Today is the 105th anniversary of the armistice signed between Germany and the Entente, ending first World War, so happy Armistice, Veterans, or Remembrance Day and lets hope the diplomats dream of peace can one day actually come. The armistice eventually resulted in the Paris Peace Conference, which saw the creation of many new European states, and the end of the German and Austrian empires. Many today look back and say the Treaties of Versailles and Trianon wer far too harsh, so I decided to get 50 people from my discord, linked in description, assigned as diplomats for every nation involved, including all the independence movements to see how we would have reshaped Europe.

Greece, Belarus, Serbia and India are probably the biggest winners. Britain gets honorable mention for acquiring so many new important port cities, but the loss of India outweighed all of their gains by a wide margin. Not to mention how India successfully defeating the Empire might have triggered other nationalist uprisings down the line. That move alone probably shaved 10-15 years off of the life-span of the British Empire.
Aside from the territorial losses, it sounds like Germany got off with basically a slap on the wrist. No armament restrictions, no reparations, just the cession of land to France and Austria and the loss of their rather meager colonial possessions in Africa. I'd bet the Hohenzollerns wouldn't have too much trouble holding onto power in this scenario, since they probably wouldn't have the same kind of extreme economic depression that the Weimar Republic had to contend with in the '20s. The Kaiserreich has lost the majority of its navy, but has maintained the majority of its population and industry and hasn't been disarmed at all. I think it was an interesting play by Britain to lean so hard into more lenient terms for Germany, probably with the goal of being able to counter the French on the Continent in anticipation of conflict with them in the future. Interestingly, I also heard no mention of Tsingtao, Kaiser-Wilhelmsland or Germany's other Pacific holdings. Did everyone just forget about them, or was Germany allowed to keep it's Asiatic colonies?
And as an aside, I find it hilarious and completely justified how basically everyone said "Yeah, screw the Bolsheviks" and just started stripping land away from them 😂

    • @solo_leo4454
      @solo_leo4454 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

UK player here, the odds were super stacked against the Indians but the mechanic allowed them to win the war somehow they got super lucky. Also, the British empire in this scenario would likely live longer I believe, or maintain a strong maritime presence, as I secured every choke point of the Mediterranean, and off screen I was intending to form some imperial federation kind of thing. I also co owned Cyprus with Greece in exchange for the Gallipoli treaty port. Persia will be good for resources, and I don’t have to worry about middle eastern colonies as much. Although you are probably right, it would inspire other rebellions, India itself tho will be unstable with the Muslim minorities and other ethnicities. Also we didn’t really do armaments and reparations just land exchange

An important thing about the end of WW1 for Poland, was that with the exception of Danzig being semi-independent and Pomerania going to them, the rest of territorial changes happened not because of Versailles, but because of one of the following:
    a) Wars with Ukraine, Lithuania and Soviets in the east
    b) A number of small scale military conflicts between Polish freedom fighters and Germany
    c) The Polish people of Russia and Austro-Hungary self-organising into a country (Polish people of Germany are under the "b" cathegory)
Treaty of Versailles only served to legitimise and set in stone changes that happened mostly on their own.
P.S: Man, Greek viewer was just a greedy larper. Historically accurate I guess.

    • @starhalv2427
      @starhalv2427 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

Alright, here's what'd most likely happen if that version of Versailles was executed:
      - The Polish uprising in Greater Poland, Silesia, and since in this version of events Poland wasn't given it peacefully Galicia and Pomerania as well. These areas were already full of military conflict at the end of our war, but here with Polish army not tied up fighting the Soviets and Germans being the ones supported by Versailles, I predict a full scale Polish-German war by 1920.
      - There is no way, absolutely 0 chance Greece can hold the territories they got in this deal. In this reality they've pretty much become a muslim majority population, and I predict they'll implode due to Turkish separatist movement even without Turkish military invasion. They're also likely to be invaded by Bulgaria. Also, if they feel too confident in their national might due to such great territorial gains, they might start a war with Serbia over Northern Macedonia.
      - Small thing, but I'm 95% sure there's gonna be an Albanian uprising against Italy by 1925. Since the year 1900 they had over 3 uprisings against Ottomans despite being majority muslims, ain't no way they'll accept Italian rule without a fight.
      - Romania is definitely gonna be dissatisfied and continue the war against Austria-Hungary, much like in history they fought against Hungary over Transylvania. The crucial difference is that this time they hold Bulgarian and Ukrainian territories, so I predict that Austro-Hungary, Ukraine and Bulgaria will join together in a war against them.
      - Speaking of Austria-Hungary, Czechs and Slovaks are very unlikely to accept to stay in this country, as they were already rising up as a nation by the time Versailles was made. Considering that, maybe with Romanian and Czechs and Slovaks and Polish working together they'll lead to Austro-Hungarian collapse.
      - Israel will fall. Straight up.
      - Lithuania/Belarus/Whatever monstrocity was created here controls territories with huge minority populations, especially Polish minority- who'd actually be the second or third biggest ethnicity in that country. Historically there was a conflict between Poland and Lithuania over the city of Vilno itself. Not to mention Estonian and Latvian minority also unlikely to accept that kinda deal. My prediction is that both Poland and Soviets will refuse to recognise that state's very existence, and with high popularity that Soviets had in these territories, especially in Latvia and Belarus, I don't see them surviving.
      - Israel will not survive a year of existing, unless it renames itself to "Palestine" and adopts Islam as official religion. Until late 1920's AT LEAST there weren't nearly enought Jews in the area compared to how many Arabs there were to constitute a realistic formation of their country.
There are tons of examples like those above, but I focused on areas I have enough knowledge about to give an informed opinion.

