Mykal Kilgore is liquid silk! When he throws out the ultra-high note and lets it float away like it was nothing...gorgeous! And wow, I know they always have so much fun with it, but you gotta give them props for their acting chops too! I mean their musical chops are a given despite the fact they just keep getting better and better as they've moved through their vocal careers, but damn, they are just FIRE on every level! Geoff's low notes are the fullest and most powerful of any bass out there...I dare anyone to prove otherwise! And he "thinks" he's a baritone!😂🤣
For anyone who just thinks of Geoff as "the nice guy who sings bass", this and a few other VoicePlay videos (Oogie Boogie's song, Hellfire, Moana medley, Little Mermaid medley, etc.) shows that he can be a p-r-e-t-t-y effective villain, too!
Mykal was a founding member along with Layne and Scott. He’s broadway now. He sang on just sing. They’ve said they have another one with him coming out soon. To showcase his range
Actually the *original* lineup was Layne, Geoff, Earl and Mykal. A barbershop quartet named 4 The Love. When they added Scott as beatboxer, they became 4:2:Five. Then there were various people who came and went before they renamed themselves to VoicePlay in 2012.
For a 'dragon', Geoff is surprisingly leonine. All the snarls, claw hands and 'bared teeth'! I swear he seems to have actual fangs, despite the fact there aren't any visible here. Virtual fangs? It's in the way he shows his teeth. Obviously, they sounded perfect. We even got a bit of growl from Geoff. And then Cesar did a great job as Ed (the dim one of the hyenas) Mykal's voice! Those runs were sublime. He gave his hyena a kind of 'Diva' vibe. And Eli was suitably threatening. Will I ever get used to the idea that such a sweet guy portray menacing so well? Lastly, I cannot see how Layne could do those beats and not hyperventilate. Pretty quick with a lot of actual hits.
I thought it was funny how Ed was supposed to be the dumb one here, but out of the three, he was the only one who at least was aware he did not understand the plan, whereas the other two thought they knew, but were wrong because they thought there would be no king. So he was just as smart as them here, even though I know in the movie he is the "dumb one." The nose boop reaction of Cesar was so adorable I threw up glitter and old VP CDs. 🎉❤The la la la la la la was my fav part. And I think I laughed up my soul. Am I soulless now. If so, I shall join their army of miscreants and rule under the Sexy Dragon Lion Man King thing. Yeah. 😊
I swear they waited with this one until Geoff's lion's mane was fully developed. I've seen it several times since it came out and I love it every time. Scar's song has always been one of my favourites, but this version is even better.
Mykal is pronounced Michael. Mykal was a founding member with Geoff, Layne and Earl back in 1997 when they were in high school. They were a barbershop quartet named "4thelove". And Jeremy Irons, who was the voice of Scar, ruined his voice in this song and after the line “you won’t get a sniff out of me” another actor had to come in and finish the song. (The actor’s name was Jim Cummings, who was doing Ed, the dim hyena played here by Cesar. I looked this part up😊.)
