21 day fasts and then did 14 day fasts with a few weeks of OMAD in between fasts. He always made sure he took his mineral supplements. As he approached is goal, his water fasts were 3-5 days, no longer.
I went in for breast surgery consult, was major hard sell, up sell, and then fear factor, wanting me to sign right then. Worse than a car dealership. I ran and never looked back.
Fasting is one of the few things that have helped me reduce my excess skin, which I've tracked through my stretch marks (stomach, hips, shoulders, triceps) shrinking and lightening up.
@@managingmin Yup! The ones on my stomach have shrunk dramatically and are now only a lighter shade of my skin and not purple/red, but the others have only faded in colouration while not tightening up as much as the ones on my stomach/hips.
Fasting is working slowly for me too. Lost 75 pounds over a 3-year period, but still have loose skin. I do a 36 hour fast once a week and a 72 hour fast once a month. My hubby said he can see my skin is tightening up.
Thank you Dr Cywes!!! At 55 years old, membership in a recovery program helped me to let go of 167 lbs slowly over a 3 1/2 year period! The time it took to lose that weight helped me to heal body, mind, and spirit and to slowly adjust to my new body shape. Recovery programs are not a quick fix, we learn, over time, a sane way of living and coping with life without harming ourselves with food or anything else! I exercise by walking and gentle yoga. I was left with a wrinkly face, saggy neck, belly, and thighs but was grateful for all the benefits that come along with reducing my body size by half! Natural skin repair didn't happen in a year but I was surprised that even at my age my neck now looks normal and the belly and thighs have slowly improved! I'm grateful to have sanity around food and look a bit better than my age, in clothes. I even look OK in shorts! Without clothes, I don't look the way I did in my 20's, that is for sure, but even at 65 years old by my following a healthy (Keto) food plan, I don't need medications, have plenty of energy, feel upbeat, and I'm happy to have all my own body parts in good working order! :) Bless you Dr Cywes, Thank you for all you do to help us improve our lives!
Good observation on how fat people avoid looking at their bodies. But after losing the massive weight we tend to be obsessed about our lose skin. I’ve just hit the 100 pound lost goal this month. I’m hesitant in joining a gym because I’m not sure if I can maintain that life style in the long term. Very good advice on lose skin surgery. Thank You. I will probably just keep my shirt on in public. Overall fitting comfortable in 32 waist slacks from a 42 waist is good looking enough. Leaving behind the XXX shirts to a regular large is great too !
I've always been obsessed about how I look and have body dismorphea as many of us with eating disorders do. But what I have a problem with now is I still see myself as fat. I went from morbidly obese to now considered overweight. Which pisses me off. Weight charts claim in should be 135 and I did get down to 134 and I looked horrible! I looked at least 10 years older. So I gained some back and 145 is fine! For God's sake I was 306 pounds. And my drs agree and tell me not to worry about the charts. I am also short..lol I went from 5.4 to 5.2 after losing. Feet were fat..hehe.
@@michaellopez5684 couldn't agree more! Autophagy, IF (with 72-120hr fasts) made wonders to my skin! Apart from this carnivore with a lot of collagen :-)
Thank You so much for this! I'm a grown man here crying because every word you said hit home!! It's awesome to hear from a Doctor who has gone through this battle.
I am 5'10" and I went from 230 pounds to 168 pounds. I had no loose skin at the end. I credit this to two things. I took about a gram of niacin per day and ate low protein and low fat in addition to being on keto. My moles even shrank down to freckles. I had a scar from a large mole that removed off my body thirty years ago disappear. That scar was horrid cause the sutures popped 2 days after the removal and my derm doctor said it will fill in and look awful but its on your hip so no bid deal. That scar looked like a freakish looking bloodshot bluish eyeball for thirty years and the damn thing is gone. My stretch marks even got eaten by my body almost completely. I had really bad stretch marks in both arm pits from years of lifting weights and bench press giving me large pecs. Niacin would have seriously been dilating my blood vessels close to the skin and my low protein diet and basically starvation would have been causing autophagy to grab anything with protein in it that isn't critical and break it down for new tissue from my moderate workouts. I never understood why a fat person that has large muscles from carrying around all that extra weight would be eating protein in large amounts on keto......or fat for that matter. You only eat lots of fat until you are fat adapted. I ate about 50-60 grams of protein per day and often went as low as 25gms. I know I lost muscle too and that is fine. My size 12 shoes wouldn't fit anymore and I had to buy size 10.5-11 which is the size I wore in high school. This all took about 4 months to happen. The body can do strange ass shit when you give it no choice. Hope this helps someone.
