When he said one’s real and one’s fake between brush guards and grill guards…. I felt that from personal experience. Had a steelcraft “grill guard” that was $600 and it folded like a piece of paper when I hit a cow elk with it. Still helped with overall impact and was able to drive my truck away but all I can say is spend the extra $400-$500 and buy a real grill guard. Westin or Ranch Hand.
Boy, I'm not surprised it folded on ya. An elk ain't no joke, period. I'd trust a good quality grill guard for white tail deer, but something larger like an elk or even a mule deer and I'd opt for a full on bumper replacement if you can. Honestly, a bumper replacement with a grille guard is a much better investment, period, if you can swing it.
I am currently saving up for a luverne prowler max for my f250. I drive the truck 2 hours every day through heavy deer country. Ive hit or been hit by 4 in the past ten years. Not letting this truck get wrecked. Any thoughts on this gaurd?
Discuss aerodynamics and MPG. Why can’t pickup trucks have the design, semi tractor’s use; like the EX Guard XG which sustains no damage from deer collisions?
Grill guards are useless wastes of money. We started out with a Ranch Hand GG, and in a minor rear-end accident with a much smaller/lighter vehicle... the GG completely folded up, crushing the hood, fender, grill, and cooling components behind it. This was due, not to the weakness of the steel guard, but the way it's mounted to the truck, via brackets bolted around the bumper. In contrast, a full bumper replacement is mounted to the frame itself. Both look good, but only one actually provides actual protection, and will (in most cases) allow you to drive away from the scene of an accident.

Not really. I have hit accidentally 3 deer with my so called fake grille guard and the truck still looks the same. No damage. I also have Ali-Arc bumpers on my Kenworth and other pickup truck and they also have hit deer with no damage. The Ali-Arc bumpers are built much heavier so I am sure they can take a bigger impact. The so called fake guard even launched a deer over a fence so it was a good impact but still no damage. It is US made and not overseas tho. If one does get too heavy of a guard and hits something too hard, it can damage the truck frame and other components is something to think about.

The fact I picked up a westin Hdx for $100 bucks and that's the one you recommend makes me feel good😂
