Just a few things to point out; as far as I am aware, all TE21's (and TF's) had the ZF five speed box, and not mentioned was the fact that they all have power steering also, so parking and manouvering them at slow speeds doesn't need the physique of a gorilla. Also TE's were produced through at least 1966. Understated and elegant design.
Lovely video Fuzz, they are superb cars indeed, backed up by the knowing that you have the great spares and restoration services still of the Red Triangle Company, which is good as they can be a nightmare to restore.
When I was in my teens (60 years ago) in a small coastal town in Scotland there was a family nearby who had the most exquisite and expensive taste in cars - God alone knows where they got that much money where we were (Glasgow stockbroker maybe?) but the father drove one of these - ice blue with a cream leather interior, just beautiful. Just to put the cherry on the cake, his wife had a Lancia Fulvia…
Wonderful. I imagine to drive this from Livorno - slowly and relaxed - along the coast to Port Grimaud. Only small private hotels with a view on the Mediterranean... Ok, now we wake up. 😎
A true gentleman's carriage . And to think Douglas Bader owned one ! Well Fuzz , if l win big time the cars yours but l said the same about that beautiful 2.5pi saloon.
I remember as a little boy in Texas in the mid sixties being fascinated by cars such as these in the many British TV series we were importing, so exotic that they never came over here. This Alvis marque was particularly exotic to me. One of the most beautiful IP's ever installed on an automobile.
This car seems to have more elegance in outside appearance than the 'Chinese eyed' Bentleys and without their obesity, either. Like the contemporary Bristol, these just scream 'UK'.
There are a number of good Alvis TD21 and TE21s for sale at good prices, at present, as classic car prices have fallen in the last three years. Key thing is to check bodywork integrity, as the steel on ash frame can be tricky. Engines are pretty robust, but listen out for small or large end rattles. Rebuild will cost ££££. 'Clunks' on driving off or stopping can be diff or wire wheel splines. But "Go for it". These classy cars have some of the best spares availability from Red Triangle (Alvis Car Company), Chris Prince and other suppliers. Parts availability is better than many modern cars: I know through experience of maintaining my own TD21.
It didn't really come out strongly on this video, but the Alvis 3 litre six just about pips all else on sound. There are other videos on YT, one of them of a TE or TF moving out of a side road in suburbia sounding like pure pedigree high class.
A really lovely car, but it would be even better with the TD21 single lights, mine had the auto box, which is no where near as nice as this manual ZF. Chris B.
Question: revisiting this video I see that this magnificent example doesn't have full climate control. Is it possible to mount a modern air conditioning system, say Vintage Air, to one of these. It looks like there might be room under the bonnet.
Why? Almost all British sports cars of the sixties could be had with wire wheels, either as a factory option or bought separately after purchase. Cars like the MGB, Jaguar E-Typ, even the Mk II Jaguar, Aston Martin and so on. The last "new" car I know that was fitted with wire wheels was the Aston Martin DBS in 1969, but when Aston Martin went on with the V8 they changed to steel wheels because the wire wheels couldn't handle the torque of the V8.
@@milosbrajkovic9855 What? Most wire wheels I've ever heard of has been chromed. Perhaps matte gray for cheaper cars? I've heard of wire wheels been painted black or green or dark red.
@@ingvarhallstrom2306 Matte gray for the sake of good taste. Chromed ar flashy, more American taste. Please try to find some old photos or movies, and you will see. Sorry, my English is so clamsy.
I am a Brit. Of same vintage as the car. I remember all this from my youth. Also had girlfriend who’s dad drove an Alvis. Painted wire wheels on cheap MGs and Triumphs. Chrome on ETypes , Aston’s and other higher end cars. Don’t get snobby about chrome wire wheels please- they were EOM
I am currently working on a TD 21 and if I had known what an engineering mess these things are I would have never gone near it.English engineering at its absoulute worst. Horrible car to work on.
One of the best looking cars ever. I need tio own one.😅😅
This fine vehicle has PRESENCE!
beautiful cars............love the shape of them.
Have a TD21 in the garage great car
I would love to have this car in real life
Understated luxury.
An elegant car waiting for a good run in the Scottish highlands.😊

Beautiful majestic machine, built in motor city, my city

What a great car ,always wanted one ,but never able to afford one

A beautifull car, that reminds me of the Facel Vega - altough with Alvis ADN :)
Beautiful Lady.
The only two car brands I ever lusted after…..Alvis and Bristol…..40’s, 50’s and 60’s only……🇬🇧

Do that blue Maserati in the back, lovely thing, a Shamal or something?
Aston Martins look shabby by comparison….and they’re gorgeous!

Graber designed. Swiss I think
Alvis for the king's highway the TF was the last in 1967 we made now more.
1957 Humber Hawk tail lamps
Thank you! It was driving me nuts trying to place them.
It looks a bit like a Facel Vega.
Looks a bit like a Bristol
You are right! The british rivals of Alvis had been (as often said)not Aston,Jaguar or Bentley, but Bristol and Jensen !

what’s the problem … no leaky old cast iron V8 … no H girder chassis … no flared wings out the back … poor poor ‘merikun
Really lose that music