There's a big difference between losing 100+ lbs and losing 60 lbs. It seems that major loose skin is a larger issue the more weight you lose over 75 lbs. Other things that affect how much loose skin one has and how much it will bounce back are age, the length of time spent in obesity, whether one has done yo-yo-ing, and the condition of the skin. Some people are just born with skin that has great snapback. This shows in the difference in snapbacks of some women who have babies, never get stretch marks, and within a few weeks, their abdomens are as flat as they were before pregnancy. It's also evident in people who always look 20 years younger than they are and never do anything to their skin other than basic skincare. Unfortunately, most people do not have that type of skin.
@@meglukes- yeah, everything I’ve heard is that high fat, moderate protein (making sure to get enough) is VERY important for skin. They are both building blocks for the body, so I would never go that route. Sounds like someone who is a vegan perhaps. Although, Dr. Cywes does talk about eating higher fat until you’re fat adapted, then lowering it when you’re trying to lose fat, and then upping it again once you’re in maintenance. Dr. Elizabeth Bright talks about fat being extremely important, especially for female hormones. It’s kind of an experiment as far as determining what works best for you.
Great video and advice. I’ve seen a video with a plastic surgeons pick to pieces a beautiful women because she had the smallest flaws. It is sad. Then the same woman visited another doc and he tells her that she is beautiful, why does she want work done? That was refreshing. She ended up not getting surgery.
I've lost and am maintaining 160 pound weight loss... I have tons of loose skin despite exercising 15-18 hrs per week. I would love for the hard work and muscles I have earned to also take care of the loose skin... but as you described it doesn't... I wish there was a non surgical option but I at least know I am doing what I can... for now "pride in effort " will do... thanks for the video!!
There is possible non surgical method, but it requires extended fasting, like 6+ days, which can cause the body to go into a deep starvation state and starts burning muscle extensively for fuel. From my own understanding, you can do a weekly/biweekly 3 day fast which help keep the body recycling destroyed/faulty proteins (loose skin in this case) while not dipping into starvation.
@@usedcolouringbook8798I recently did a 40 day water fast (broke the fast on august 20th) and did not lose muscle and my body did not go into starvation mode. It’s hard to transition back to eating again after an extended water fast, but it can be done and the results are worth it.
@@usedcolouringbook8798the body won't use muscle when in autophagy. It will use the unnecessary skin and anything else not needed by the body. It's like a reset. It will only use muscle when fat, skin and everything has been exhausted. Intermittent fasting for 2 or 3 days is enough to get this happening. It takes time to lose it all and can be helped through building muscle.
Hey doc, I think you look great! And I think it is interesting how you are looking better than you did on the videos that were made a year or two ago. Your face and neck skin look much firmer and you look more handsome and younger than you did in earlier videos. Isn’t lchf amazing? I have noticed the same thing with Dr. Berry, y’all are reverse aging, looking younger and better with each passing month. As always, thank you for your work. God bless!
Hello from Australia. Thank you so much for your brilliant educative vlogs Dr Cywes. You and Dr Berry have changed my life. Within 3 weeks of starting a Ketovore lifestyle my BP plummeted and I had to stop taking my hypertension meds! I can't thank you enough for your generousity in providing a wealth of easy to understand and follow health information - I feel I'm getting better at managing my own health instead of relying completely on medical professionals (I was raised to believe that doctors advice must be followed and never questioned!). You have my absolute respect for what you're doing to help us all. Bless you ❣
As someone that has struggled with Anorexia, Bulimia, now Binge eater....we do not look at our bodies either. I see my face. I am thin, but I don't feel that way. That's my disordered eating brain.
Really learn how to love yourself in all your flaws. To love ones self is the greatest love affair of all. Be good to yourself, not with things bought, but with the respect your have for yourself and your journey. Embrace that you finally found out the truth about nutrition and that you chose to change your life. Kudos to all that have become healthier out of choice. We are all incredible successes. Thank you Dr, Cywes for addressing this.
Try fasting first as it has been working well for me! This is not a fast fix but is so natural and works well all but slooooooly! When your not just trying but actually loosing fat by switching to a PHD (animal based) use fasting to rebuild and expel the damaged. Your skin will be tore down and used to rebuild healthy every thing around the body. It may take a few years but it will be a healthy few years.