5:45 (If I were the Croatian representative): Yes, Italians do live on the Istrian and Dalmatian coasts. Venice did at one time control these territories, but ethnically, the two are drastically different. According to the Austro-Hungarian census of 1910, Italians are a relative majority of 356,000, or 40%, of the population of the Austrian Littoral, most of whom live along the Adriatic coast. In Dalmatia, however, of its 635,000 people, only 18,000 identify as Italian. Zadar, the capital of the Dalmatian kingdom and the city with the most ethnic Italians, were only shown to represent about 18.6% of its population. If we, the representatives here today, were to give the Dalmatian coast to Italy, it would only heighten ethnic tensions in the region and possibly bring about another ethnic conflict in the Balkans. Let this meeting remind ourselves that the Habsburg Empire, under its domain over numerous ethnic and linguistically separate territories, became both one of the main contributing factors to its downfall and what ultimately started the Great War. What we believe would be in the best interest of the Croatian and Italian peoples would be to draw Istria under ethnic lines and give their respective territory to the nations of their proper tongue, ceding the Italian-majority city of Fiume to Italy and giving the territory once belonging to the Kingdom of Dalmatia to the Croatian state.

So the idea of this project is really really good and i love it. The only issue for me is cleary those players just love alternate history but have 0 geopolitical knowledge, like the british just act as the all powerfull mediator in every theatre with 0 opposition of other great power.
And it's a bit sad that the political situation of the state does nothing for the negotiations. Like austria Hungary was a crumbling state way before 1918 and i really think not a single political figure in any old hasburgian land would say that they are good at multi ethnic empire. And the Kayser just couldnt stay in power with spartakyst uprising in Germany.
And finaly i dont understant how the wars during négociations would happend that easily and end up in thoses results. Like IRL Turkey fought and won against a fairer treaty against Greece, Britain and France. And you want me to belive they got crush instant against just Britain and greece ? Wile Britain would also be involved in the russian civil War ?

Turkey and Bulgaria got unreasonably harsh peace treaties as it will turn out that almost half of their populations lives outside than inside of their respective countries.
Also Italians were around 5% of dalamtian population at highest and not higher than 20% in cities, and in Istra Italians were never over 50% of population, and in 1900. were just ⅓ of total Istrian population. And on theme about Zadar (Zara), Rijeka (Fiume), Pula (Pola) and Trst (Trieste) Italians there made up maybe a little above 50% but never were absolute majority expecially cities like Trst and Rijeka who were multicultural and never had any majority.

This might actually secure future peace for France and Britain. Looks like the main points of future wars will be Eastern Europe (Soviet Russia will aggressively fight to reclaim lands), the Balkans (Croatia will possibly join Serbia or not, Bulgaria will likely be fully partitioned, many Bulgarian rebellions against the Byzantines will occur, wait, that sounds familiar), and Anatolia (the Turks outnumber the Greeks so badly, that they will be sure to rebel many times, especially with support from the still independent Turkey). Byzantium will unquestionably be dismantled again by Turkey, but may retain Constantinople.
Russia will be the next major aggressor in Europe.

I love that "we have solved the Middle East" was an UNCONTESTED statement.
What confused me was the entrenchment of the German & Austrian monarchies. Didn't both of those dissolve BEFORE the end of the war?

*Britain:* Looking for backs to put knives into.
*Germany:* Ranting about ethnic germans belonging in a german nation, and playing the victim.
*Russia:* Claims to be protecting russian-speakers in what is definately not an invasion.
*Italy:* Tries to recreate the Roman Empire.
    *Greece:* Recreates the Roman Empire.
*Austria:* Recreates the Holy Roman Empire.
*America:* Helps to make a mess of things, proudly declares "mission accomplished" and buggers off to let the natives deal with the consequences.
Why does this all seem so familiar?

Greece with 5k casualties becoming the Roman Empire while Italy with 1 million loses gets only South Tyrol, Istria and half of Albania, that is wild, fair play to Britain
