Senecaville Lake on Hobie Lynx - First Kayk Bass Fishing Tournament on the Lynx - Amazing kayak!

  • I borrowed the amazing Hobie Lynx from Strictly Sail & Kayak in Cincinnati, Ohio, for a weekend of bass tournaments, and this was my first stop: Senecaville Lake with the Buckeye Kayak Fishing Trail. For the few years I have been kayak bass fishing, it has always been from an Old Town Loon 106, a sit-in paddle kayak with no electronics, so this was a big deal for me, and I was really excited to see how it changed my fishing game, and how the Lynx handled bigger water. Brian Tacy, from Strictly Sail, had taken me for a demo on a tiny lake a couple days before this (see video on my GirlGoneFishing channel!), so I had a little practice on the Lynx, but for this tournament he went above and beyond in rigging it up for fishing (see rigging video on my GirlGoneFishing channel!), and I really wanted to get it out in the waviest conditions I could find to see how the Lynx handled. By the end of the tournament, I was completely in love with the Lynx, had total faith in the stability, handling, and comfort! My favorite part of the video is at the end when I am standing up fishing, chatting over my shoulder with a buddy, and a wake hits the boat broadside, I don't even stop talking or react, just keep fishing and chatting as the Lynx smoothly handles the waves. People have been asking me if water comes over the surface or through the scupper holes, and I never saw that happening, didn't notice anything wet on the kayak, never saw a wave coming over the boat, and I tried to get in the waviest conditions I could find. But my next video from the second day of my Lynx weekend is from Brookville (Indiana) with Cincinnati Kayak Fishing, and that lake was rocking between the pleasure boats and the wind, so that should be an even better demonstration of the Lynx in rougher water! That video should be up next week on my GirlGoneFishing channel. Thanks so much to Strictly Sail & Kayak for the demo, and for Brian for rigging it up so perfectly for me! Strictly Sail is our main trail sponsor for both Cincinnati Kayak Fishing and Buckeye Kayak Fishing, they do so much to support the kayak angling community, they have amazing service, nice selection of kayaks (Hobie, Old Town, NuCanoe, FeelFree, 3Waters) new and used, and sailboats! I had fun. Thanks. I fished with my grandfather at his "secret spot" in Wellton, Arizona. I never acquired the interest that my family did, and don't eat fish as a rule, but fishing videos seem to allow me to be there, with no commitment.

      @@GirlGoneFishing It is a good lake but that is the one downfall. People travel from all over so if it's even halfway decent out, the lake is a mad house. I work seconds so I usually just catfish or bowfish it late at night. Whitewater lake is a good one for kayak fishing on the north end of brookville lake in Liberty. It's super peaceful and there usually isn't many people since it's electric motor only. Only downside to that lake is it's relatively small and most of it is 30 feet or shallower. All this heat has made it really difficult to catch much out of it. My fish finder was reading 88 degrees across pretty much the entire lake yesterday.

      I just read we are supposed to have warm weather through Thanksgiving...after the tournament trails end in mid-October, I plan on going back to a lot of these lakes and enjoying some more peaceful fall fishing!

    I can imagine having the graph for the first time. Don't know if I would get any fishing done. lol. Be like a kid with a new toy running around looking at all the things I never saw before. Great catch at the last there, both on the rod and in the net. Awesome vid, and that yak looks like a great tool.

      I really love the Lynx! It is like it was made just for me! I have read the fish finder some in Scott’s boat, but I need a lot of practice in interpreting those dots! And I can’t wait to start recording waypoints!

    Seeing that small perch u caught...I would have been reaching for my perch colored Huddleston swimbait!! I'm drooling to get my big swimbait rod out now, thx to that little perch 🤤

      🤣 He was a bite-sized little fish! I’ve never gotten into throwing the big swimbaits, but I think that is because when I tried then out in California, I only had flimsy spinning rods, so it was really kind of hard work to try and throw those. I should revisit now that I have better rods.

    Looks like a good kayak for a small lake or a flats boat. But need something to handle the waves of the Chesapeake Bay and its tidal tributaries and maybe off shore. A bit on the high side price wise $2699.

      Wait 'til you see the video I'm posting on Friday from Brookville. It wasn't Chesapeake waves, but it was kind of rocking by the end of the tournament! It is new technology, and that costs, but as they put out new generations of it, you should be able to pick up used ones for less!

    OK. Before I run to Strictly Sail and buy another boat from them, do you work for Hobie or SS? You do a great job, and I want the Lynx so freakin' bad, I've stopped looking at others. This is the 3rd video I've seen with you and that boat/kayak/pedal-paddle board. Thanks!!

      I was lucky enough to be voted on the Strictly Sail & Kayak fishing team a couple of months ago, so they are "sponsoring" me by letting me use their demo Lynx. But I don't work for them or for Hobie, although if Hobie wants to hire me to drive around the country fishing on the Lynx, I'm down for that! 🤣 Before the Lynx, I had been fishing tournaments for 2 years from my little Old Town Loon (a sit-in paddle kayak with no electronics). This Lynx has made such a huge difference in being able to find fish and stay on the spots to catch them, the ability to cover water faster, being able to stand up (both for a fishing advantage and to stretch out my back!), and best of all is lifting the feather-weight 41 pounds up on my car at the end of an exhausting day of fishing. So my enthusiasm for the Lynx is genuine, it has been a big game changer in my fishing life!

      This past weekend, I fished 2 KBF tournaments on Lake Erie/Erie Harbors on the Lynx, and we had the waviest conditions I've had it in, and it was a rockstar! At the end of the weekend, some people were saying they felt uncomfortable out there in their kayaks with the big boat wakes, and I honestly hadn't even noticed! I think maybe because it is built a little like a surf board, the Lynx just rides the waves, never making me feel "tippy" or out of balance at all. On Sunday, I was even standing up in those wakes, and still felt rock solid, even fighting a fish standing up in big wakes. I can't speak to how it feels if you are coming from something big and solid like a Hobie PA, but it is such a HUGE difference from what I am used to paddling, that this is a major game changer for my fishing "career"!

    I love your gear set up. How do you like the kayak? Don't seem it is good for fishing.

    • @GirlGoneFishing
      @GirlGoneFishing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I love it! It was perfect for everything even on my first day fishing with it, but I do need to work on where to measure the fish... I did it on my lap like I am used to in my sit-in kayak, and it was a little awkward. I think using a paddle holder to secure the net to the board to hold the fish while getting prepared would be a good solution...has to be better than holding it with my foot! 🤣 But everything else was awesome! The video I am working on editing now (from my second day fishing with it) actually has more fish in it, and bigger waves, so it should be a better demonstration of the capabilities of the Lynx!

    Is there a way to fish these tournaments without a facebook or social media account? From what I've been finding they seem to rely on facebook for organizing.

    • @GirlGoneFishing
      @GirlGoneFishing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have to have a TourneyX account, that the app you submit the fish to for judging. Social media is handy for organizing, but if you had someone who would read you the posts and let you know the info and the tourney ID when it is released, you could do it. Doable but not convenient.