Thank you for the encouraging words. I have lost 135 pounds on Keto - 7 more to go to make weight as a Lightweight Rower (as I was in college). Considered skin reduction surgery and joked with my G.I. doctor when he was getting ready to do a incisional hernia repair last February that if he wanted to try some plastic surgery I was game (two years ago I had an infection and was life-flighted off a cruise ship to Finland where they removed 2/3 of my large intestine and managed to reconnect it without a colostomy...but the original incision opened in my abdomen). It was, however during the recovery from the hernia surgery that kept me from rowing for 5 weeks that I decided that how I looked wearing less than a pair of shorts was not worth the pain of surgery, the inability to work out during recovery, and the risk of infection. I have to admit that I clicked on the link hoping you would recommend some treatment or cream....but also knew that you would say those things are BS!
I cracked up when you were talking about Cindy Crawford. Years ago I bought her skincare products completely convinced I would look just like her. 🤦♀️😳
I'm still in the very beginning of my keto-journey after 2.5 months so far and have already lost about 20 kg. I started doing some low intensity muscle building about a month ago. It helps a little to reduce some excess skin but overall it's always good to train a lot of different muscle. Even if you do very easy 'work-outs' (which you should always start with to not hurt yourself) it will help most of all your brain to reverse also some IR there. You can't ask for more than something that can(!) help you immediately and in the long run especially if you start early with it.
@@robertcywes2966 no, because trolls and haters wouldn't listen. But that shouldn't bother you at all! You are great and the work and knowledge you provide are fantastic, as well as your way of speaking. Seem so en point and effortless! Your information is easy to follow and that is what makes you way better than your trolls will ever be! 😊
@@robertcywes2966 I literally kept saying "whaaaaat extra skin on your neck?" I seriously do not see it. You look amazing, and are a very handsome man! Listen to your wonderful wife, she is 100% correct, you are great just the way you are.💙
Dr Cywes you look fantastic! A sexy beast 😊 women see you as a hottie, we’re not looking for minor imperfections, we take in the whole package. Your wife is fortunate 😂
I was hating my thighs, started biking several times a week and saw a world of difference. My tummy tho, because of having kids, the only thing that will improve that at this point is a tummy tuck. It's not horrible but it would up my self-esteem quite a bit.
That is what I respect about you Dr. the Truth, while others are trying to cash in on others’ problems, there are those who try to solve them like yourself. Thank you Dr. Cywes you sir are doing exactly what you were born to do.
I have Keiser Permanente of WA (state) and I wasn't concerned about the excess skin. The neck bothered me a but but it was better then having a huge fat neck that was ugly and gross and I hated it. I did IF from day one of my keto journey as well as longer fasts. I believe that helped a lot because I lost over 150 pounds in 2 years and my skin is not that bad. Unfortunately I've had a lot of issues with infection and rashes under my belly loose skin. It will not go away and to make a long story short I asked my PCP about it and got a referral to plastic surgery at Keiser and my insurance is going to cover it. I have some other issues down under that need addressing but I've been told they will only pay for the tummy. So I am fine with that. I will probably need to see a urologist for the other or may GYN. I am 59 (60 in March) and I was fat for a long time. Most of my adult life because I am a binge eater. I used to be anorexic. Go figure..traded one eating disorder for another. I hear that happens a lot though. I just don't know if I can "pick" my surgeon so that's something I will have to ask. I see the surgeon on Nov 12th. I'm also scared to have this kind of surgery. I never thought I would be doing it. This information was helpful and I will still ask the questions . My insurance has requirements to get this covered and one of them is to show you've kept your weight steady for at least 6 months and it's been a year for me. I've lost a lot of weight and I'm proud of that. Also like to add, I don't have stretch marks.😊🙃
I read your comment and have been assessed for a tummy tuck, a few years ago now. I’m in the uk so I would have to pay for it. I’ve lost54 pounds which doesn’t seem like a lot, but I had 4 big babies, the 4th when I was 37. 11lb 8 ounces. Through fasting 36 hrs plus, weekly. Sunday evening to Tuesday morning, it has reduced. I’m 66. My son said if he won the lottery he would pay for my surgery, I’m not certain if the time came I would go through with it. Best wishes from Devon uk
Love this!! 81lbs gone and next phase is increasing my muscle mass underneath... massively increased my protein intake also past two weeks had my first gym workout in months yesterday too... thanks for the encouragement!!!
Increasing protein massively is a very bad idea. I weigh 200 pounds and lean mass is about 70 pounds and I only eat half that in protein per day. Meaning, 30 grams of protein per day and I have been building tons of muscle just fine. High protein diet only = kidney disease and not much more
I had skin removed 2 years after 130lbs loss and now i have flat belly on bottom half and muffin top on top half of belly and my mons is like a sac. Loved results of gastric sleeve but regret skin removal. btw was not plastic surgeon that did it. Was all part of bariatric clinic process here in Canada so was no cost. We were told that its not cosmetic surgery....simply removal of excess skin. Im not sure what i expected but it certainly was not the result I got. Cant change it now but if had 2 do it again knowing what I know now I would never have done skin removal. My clothes fit me funny and always have to wear long tunic tops to cover bulge at my crotch. 💔
Thanks for this info. My sister went through plastic surgery, after losing almost 100 lbs. and it's been almost a year, and she still has some swelling. Hubby asked me if I wanted to do that when I get to my goal weight (I've lost 100, with 25 to go), and I said I don't think so. He never had a problem with my weight, but he's happy now that I'm in much better health, and he's fine with the way I look. We're both working out at the gym doing resistance and treadmill, so that, along with some autophagy, will tighten up what's left. Yeah, I'll have some jiggles on arms and legs when in a swimsuit, but I'll have saved some $
I feel like you are psychic doc. LOL Yesterday I was griping about my loose skin and trying to figure out how to finance that. 140 lbs down from nearly 10 years ago, but still have some work to do. I am up 35lbs from my lowest. Great video as always. BTW your wife is awesome!
We need to think more like Dr Cywes. I love it when he calls out the trolls at the end. 😍 I think women especially can benefit from this advice. We tend to care more what other people think about our bodies.
This is good info, but I wish it pushed even more on the utter lack of need to get surgery to remove loose skin for most people. I agree, all the diets and tips for loose skin are snake oils - I see them even listed here - Geez... Anyway. I have tons of loose skin - I have bat wings, I have a loose double chin. You name it, it's loose and does my partner care? HECK NO and he's never had a weight problem in his life. Do you know what loose skin is? It's not a "reminder", but it's a sign that you won that battle with carb addiction! Having loose skin means you've done the work! You should be proud of it! Wobbles and all! Sure, I wear compression garments when I wear a dress, but I'm OK with being the saggy baggy elephant. I look a heck of a lot better being 90 pounds from my top weight. I still am working on a few more pounds, so I'll be even wobblier, but I'm healthy and fit and that is all that matters to me and my partner.
Thank you for this. I am down 65 pounds and have another 65 to go. Skin surgery scares the heck out of me, almost to the point that I want to stop losing weight if that's what comes next!
I am 73 years old I used to be a yoyo dieter ,since last August lost 14kg doing intermittent fasting and going to the gym ,now I am 67 kg 164cm tall And overall I have loose skin especially on my tights my neck and need to do bust surgery,I felt loosing hope here but as you said to try one or two years ,I will give a try by continuing doing what I am doing! Thank you Dr I like your honesty,I live in Tokyo most of my life 🙏❤️ By the way your neck looks great 😊
Autophagy will reduce the excess skin over time. It depends on how much excess skin a person has. It could take up to several years of consistent autophagy for your body to clean up the trash.
Exactly. I'm not in this for a quick fix and at my age I'm well past wanting a hot body. I'm working up to fasting, keto has made a huge difference so I'm excited about fasting.
Oh, I love the honesty. I know that I’m going to need skin removal surgery. I’ve lost weight several times in the past and gained it back but I’m not an age where they are discovering some diseases that I need to get under control so it’s not just about my physical appearance. It’s also about my health. I want to be around.
Had a full abdominoplasty, thigh lift and brachioplasy, all at different times, after losing 40kgs with a lapband. Happiest with the abdominoplasty because even though I regained most of the weight, I kept a flat stomach. Brilliant plastic surgeon. Thankfully due to fasting, I’ve lost all the weight again, got rid of the horrible lapband and have an even flatter stomach, yay. Other two procedures done by a different PS. Still have nerve pain and horrible scars on arms, thighs not too bad scar wise. Guess you can’t win them all.
As a queer person working in the fitness industry undergoing a body recomp journey, this totally helped. First video I’ve seen that addressed the mentality that I’ve had over the past month or so that has stopped me from celebrating a good level of progress. We do avoid having a relationship with our bodies for so long that we create a dysmorophia by the time we get to check in with progress. Thank you.
There are doctors who say that because skin is renewed approximately every 30 days and that autophagy causes the body to consume those bits of you that aren't needed, which is the unnecessary skin. I know this takes time and doesn't happen over night. I wish you'd said more about that. Surgery should be a very last resort, if at all.
Thank you for being there for us and speaking the truth. Brutal honestly is what we need when we are fighting for our lives. Your videos have been a blessing to me on my weight loss journey. I have learned so much from you that has helped me to be successful in achieving a healthy keto lifestyle that I like. I am plateaued for the last two months and still have a ways to go to reach my goal. I hope to get an appointment with you in Jacksonville, Fl. to optimize what I am doing to make my goals a reality. Thank you again for what you do!
Thank you for the information in this video. Excellent points of being patient, working out, making sure you keep a healthy relationship with food and giving it a year or two. I know I am only 8 months into my new lifestyle (eating, exercise and mindset) and have a long ways to go I am anxious at times for transformation. This video was very encouraging. Thank you💗
I've been keto since December of last year. I've lost 27lbs. I've stalled so badly and I still need to lose another 100lbs. I've given up what I want to eat and while my bloodwork has improved, I'm still so fat. 5'4" and 243lbs. I've tried slowly merging into fasting but I feel so awful when I do it. I can't exercise because my knees are shot. I just don't know what to do anymore. I have an appointment with you in November that I made back in Mayish. I'll be glad when I can talk to you face to face and get some help. I have no dr in my area who believes in the benefits of a low/no carb diet.
for your knees i would suggest walking and drinking plenty of water. its great for the sinovial fluid around them. I used to get arthritis in my knees all the time, since i started walking its gone completely. If you cant walk search TH-cam there are some good videos on exercises for your knees. Even sitting on a table and swinging your legs helps. If you do start walking build up gradually, even if you start off only doing 15 mins a day it will be of great benefit and its amazing how quickly you will build upto doing an hour or more each time you go for one. Its also great for your mental health too. Ive been doing Keto for about 18 months, everybody stalls at some point
Intermittent Fasting, starting with 16/8 and moving on to 18/6 and then 20/4 about at about 4 month intervals. Also, stay low carb but reduce the amount of fat you consume daily. Everyone CAN lose weight (I'm very insulin resistant, with severe fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, two full hip replacements and thyroid issues, so I'm speaking from experience) if determined to do so. To break your stall, do a 5-day DIY Fasting Mimicking Diet (google it for details) OR have 2-3 days of just 2 avocados and a large lettuce salad (olive oil and kemon juice dressing) a day. Either approach will get you back into ketosis, after which you can resume your low carb diet but with increased protein and reduced fat intake (5/35/60). For exercise, do chair yoga: you'll find plenty of free chair yoga videos here on TH-cam. Best wishes!
IMO Carnivore is best for intermittent fasting, ketosis, and weight loss. Research it first, be ready for your body adjusting ( diarrhea) to fat burning.
Mermandi76 . stick with the keto..If your not losing weight look at what your eating to check carb content..look for variety in your fod but cut out any sweetners or artificial sugars- they trigger your sweet tooth so easier to do with out. Ease into fasting don't jump in. MAybe see if you can get by on 2 meals and 18 /6 fasting maybe looking to go to one meal a day over time if you need to. When you are truly in ketosis you don't get hungry so one meal is fine. But maintain fluids and salt . And watch as many of Dr Eric Bergs videos as you can find. Also look for different and easy low carb meals the more variety the easier you just pick the ones you like. Its a lifestyle not just a diet. And remember to get any medicine adjustd as you go. I had to stop all my diabetes meds because I don't need them anymore, and my wife had to adjust her thyroid meds - cut them back because she didn't need as many.
Love this! I'm 43, at the beginning of my weight lifting focus journey for the next year before scheduling any consults. I am looking to have 2??? surgeries, a 360 fleur de lis body lift and breast reduction/lift extending into side boob to mini brachioplasty. No more weight for me to lose, only to get more fit and increase muscle%/lower fat%. Bc as you say the excess fat I have is all attached to the skin on my UPPER stomach(apple shaped) and flanks. Been stable many years. Have been following some surgeons for years, but also researching more now. I'm not naive to complications, scars, imperfection. Doing this for myself only and was always the plan(at least the breast reduction, lol!) Have not found any surgeons who seem to really specialize in reconstruction after massive weight loss in my area(Boston) up to my standard as far as pictures I've seen, so I will be traveling(US) for surgery and understand I will need to stay in the area for some time if complications arrive.
Had abdominplasty 2 weeks ago and it was not very expensive, recovery was a breeze (didn't even take painkillers), and results ARE as good as I hoped! Hardest part is no gym for another week :)
I wish I could afford skin removal. Ive lost about 125# kept it off for years now but surgery is so expensive. Ive went to a few seminars and those particular Drs had pictures before and after. It was so hideous I would never let them operate on me!
I continue to be incredibly enriched by your knowledge. You are a beautiful family and your baby is totally adorable. Thank you so much for this contribution to my life.
Excelente video!!! Absolutely agree 👍 plus please please before having any surgery tell your doctor openly and honestly about any herbs, drugs, chemicals, medications you may be taking. People forget / ashamed to tell the doctor about test from TRT, they forget about the recreational marijuana or Kratom and other such items. Super important to tell them about blood thinners, even aspirin, and about 'pre-workout" powders at the gym can have high amounts of nitrates, niacin, L-arginine, or MDMA,...or even things like Viagra. Even non-prescription over the counter medication. In many countries, for example here in Columbia, or when I am in Mexico, you would not believe what is sold at the pharmacy without prescription.
It's a thing for sure...50 lbs for me and now I kinda look like a deflated balloon. Still look OK in clothes and I am clothed more often than not being past 60
I'm 47... my goal is long lasting good health and to look good in my clothes... 45 lbs down and probably 50 to go and sure I expect some extra skin but I have been shocked at how healthy my skin looks this time around... smoother and more evenly toned... and with IF and ketovore eating I don't expect to really need to go the route of Plastics... perhaps a Lazer treatment on my neck and face... but I'm old enough to not need to look fabulous naked.
I have a question regarding loose skin surgery; all the information and videos I have looked at seem to always be treating patients that have gone from obese to what usually still appears to be on the heavier side of the 'normal' weight range. Consequently the loose skin being removed is attached to a very thick layer of subcutaneous fat providing a very mobile interface between the skin and fascia covering the internal frame, what I would like to know is what things would be like for patients that are able to get there weight down to the lower side of 'normal' or even 'athletic' (around 10%). Without all that fat volume and mass providing mobility between the outer skin and the fascia pocketing the underlying muscle how could the excess skin surface area conform to the smaller surface area of the underlying frame besides shrinking? The three possibilities I can imagine are A) The skin must shrink to conform. B) The skin, subcutaneous fat cells, and fascia de-laminates in places to create thin folds of skin disconnected from the fascia. C) The skin puckers up or shrivels (in a similar way to the skin covering a specific region of the male anatomy) with the thickness of the remaining intervening subcutaneous fat varying to compensate.

I have to say I think you're beautiful.....inside and out! I see why your wife feels the same (and obviously more) I appreciate this information so much! Thank you!
This is so spot on. In my case (30 lbs. lost) I am starting weight training to tone and hoping that will help. I do wonder if losing the weight more gradually gives the skin a better chance to adjust?
Found out that rapid weight loss is not advised: one pound a week max. Less risk of muscle loss. Time for skin to adjust. Time for the body to process poisons stored in fat. (Three years ago lost 60 pounds over a six month period. Too fast. Was lucky that it worked out ok).
I didn't realise that this would be a video about skin surgery. I thought it would be about what rate to lose weight at, how to make use of autophagy, what kind of fats to eat to help the skin's elasticity etc.
Dr. Cywes do you have anyone in your group who has consistenly done extended water fasts in attempt to combat excess skin? As in weekly 48-72 hour fasts with 5 day water fast once a month, and doing 20:4 intermitten fasting on the feeding days? I believe fasting to be a great way to combat excess skin due to autophagy.
I think autophagy works to some extent to tighten loose skin if you do it right. Im skeptical, but i will draw some correlations. Here me out: In my experience, a 3 week water fast didnt produce loose skin, i only supplemented with about 500 mg potassium in gel caps. However, a couple years later i got a tiny bit of loose skin after losing 15 lbs from a heavily vitamin supplemented + artificial sweetened electrolyte sips across a month long water fast, visible at the 2 week mark. In the months after the month fast, when i did several 48-72h fasts spaced out about 3 days apart, i didnt notice any extra loose skin, but i wasnt supplementing with anything other than salt, potassium & magnesium. A year later it appears some of the loose skin tightened. Interpret that as you will. I cant say for sure what truly caused my skin to tighten a tiny bit, but it sure doesnt look as baggy as it first did.
I've lost 126lbs so far. I'm fortunate enough that I have no loose skin under my jaw or neck. It makes me look as though I've lost more weight than what I have. I've still got another 50 to 60lbs to lose, but so far, I've got my loose skin starting on my legs and lower belly. My other issue is that, because I've been gaining muscle, it looks on the outside with clothes on that I have a muscly chest and small waist, when in fact its still all fat. My hope is that the fat just disappears and these areas just go flatter. But they really make me worry.
Sage advice, as usual, Dr. Cywes. P.S. no one in their right mind would have any issue with ur appearance. You're extremely handsome, not in a creepy way. Your wife is one lucky lady.
I agree! Doc your handsome! Trolls are jealous of your wisdom and good looks. We dont listen to them. Just typed letters….we disregard them as soon as it’s read. So grateful for people like you. Blessings from TX
Thanks for this amazing info! I've seen some videos to reduce sagging excess skin, but did not really think that would work!! I really appreciate your encouragement!! ❤🤗🙏🙏
“When that balloon re-inflates...” this is why I will never go back to my old way of eating and living. I don’t see Keto/carnivore as a quick fix but a lifelong journey. Thanks Doc!
Exactly !
Well Said
I have re-inflated the balloon several times unfortunately.
@@saltrock9642 congratulations on your journey!
Way to Go!!!! Intermittent Fasting is Very Important and I Do ASV Daily with Pink Himalayan Salt 🧂
Dr. Jason Fung is a big believer in autophagy removing excess connective tissue. Maybe he’s right. It seems likely enough to be true.
Agreed
I lost 130 pounds. 1. I read our skin completely regrows every 6 months (i think) 2. autophagy works. and 3. exercise is vital. After 3 years I have barely any loose skin and I'm 51 years old, so this is not fresh young skin lol
@@lisahabedank yes exactly. I am 59 so no young skin here! LOL. My arm wings are gone, but still some belly saggy skin. But I lost 20" on my belly. That is a lot of skin to reabsorb.
We’re never going to find a doctor to speaks the truth and so intelligently, no charge! We need to be thankful!
And you………?
Role model
I went in for breast surgery consult, was major hard sell, up sell, and then fear factor, wanting me to sign right then. Worse than a car dealership. I ran and never looked back.
Fasting is one of the few things that have helped me reduce my excess skin, which I've tracked through my stretch marks (stomach, hips, shoulders, triceps) shrinking and lightening up.
Great to know. Thanks.
Your stretch marks improved too?
@@managingmin Yup! The ones on my stomach have shrunk dramatically and are now only a lighter shade of my skin and not purple/red, but the others have only faded in colouration while not tightening up as much as the ones on my stomach/hips.
That's encouraging to read! Thank you
Fasting is working slowly for me too.
Grateful to God for all this is absolutely a Joy!
Thanks. All super interesting
How do you do low fat, low protein keto?
Walk fast.
@@usedcolouringbook8798 fasting doesn't waste muscle unless you overdo it. The body isn't stupid...Intermittent fasting works over time.
@@usedcolouringbook8798I recently did a 40 day water fast (broke the fast on august 20th) and did not lose muscle and my body did not go into starvation mode. It’s hard to transition back to eating again after an extended water fast, but it can be done and the results are worth it.
@@usedcolouringbook8798no
@@usedcolouringbook8798the body won't use muscle when in autophagy. It will use the unnecessary skin and anything else not needed by the body. It's like a reset. It will only use muscle when fat, skin and everything has been exhausted. Intermittent fasting for 2 or 3 days is enough to get this happening. It takes time to lose it all and can be helped through building muscle.
EXCELLENT ADVICE......HIGHLY RECOMMENDED BY DR. BERRY FOR GOOD REASON!
I am going to have to remember that quote. "Wallet biopsies". That is so funny, but true.
I love your transparency and clarity in explaining the effect of weight loss.
What about Extended Fasting & autophagy? I hear that will assist in loose skin modification. Thoughts?
I cracked up when you were talking about Cindy Crawford. Years ago I bought her skincare products completely convinced I would look just like her. 🤦♀️😳
(raises hand) ya me too!!
@@tracylinn5669 hahaha!! I'm glad I'm not alone 🤣
Thank you Dr Cywes. I haven t seen you in a month and I think you look even younger now
I'm still in the very beginning of my keto-journey after 2.5 months so far and have already lost about 20 kg.
Good advice. I will try autophagy via fasting - but your advice is still great to hear.
Finally a doctor and surgeon who tells the truth! Thank you for speaking so candidly about a subject that most people do not want to talk about!
I'm so glad you talk real. Trust is wonderful

High protein diet only = kidney disease and not much more
We are blessed to have spouses that love us for how we are. Good people.
Thank you for this. Down 95lbs, but I have a good 70-80 to go. It’s something I think about, and you’re info is helpful.
Yeah, I'll have some jiggles on arms and legs when in a swimsuit, but I'll have saved some $
I enjoy the honesty you always put out. It’s rare these days.
You're a really cool man. Thanks for being here.
Almost all of this advice should be used with *every* medical procedure. Thanks!
This is one of your best work! Bravo to you! I’m glad you’re on this journey with me. ❤️
My husband is grossed out. Do I care? Nope..lol
I am 73 years old I used to be a yoyo dieter ,since last August lost 14kg doing intermittent fasting and going to the gym ,now I am 67 kg 164cm tall
And overall I have loose skin especially on my tights my neck and need to do bust surgery,I felt loosing hope here but as you said to try one or two years ,I will give a try by continuing doing what I am doing!
Thank you Dr I like your honesty,I live in Tokyo most of my life 🙏❤️
By the way your neck looks great 😊
I know it’s not a perfect solution but prolonged fasting during weight loss can help reduce some of the excess skin as well
Autophagy will reduce the excess skin over time. It depends on how much excess skin a person has. It could take up to several years of consistent autophagy for your body to clean up the trash.
@@patrickh709 yes exactly
Thank you.
I'm a lot skinnier in my mind.
😂
Try Pilates, its a gentle way to tighten and tone, while helping make your joints supple.
I love your honesty. Thank you for sharing your knowledge 😅
Omg Doc, ur SO inspiring! Love ur NO BS talk 🎉
I love your honesty Dr Cywes.
Thank you Dr. Cywes this has been a valuable video!
What an amazing forthright expose on loose skin. Greatly appreciate the advice.
Wow what a great person you are, love the self love that you expressed!
The tummy tuck and liposuction I had done 3 years ago were the best gifts I gave myself.
It's a thing for sure...50 lbs for me and now I kinda look like a deflated balloon. Still look OK in clothes and I am clothed more often than not being past 60
Finalmente una persona autentica! ❤❤❤
Born to teach Dr. thank u 4 caring
I am sending this to a very special person in my life. Thank you so much.
I'm 47... my goal is long lasting good health and to look good in my clothes...
Great video _ covered every little thing !!!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
The three possibilities I can imagine are
A) The skin must shrink to conform.
I is skinny, because of how I grew up & 🚴♀️ I listen to keep straight about it & not join that fight ! but it's nice to listen 🎶 to, y I tuned in & u gentle with your voice & such ! win win 💝
Another Great Video on Helping Others Whom Struggle with Their Health Dr. Cywes, too Bad we can’t add pics here, because I’ve lost 70 lbs thanks to you and at 58 years old I’m proud of the results🥩🥓👊🏻👍🏻 Thank You Doc Thank You!!!!!
Post the pics on Instagram, it would help a lot of people.
But you could say if you have excess skin.
I have to say I think you're beautiful.....inside and out! I see why your wife feels the same (and obviously more) I appreciate this information so much! Thank you!
You look great just the way you are. Congratulations on your weight loss. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much for putting everything into perspective. Your wisdom helped me more than you know!
Tellin’ it like it is, regarding skin creams.
Dr Cywes thanks for keeping it real. Love your videos
So good! Thank you for your humbleness and honesty...
Here me out:
In my experience, a 3 week water fast didnt produce loose skin, i only supplemented with about 500 mg potassium in gel caps.
@@cherryl225 Thanks for the feedback.
And she is a very beautiful lady🤗🌹
I agree! Doc your handsome! Trolls are jealous of your wisdom and good looks. We dont listen to them. Just typed letters….we disregard them as soon as it’s read.
So grateful for people like you.
Blessings from TX
Your neck looks fine to me. Thank you for the education.

Really good information!! Thank you!!!
Just subscribed!! Thank you for the honesty and being real!❤
Thanks for this amazing info! I've seen some videos to reduce sagging excess skin, but did not really think that would work!! I really appreciate your encouragement!! ❤🤗🙏🙏
Thank you for this discussion.
What do you think of Autophagy Fasting to get rid of extra skin instead of surgery?
Should look at IDM. They say none of their patients go to surgery because of the fasting
